DIY stool for the garage. Homemade chairs for the garage. A workbench is a necessary product in every garage. We decide on the storage of tools. Installation of a metal structure

When it comes to garage furniture, this means various racks, bedside tables, shelving, chairs, workbenches, which allow you to neatly and in perfect order store working tools. In addition, they are used for minor repairs. Today you will learn how to make a chair for the garage with your own hands, and get acquainted with several more interesting ideas. If you manage to turn these ideas into reality, then all the car enthusiasts you know will envy you. In this article we will provide not only detailed master classes, but also useful tips, without which you cannot complete such work.

How to make a garage chair with your own hands?

Carpentry practice, of course, is better to start with something simple, gradually moving on to more complex structures. For example, you can make a garage chair with your own hands, only it will not be an ordinary stool, but something more like a stepladder, which you cannot do without in this room.

Prepare for work:

  • Wood.
  • Thick paper for the template.
  • Chipboard sheets.
  • Chipboard scraps.
  • Pencil.
  • Buttons.
  • Electric jigsaw.
  • Grinding machine.
  • Melamine, furniture edge.
  • Stiffening ribs.
  • Racks.
  • Seat.
  • Clamps.
  • Piano loop.
  • Confirmations.
  • Plugs for confirmations.

Carry out all the work following this detailed diagram:

  1. Use to design a special computer program or select a suitable step stool design on the Internet. Make out thick paper side rack templates.
  2. Select chipboard scraps so that they fit all available templates. Carefully pin the templates to the chipboard using thumbtacks, then trace with a pencil.
  3. Cut out the parts with a jigsaw and sand the ends using a machine. Cut out the remaining parts from chipboard according to the design. Cover the prepared elements with furniture or melamine edge.
  4. First, assemble the smaller part of the chair that will not move. Screw the stiffeners to the step. Then step to one of the sidewalls so that it is clearly in the middle of the rack. Screw on the second post and install a stiffener for the seat. Mount the seat so that its edge coincides with the edges of the posts.
  5. Now you need to assemble the second part of the stepladder. It will turn over, so the middle step is mounted upside down. Screw the stiffening rib for the upper step, then screw it itself.
  6. At the final stage, screw the seat. Install both parts to form a stepladder, aligning the ends of the seat, securing with clamps. Screw on the piano hinge. Install the plugs.

This wonderful, and most importantly, functional chair is ready, it will fold out in two positions, which is very convenient for the garage.

How to make your own garage cabinet?

It will be a little more difficult to make a garage cabinet with your own hands, but you will get a convenient, combined design that will save useful space and truly decorate this room.

Important! This solution is most appropriate for large garages, the shelves of which are always filled with various tools and parts. Such a cabinet can be equipped with drawers and shelves for storing all kinds of objects and things.

We will use again finished project, but you can change the dimensions of the parts, depending on specific conditions and your own requests. First, perform the calculation, trying to do everything as clearly as possible, so that in the future you do not have to redo all the work. Number each part on the diagram and indicate all dimensions.

Important! Label the parts as you make them to make it easier to assemble the entire structure later.

Prepare the following elements from 38 mm thick wood slabs:

  • Base cover.
  • The side wall of the cabinet.
  • Three front walls of the base.
  • Five base partitions.
  • Seven risers.
  • Eleven steps.
  • Seven shelves.
  • Two front panels for drawers.
  • Five shields of a stepped wall.

From the same 19 mm thick plate, make the following parts:

  • Four front and back walls of the box.
  • Four side walls of the box.
  • Two bottoms for drawers.

From a beam with a cross section of 25 by 25 mm, do the following:

  • Shelf support.
  • Railing.

For cutting and assembly, prepare:

  • Electric circular saw.
  • Screws.
  • Furniture casters.
  • Dowels.

Now that you already know all the dimensions, and you know exactly how many parts you will need, you can go to the store for materials and get to work.

Make a cabinet according to these instructions:

  • Mark all workpieces. Make a cut on them. Cut out the blanks and check their conformity required sizes and rectangularity. Sand the cut edges.
  • First of all, assemble the base in the form of a box-shaped structure, the length of which can vary, depending on your desire and certain conditions.
  • Screw the partition base to the lid, the width of the cells for the drawers should be 60 cm.
  • Separately assemble from the shields, then glue the stepped wall. While the glue dries, leave the walls secured with straps. Then place the structure close to the wall so that it serves as a base.

Important! It is better to glue onto a smooth fugue of five pieces.

  • Drill holes for screws according to the diagram.
  • Mark the locations of the shelf holders on the wall. Attach them to the wall with screws and dowels. Install the same shelf holders on the back side of the stepped wall.
  • Assemble from steps and risers flight of stairs. At the same time, attach each step to the riser with several screws.
  • So, you have assembled the base, the stepped wall, and the flight of stairs separately; all that remains is to open up all the parts with varnish. But first, sand all the parts and components, then cover them with two layers of acrylic varnish.
  • Sequentially fasten the parts and assemblies with screws. Install the steps. Place a stepped wall on the base, secure it with the upper and lower steps. Attach the side wall, top platform and step wall to the base cover.
  • Attach the shelves to the side wall, then from the inside to the stepped wall. Install the shelves on shelf support bars. Replace the staircase and attach it to the tread and side walls.
  • From below, additionally fasten the shelves with the flight steps using metal strips with screws. Sink them into the grooves to make them invisible. Install the remaining steps, the front walls of the base, and the bottom step.
  • Install the railings and drawers, and each of them must consist of identical walls connected to each other with screws.
  • Screw the bottom to the box, then furniture casters to it so that the boxes can move.
  • Screw the front panel with the handle from the inside of the drawer to the front wall. Insert ready-made boxes into the wall.

How to build a homemade workbench for the garage?

Do-it-yourself garage furniture is made in a wide variety of ways, because here car enthusiasts not only store various tools, but also perform minor repairs. A work table or workbench is an essential item for the garage.

To assemble the workbench, purchase all the materials according to the list:

  • For the cover of the product, boards with a width of at least 40 mm.
  • Beam for making legs with a section of 70 by 100 mm.
  • Beam for crossbars 50 by 100 mm.
  • Nails.
  • Self-tapping screws.

Build as follows:

  1. Make a frame with four legs.
  2. Attach a cover made of carefully planed boards to the structure on top. Its edges should extend slightly beyond the frame.
  3. Install longitudinal horizontal jumpers at a height of 50 cm from the floor to make the workbench more stable.
  4. Place a shelf on them to store materials and tools.
  5. On the tabletop, install a hinged stop, a special recess with a wedge, and drill holes with pegs so that the material is securely held during cross-cutting.
  6. Along back wall attach a side so that the parts do not roll onto the floor during work.
  7. Additionally, attach a bench vice for clamping while processing parts in a vertical and horizontal position.
  8. We have given examples of the most useful pieces of garage furniture that you can make yourself. At the same time, you do not need to spend a lot of money on purchasing materials and tools, because many suitable parts are already at hand in the garage.

A garage is more than just a place to park a car. It is also a workshop, a place of relaxation, and a club of interests. Therefore, the arrangement of the garage should be convenient and thoughtful. You need to place a lot of things in a small area, and they should be convenient to use. Homemade products for the garage will help with this. What people don’t do with their own hands. From a simple shelf to a complex device. You can make all this yourself. But you need to know how. Several ideas for modernizing a garage and a plan for their implementation are in the article.

Homemade garage: ideas for arrangement

Setting up a garage is a long process. You won’t be able to do everything right away. You have to constantly modernize, change, and create something new. In this case, they mainly use homemade products for the garage. It requires less money and is also a pleasure - making the right thing out of garbage is worth a lot.

Tire and wheel storage

Every car owner is faced with the problem of storing out-of-season “shoes” for the car. Where to put the tires is a sore point. In general, the way tires are stored depends on whether they are mounted on rims or not.

So tires with rims can be hung or stored lying down - in the form of a stack, stacking them one on top of the other. To hang tires, you can use luggage straps, chains, or a metal cable with a diameter of 4 mm or more in a polyethylene sheath. Fasten the belts to the ceiling, wall, or beam located above.

Another affordable way- drive pins or hooks with a small bend radius into the wall. The distance between the hooks is slightly larger than the diameter of the tires. The length of the pins should be such that they do not protrude beyond the tire. You can fill them almost to the ceiling so that the wheels fit.

Tires without rims can only be stored standing up. Special shelves are made for them. They are usually welded from profiled pipes. 20*20 mm, maximum 30*30 mm. You can also use a corner. Round pipe It’s inconvenient to cook, but you can make cross members from it - the tires fit and hold up better in this case.

The width of the shelf is 4 times the width of the tire, plus a margin of 10-15 cm for some freedom. The height of the rear wall is slightly higher than the outer diameter of the wheel. The design is simple = from the side it resembles a right triangle. Having it, welding such a shelf will not be difficult.

A shelf for storing tires is an excellent homemade product for the garage. This is a factory option with a completely inhumane price tag. But you can borrow an idea - the crossbars can be rearranged depending on the size of the tires...you never know A shelf for tires in the garage with limited space. No tires - you can fold the shelf

Such shelves are usually hung on the wall. But the place must be chosen so that light does not fall on the rubber - this will deteriorate it. Not the most complicated DIY projects for the garage, but very useful.

Workplace

Probably the most large number DIY projects for the garage are related to the equipment of the workplace and tool storage systems. Moreover, this is not the only way to solve this problem. First of all, you need to decide where it will be located workplace. There are three options:

  • The entire width of the far wall. If the garage is of sufficient length and it is possible to “steal” about 1.5 meters. The advantage is that everything is located compactly, at hand, and does not interfere with walking along the car. The disadvantage of this solution is that you have to carry tools far away if work is carried out outdoors.

    Tabletop and many drawers. The main thing is to remember where everything is

  • Along one of long walls. This arrangement is chosen if the garage is wide but not long enough. It makes sense to place the table and workbench to the left of the entrance - on the driver’s side. But this is not critical. The disadvantage of this arrangement of the workplace in the garage is that you have to move with some caution, but it is more convenient to bring/take out tools outside.

    The main thing is to place the tools correctly

  • Occupying one of the corners. This intermediate option. Moreover, one of the sides can be made longer, the other shorter.

    Placing a desktop in the corner of the garage and placing a sofa next to it is not a solution to the problem. Occupying two adjacent sides is a great idea.

A table or workbench for a garage is made of boards and covered with plywood. Inexpensive, quite reliable. If there is welding machine and checking skills, you can weld a frame from a corner or profiled pipe. Again, it is better to sheathe it with moisture-resistant plywood. The result is a smooth, abrasion-resistant surface. You can, of course, use it, but the laminating layer is quickly damaged.

To prevent the space from wandering around, you can install shelves or make drawers under the countertop. Boxes are more convenient, but making them is still a hassle. It is quite possible to make shelves and put boxes made of plywood on them. Also suitable plastic boxes and baskets. But the walls must be thick.

There is, by the way useful idea— make a rack for storing tools from used canisters. Find ones that have the handle on top. Then everything is simple - one of the sides is cut out and in the future this canister is used as a box.

It’s not necessary to make a whole rack - it’s still difficult to remember where and what is located. But you can use the same principle to make drawers for shelves. By the way, you can stick inscriptions or pictures on the ends (with pictures, identification is faster). Such homemade projects for the garage bring satisfaction - create useful thing out of the trash - a pleasant feeling.

Tool storage

The most difficult task— organize tool storage in the garage. We need to make sure that everything is in order, but at the same time, is at hand and in sight. Moreover, closed boxes are suitable only for very organized people who always put the taken item back in its place. Otherwise, you will constantly rummage through drawers, forgetting where everything is. There are several ideas for convenient storage of small items and tools. These are very simple DIY projects for the garage.

A simple solution will help you quickly solve the problem. metal mesh. A reinforcing mesh made of 2 mm wire, a 10 cm cage, is suitable. Attach it to the wall, bite off some rods, bend them, make hooks, crossbars, etc. out of them. You can buy special hooks that are attached to the mesh (available in stores that sell commercial equipment); ordinary double-sided hooks, which can be bought or made from wire, are also suitable.

A grid on the wall is a way to quickly organize tool storage

It is convenient to store screwdrivers on a special shelf. Take a board or plywood, 10-15 mm thick. The board must be sanded well so that there are no splinters. Then drill holes in the plane different diameters in one or two rows. If the board is wide enough, you can make larger holes for chisels or even hammer handles. Clean all the chips again. Now we need to come up with a wall mount. You can use a regular bracket. Screwdrivers, chisels, and other similar materials are inserted into the holes. Convenient, fast, everything is in sight.

There are still useful homemade products for the garage, which allow you to organize storage hand tools. Pliers, pliers, wire cutters, etc. placing it conveniently is problematic. Can be hung on a net. It’s convenient to remove, but not to hang. But there is a simple solution - attach a narrow board and put the tool on it. To make it sit comfortably, grind down the board on one side. When cut, it should look like an isosceles triangle.

More simple idea for storing cordless tools, chargers and spare batteries for them. Make a shelf as in the photo above. In the lower part, cuts of different formats are made, and the upper parts are used as regular shelves. The idea is that everything is in one place, quickly taken out/installed in place. These garage DIY projects will make your workspace comfortable. It will be easy to maintain order.

Homemade carriers for the garage

Even with very good lighting in the garage itself or on the street during the day, under the bottom of the car, visibility is very low. To illuminate the front of the work, portable lamps are used. These are the simplest DIY projects for the garage. With them you can begin the epic of arranging and equipping your garage space.

In the very simple version This is a socket attached to a wire and can have a small shield with a hook attached to it. This is such a simple thing. The light bulbs used are ordinary ones - incandescent or housekeeper with a standard socket. Everything is not bad, except that these light bulbs break very often, you need to figure out how to hang them so that they shine in a specific place. In general, the design needs improvement. There are several modification options.

Unbreakable lamp socket

This lampshade is from plastic bottle perfectly protects the fragile bulb of an energy-saving lamp. You can also use an LED lamp, but an incandescent lamp will not work - it gets too hot. The design is simple - a cord with a plug and a cartridge at the end.

The main task is to find a plastic vessel with walls made of translucent milky plastic of medium thickness. Transparent will not work - it will not scatter light, too thin walls will not save the lamp from impacts. After you have found a suitable vessel, there is some small change left:

Everything is simple, but such a lamp allows you to brightly illuminate exactly the desired area, the rest of the space is filled with even light that does not hurt the eyes.

Carrying LED Recessed Light

The simplest and most common homemade products for the garage are portable lamps. Without them, it is inconvenient to work not only in, but even just on a workbench. You need a flat recessed LED lamp that can be turned on at 220 V. These models are called “tablets” because of their shape. You also need a cord with a plug and a piece of plastic window sill to install the lamp. The window sill piece should be larger in size than the lamp. You choose the specific sizes yourself. The next steps are:

That's it, the homemade carrier is ready. This option is for floor installation. The movable leg allows you to change the angle of inclination. To make it turn over less, you can attach a couple of weights inside the body (in its lower part).

Attach the carrying cord to the ceiling

Convenience comes from little things, and very simple homemade products for the garage help with this. For example, you can remove the cable from a portable lamp that always gets tangled under your feet. Carrying is usually done with a cheap cable. It's not the most flexible, it doesn't fold well, and its coils on the floor get under your feet. In general, it is inconvenient to use. You can protect yourself and carry it by hanging the cable from the ceiling. The solution is simple but very effective.

You can make this “suspension” to the ceiling for carrying with your own hands in an hour

  • Two anchors with a ring at the end.
  • Cable tie.
  • Clamp clamp.
  • Metal cable. The length depends on the size of the garage - it needs to be from one wall to the other.
  • Steel/plastic rings or steel wire and a piece of pipe to make these rings.
  • Carrying with a long cable - its length is approximately double the length of the garage.

The cable is stretched along the long side of the garage. It’s more convenient - not far from the “working” wall, where the workbench or other equipment is located. A little work:

In general, everything. You can use it. With such a device, the carrier can be carried to any end of the garage without the cable getting tangled or caught. Convenient, takes little time.

DIY garage compressor

A compressor is needed in any garage. And, by the way, this is not the most difficult homemade product for the garage. Low-power garage compressor for inflating tires and other small work You can make it yourself from scrap materials. For example, from a compressor from a refrigerator. For this you will need:

  • refrigerator compressor;
  • a sealed cylinder with thick walls (you can use a fire extinguisher flask or a small gas cylinder);
  • safety valve at 8 atm;
  • pressure gauge;
  • fitting;
  • oxygen hoses with couplings (select the length based on the size of your spare parts);
  • base for the compressor - a thick board or piece of plywood will do.

In order not to pump any nasty stuff into the tires, it is advisable to also install a filter to separate oils, dust and other contaminants. The diagram of a homemade compressor is shown in the photo.

The compressor must have a starting device. We plug it into the network, see which tube the air is sucked into, and mark it. You can put a car filter on it - clean air will be pumped in.

We assemble an oil separator receiver from a cylinder and a safety valve. To do this, we cut two fittings into the cylinder - for air inlet and outlet. We place a safety valve on the inlet hole and connect the compressor outlet to it using an oxygen hose.

We install another automobile oil filter at the outlet of the oil separator receiver to completely remove the oil. We connect the filter to the pressure gauge, and from it comes a hose, which is connected to the tire through the appropriate adapter.

Assembly is complete. But in order to carry this device conveniently, everything needs to be secured in some way. You can weld the frame to size, attach wheels and a handle for easy transportation. One of the compressor options for inflating wheels is described in the video. There is no receiver, but its functions are performed by an oil filter. You can do it this way, but with a receiver the design is more reliable.

Since the compressor in the refrigerator is low-power, it may take a long time to inflate the tires. You can make it more powerful by installing two compressors that will start simultaneously. Accordingly, the pressure will build up twice as fast. But such an installation requires a more robust security group. Such homemade products require a little more equipment, since the circuit is still more complicated.

Most men perceive the garage not only as a place where they park their car, but also as a corner where they can go about their business and get away from everyday problems. When arranging a garage, you need to place special emphasis on optimizing the space. It is important to ensure that everything is at hand necessary tools, and nothing interfered with movement around the garage. But garage furniture should still be chosen wisely; it should be comfortable, functional and durable. The garage owner should strive to create a cozy space as much as possible.

It all depends on the size of the garage - the more free space, the more useful devices can be stored. Most often, everything is calculated down to the millimeter, so there is no special room for imagination. There must be an overpass or inspection hole with which the vehicle will be inspected. Lighting should be not only general, but also local - fluorescent lamps are suitable as the main source; for local lighting, halogen lamps should be used.

One of the must-have devices for a car owner is a charger. IN winter time You can't do without a charger. To inflate tires you need to get a compressor. For pumping in garage conditions, portable compressors that can operate from a cigarette lighter are suitable. There is also a set of tools and accessories without which it is difficult to imagine car care:

  1. Complete set of wrenches. The set should include both standard (carob or end) and special ones, for example, for spark plugs;
  2. You need to bring a wrench, a drill, and a hammer. A car hose, a canister, a hydrometer, and a caliper will inevitably come in handy;
  3. A washbasin is required. Also in the garage there should be a set of taps and dies, fire extinguishing equipment;
  4. A broom will help keep the garage clean; in winter you will have to use a shovel.

No need to assemble it yourself wrenches, since there are already ready-made kits on sale, where everything is provided.

Varieties

Globally, all furniture used in garages is divided into two categories - racks with shelves and workbenches with tables. The choice of configuration of shelves and tables depends on what work will be carried out in the garage. Before you start arranging the interior of your garage, you need to answer a few questions for yourself:

  • What work will be carried out in the garage? What types of car breakdowns can you fix yourself?;
  • Which tool do you plan to use more often? What types of workbenches are needed?;
  • What is the burial level? groundwater? This is especially important if the garage is new and does not have an inspection hole.

Workbench and work area

Not always garage furniture also includes a workbench - it may be required to repair a car, and modern realities are such that many car owners send their car to a car service center at the first problem. This approach does not exclude the possibility of having a workbench in the garage. But you need to decide what type of workbench you need to install. Homemade workbenches have a classification:

  1. For metalworking, metalworking benches are used;
  2. Carpentry workbenches are used to work with wood;
  3. There are such universal machines for everyone repair work.

The difference between workbenches lies in the types of materials. All-metal workbenches are used for metalworking: they can withstand any load and do not rot under the influence of machine oil. If you understand that metal processing will not be carried out, it is worth installing a wooden workbench in the garage for carpentry work. Universal machines combine metal and wood covering. Regardless of what type of workbench is chosen, the desktop must have load-bearing structure, a thick wooden or metal frame, a bedside table with shelves and several shelves under the tabletop.

For normal work on the workbench, you need to equip high-quality lighting. A small stationary lamp will be enough.

Making your own garage workbench is reminiscent of the shelving technology, with differences in the number of shelves and their height. It is important to take into account a number of points:

  1. The height of the workbench should not exceed 1.1 meters, it is selected according to the person’s height. You need to try it individually, whatever suits you. The table configuration must withstand a minimum weight of 150 kg;
  2. To meet the rigidity requirement, you need to use boards with a thickness of at least 30 mm to make the table. If for objective reasons it is impossible to use such boards, you will need to additionally strengthen the table with stiffeners;
  3. No sharp edges are allowed on the table.

An alternative to a workbench with a workbench can be an old desk if it is not possible to make homemade tool furniture.

For storing things and tools

In practice, the installation of furniture for workshops and garages begins with the installation of racks and shelves. Since in our realities garages are also used for storing household rubbish, you need to provide enough free space for everything to fit. Preference should be given to shelving. They allow you to make the most of free space available in the garage. The space above the workbench can also be functional - you need to install shelves there.

Like a workbench, shelving can be assembled yourself. Both wood and metal profile pipe can be used as the main material. The sequence of work does not depend on the choice of material:

  1. Two standard stairs are being manufactured - they will be connected to each other. It is important to calculate the distance between the shelves correctly, and it is also important to calculate their number;
  2. Then the stairs are connected in such a way as to form a bookcase. To properly join the shelves, you must first align the stairs at the top and bottom;
  3. Plywood or boards can be used as flooring for the shelves of the rack.

Garage shelving can be floor or wall mounted. Floor shelving has a base and can support a lot of weight. Wall racks are more preferable for storing small tools and accessories. They can be made not deep. A wall-mounted rack with horizontal slats should be used when the structure is planned to be installed on the entire wall. Vertical slats fit multiple sections. You can also install a corner shelving unit, but it is most convenient to make sections on the entire wall with horizontal shelves and storage compartments. This will allow you to place all the tools, containers, and boxes on the wall. The garage should not be overly filled with furniture, since there should be at least one meter left on both sides of the car. Along with shelving, you can install hooks and hangers for clothes in the garage workshop.

Functionality and requirements

Most often, garage furniture is shelving. Stationary shelves cannot be changed in height, but they can withstand heavy loads. Prefabricated shelving has vertical posts made of perforated metal, which allows you to change their height. Mobile shelves can be moved using wheels. Rotating racks are a retrofitted disk rack that can be used to store small items such as nails or screws. The choice of this or that furniture depends on the number of items, as well as their configuration and weight.

The furniture requirements are as follows:

  1. It should be easy to clean from dirt;
  2. Furniture must be resistant to temperature changes, mechanical damage and ultraviolet radiation. Temperature changes in the garage are common as the garage door will be opened and closed regularly;
  3. Furniture must be resistant to toxic environments.

Each material has its own weak points. Metal is the most durable, but it is susceptible to corrosion and weighs a lot. Wood is susceptible to mold. Plastic is not able to withstand heavy loads.

Arrangement rules

How comfortable a person will be in the room depends on the proper arrangement of furniture in the garage. The main challenge is to find extra centimeters to store tools. You need to start the placement process with zoning - it’s more convenient to outline all the zones on paper. This process is just as important as for the bedroom or kitchen. The garage must have a walk-through area. She must always be free. Here you can place a clothes hanger. Accordingly, there should be nothing there except clothes. It is necessary to designate a so-called easy access zone where things that are used constantly will be placed. You can put a separate rack for storing household items and preservation.

All long and thin items, including brooms, shovels and other oversized equipment, should be kept nearby so they are easy to find. As for large items that are rarely used, they should be placed where there is no passage or passage. You can choose a mezzanine or a place under the ceiling. This includes seasonal items, that is, those that are used several times a year. Anything that is used frequently should be in the area quick access, for example, along one of the long walls of the garage. Must be within easy reach car pump, a set of keys, a spare tire and other equipment.

It is better if the most frequently used tools are located near the workbench, which is the main workplace. It is important to maintain order here, to put everything in its place immediately upon completion of work, otherwise work area gets cluttered quickly. Screws and bolts should be kept in transparent containers. It makes sense to sign closed boxes. Small and medium-sized tools can be conveniently stored on perforated panels. Most often they are placed in front of workbenches. Magnetic strips are also convenient to use for the most frequently used tools. A properly designed garage can accommodate a huge amount of various items, while it is within reach and there is still free space left.

A garage is not only a place for a car, but also a source of invaluable additional space, which can be used truly rationally if you design useful devices with your own hands.

DIY garage accessories

Since the garage, by its intended purpose, is a home for cars, you should be careful to ensure that the space for tools is well organized. Also in the room there will probably be several square meters in order to remove some of the items from the apartment so as not to clutter the living space.

When installing various devices indoors, it is important to consider that all available equipment is at hand. To do this, you can use the following recommendations:

Rational organization of space in the garage creates many tangible benefits:

  • it becomes possible to independently carry out short-term repairs of car parts and other mechanisms, due to which you can significantly save money;
  • Convenient placement of tools significantly speeds up work and saves time;
  • Creation additional places for storing tools, old things, clothes, it makes it possible to unload the apartment from things that are rarely used in the household;
  • Finally, thoughtful internal logistics of the premises allow it to maintain its attractive appearance and avoid clutter.

PLEASE NOTE. At the project development stage, it is important to proceed from the area of the room, and also take into account several mandatory utility compartments - for storing summer and winter tires, cans, jack, etc.

Garage rack: step-by-step manufacturing instructions

Since the garage always contains quite a lot of items, organizing their arrangement is a fundamental requirement for proper storage. The simplest and at the same time convenient option is to create a rack with shelves.

Preparatory stage

Before you begin installing the structure, you should consider several important requirements:

  • The total weight of the rack should not be more than 4-5 centners - otherwise the structure will be very difficult to move if necessary. It will also put significant pressure on the floor, which can deteriorate the quality of the coating.
  • When choosing materials, it is important to proceed from considerations of strength and durability of the structure. Metal is optimal, as well as wooden products from beech or oak. Plastic shelves are not suitable - they are not durable and, moreover, may not withstand temperature changes.
  • Choosing between metal and wooden structure, you should proceed from your specific needs. Metal is more durable and stronger, but wood is more affordable. If you need to place a few tools, it is enough to make a small wooden rack.
  • Since all the tools are very heavy, you should immediately calculate the strength of the structure so that it can withstand at least 100-150 kg on one shelf.

Installation of a wooden structure

To make such a device for a garage with your own hands, you will need ordinary working tools:

  • hacksaw for wood and metal;
  • hammer, nails;
  • screwdriver, self-tapping screws;
  • construction tape;
  • construction level;
  • electric drill.

All wooden parts Before assembly, it is important to prime and varnish. There may be increased humidity or temperature changes in the garage, so the wood will not last long without treatment.

Metal structures are exceptionally durable and strong. In addition, they do not need to be treated with special materials to prevent rotting.

You can make both a rack and separate structures, for example, for storing rubber, from metal.

In this case, you should take into account the rules for storing tires, which are shown schematically in the figure.

At the design stage of a metal rack, you should take into account that all the necessary items can be freely placed in it. You can take this drawing as a basis.

Or this option.

The easiest option is to purchase a modular design and assemble it yourself. But you can make this device for the garage with your own hands. The sequence of actions is as follows:

It is better to place the heaviest equipment on the lower shelves for optimal load distribution throughout the rack. At the same time, the most best option– when the lower floors are made of corrugated metal, and for the upper floors it is quite acceptable to use durable chipboard.

Hanging shelves: fast and practical

Not in all cases there is a need to create a rack, since it will take up a lot of space. On the other hand, in a garage of any size there is always unused upper space, which can easily be used for hanging shelves.

Structurally, it is quite possible to make any version of such a device for the garage with your own hands:

The tools you will need are the standard set described above. The sequence of actions is as follows:

If the shelf is mounted to the ceiling, you can strengthen its connection to the wall using metal corners– then the product will not wobble and will last much longer.

The entire technology is shown schematically in the figure.

Making a shield shelf

The DIY technology for making such a device for a garage has its own differences compared to installing conventional shelves:

  • The shield itself is made of durable plywood, the parameters of which are selected according to the situation. Visually, the shield should completely cover the surface of the desktop.
  • Space is allocated on the board for all shelves and appropriate notes are made.
  • Next, all the holes into which the dowels fit are made in the surface of the structure. It is on them that the hooks will be attached, on which all the tools will be placed.
  • The shield is secured to the wall using brackets. The corresponding holes are made using a hammer drill.

All steps are shown schematically in the figure.

Workbench for the garage: step-by-step instructions

Another structure that will probably be needed for repair, plumbing and other types of work is a workbench. It can be purchased in a store, but if you have a certain skill, then it is quite possible to make such a device with your own hands and put it in the garage.

Before carrying out the actual installation work It is important to clarify several important details:

  • Where will the table be located?
  • What kind of work will mainly be carried out on it.
  • What work surface material is suitable - metal or wood?

All these questions are closely related to the purpose of the product. If work is expected to be done frequently, then it is better to choose durable metal. And for standard household tasks, durable wood will do.

It is important to understand that a workbench is not just work surface. Often it combines the function of a wardrobe, a small chest of drawers and even a metal safe - this set of parameters depends on the specific configuration of the product.

Types of workbenches

The key classification of workbenches is based on the types of work that are supposed to be carried out on it:

At the same time, these functions can be combined, so such a classification is largely arbitrary. The best option such a garage device is a design based on metal frame with wooden table top and drawers. It is more reliable than its wooden counterpart, and allows you to save on manufacturing due to the fact that some parts will be made of wood. The table surface can be strengthened metal sheet– then the workbench will last a very long time.

Technology for making a workbench from a metal frame

To install the structure you will need a standard set of tools and materials:

  • welding machine;
  • grinder for metal;
  • building level;
  • jigsaw for wood;
  • screwdriver, drill;
  • self-tapping screws, anchor bolts;
  • hammer and nails;
  • metal corners with parameters 5*5 cm;
  • square pipes 6*4 cm, total length about 24-25 m;
  • steel strip 4 cm thick, up to 8-9 m long;
  • paint for wood and metal processing.

These parameters are intended for the manufacture of a finished product with table parameters of 220*75 cm, as shown in the figure.

The sequence of actions is as follows:

Even at the stage of designing a workbench, it is important to decide whether the device will be collapsible or whether it will be permanently installed in the garage. In case collapsible version all parts are attached using self-tapping screws, and the principles of technology will be different.

Wooden workbench manufacturing technology

A wooden workbench is less durable than a metal one. It is well suited for cases where the work is supposed to be done less often - several times a year.

To make this device for the garage with your own hands, you can use the same drawing given above, or take the diagram shown in the figure as a sample.

The algorithm will be something like this:

Do-it-yourself garage tipper: step-by-step video instructions

Along with creating the considered devices for the garage, you can also take care to make with your own hands the working tools that will be needed directly for maintenance auto.

One of the most useful installations is a tipper for inspecting the bottom of the car. The need for such a product is most relevant for Russian realities, since not in every case there is a real possibility of constructing an inspection hole.

Detailed video instructions with step by step diagram manufacturing

Before making such an installation, it is extremely important to consider the issue of safety. Even a light car can cause an accident if it falls and, at a minimum, will receive serious damage. Therefore, you can only undertake the creation of such a design if you have sufficient skill.

Self-manufacturing of garage accessories allows you to rationally organize the internal space and essentially get your own workshop in which you can carry out any ongoing repair work.

Original ideas for organizing space in the garage

And finally - a photo selection visual ideas on creating spacious structures from a variety of items that are likely to be found in any garage.

The article discusses the most convenient and practical do-it-yourself garage accessories that can improve the operating comfort of this room. Here are detailed recommendations for the development and creation of structures designed for convenient storage of tools and car parts, tips for making furniture, as well as arranging lighting and heating systems.

The garage is intended not only for storage, but also for servicing the car. For this reason, this room must be spacious, clean, comfortable and well-equipped.

To achieve all this, it is enough to take into account the basic requirements regarding the organization of space:

  1. The presence of shelves for tires and tool storage significantly saves free space and allows you to optimize space.
  2. The quality of lighting has great value, since not only productivity, but also the quality of minor repair work depends on this.
  3. The construction of a garage workbench, machines, inspection pit and other devices expand the range of possibilities of the car owner in relation to repair and service. vehicle.

Useful advice! All these elements should not occupy space exceeding 10-20% of the garage area.

Options for shelves in the garage with your own hands: photos and tips for arranging storage spaces

About 80% of the shelves in the garage are built with your own hands to store garage accessories, namely:

  • tools and additional devices;
  • components for the car;
  • accessories.

Often in photos of shelves in a garage with your own hands you can see them combined with a rack, which you can also make yourself. Most often, the rack is considered as the main place for storing tools. After its installation, the remaining space is filled with comfortable and spacious shelves.

Be sure to designate a place where work clothes will be stored. It is not necessary to occupy a large area; you can get by with one shelf or even a hook (depending on your needs).

A garage is a place where hazardous and flammable substances are stored. These include oil, gasoline, solvents, paints, and polishes. For them, it is necessary to provide a separate cabinet, hang a fire extinguisher and install a sand tank.

To protect against contamination during storage of wheels mounted on tire brackets, it is worth purchasing large bags or specialized covers to prevent dust from entering.

Brackets and shelves for wheels in the garage: design features

The most bulky spare parts of a vehicle include sets of tires, which can be winter or summer. When winter tires are used, summer tires are usually stored in the garage, and vice versa. Therefore, you should organize tire storage shelves or brackets.

The design of the bracket is as follows:

  1. Two triangular frames made from corners. Between these frames, jumpers made of any durable metal are installed.
  2. The triangular parts of the structure are fixed on the wall in a pre-selected location. The wheels should be installed perpendicular to the supporting element of the stand. In this case, the tires should fall slightly between the jumpers, thus being fixed on the shelf due to their own weight.

Useful advice! It is recommended to place shelves for wheels in the garage with your own hands as close to the ceiling as possible at the optimal height. Thanks to this, car tires will not take up useful space in the garage.

For compact storage of wheels, a whole rack in the form of four wide shelves can be used. It is suitable for placing wheels with discs, which can be placed one above the other in a horizontal position. The structure can be made angular and raised onto the wall.

  • wooden beam;
  • boards;
  • chipboard sheets.

Installing tire racks is the most efficient way to store wheels. Greater savings in free space can be achieved by hanging rubber from the ceiling base along the garage wall. This option is possible if the room has a large height and reinforced concrete floors in the form of slabs on the ceiling. They will be used as a basis for screwing in dowels.

Tool storage: interesting ideas for a DIY garage

To organize a convenient area for placing things, you can make your own homemade and very spacious rack or shelves. Of course, you can find hundreds of ready-made models in stores, however, making a shelf in the garage with your own hands is much cheaper than purchasing a similar product on the market.

The same problem applies to shelving. By taking on the task of making your own tool storage space, you can not only organize a convenient and practical rack, but also fit it harmoniously into the garage space.

Useful advice! The minimum load that the structure must withstand is 150 kg or more. In this case, the maximum load limit per section is 500 kg.

Rules for the manufacture of wood products:

  1. It is better to use hardwood, for example, beech, oak, hornbeam.
  2. Before assembly, it is necessary to treat the wood with antiseptic agents.
  3. The frame parts must be carefully polished to ensure safe operation of the rack.
  4. To make shelves, it is recommended to use chipboard or plywood sheets, OSB. DVL slabs with a thickness of at least 4 mm are also suitable.

The thickness of the material is determined by the loads that will subsequently act on the rack.

Recommendations for making tool shelves in the garage with your own hands

Shelves are installed in cases where the garage does not allow for a shelving unit. It is better if there are several designs.

Scheme for creating shelves for tools:

  1. Plan the placement of shelves, determine their size and mark them.
  2. Prepare material in the form of boards and fasteners.
  3. Using a hammer drill, make holes in the wall and install dowels with hooks in them, which will provide enhanced fixation.
  4. Attach hangers equipped with eyelets to the boards. For metal hangers, it is recommended to use self-tapping screws or regular nails.
  5. Fix finished products using a building level, otherwise the tool may fall from the shelves, which makes operation unsafe.

Useful advice! When making shelves, it is better to give preference to several short structures, since one long product can break under the weight of the tool.

At the final stage, you can apply decorative finishing to the products (paint or special film).

Technology for creating a tool rack in the garage

To create a rack with my own hands You will need boards 9 and 19 cm wide. The size of the structure can be adjusted.

Step-by-step technology:

  1. An element 9 cm wide is cut into several pieces 18 cm, 27.5 cm and 30 cm long. The resulting parts will be spacers.
  2. The board, the width of which is 19 cm, should be cut into pieces 36 cm long. Shelves will be made from these parts.
  3. On the board that will become the base of the product, it is necessary to apply markings in those places where there will be spacers. It is recommended to indent 2.5 cm on each side.
  4. The top spacer is glued, then the top shelf, which already has a spacer, is nailed to it. The remaining parts are mounted in the same way. Installation of the lower strut is carried out at the end.
  5. The structure should be turned over and the spacers should be screwed together with the base of the product.
  6. The surface is thoroughly cleaned using sandpaper. After this, the product must be coated with two layers of oil-based varnish or another type of finishing.
  7. The structure is fixed to the wall using anchor screws. Fixation should be done both under the top and bottom shelves.

Useful advice! To strengthen the product, wood blocks should be installed between the sections. They will allow you to evenly distribute the load throughout the rack.

Organization of lighting and heating systems in the garage

To make the operation of the garage comfortable, the lighting, ventilation and heating systems in the room should be properly organized. Since cars are closely associated with the use of toxic and harmful substances, the problem of ventilation in confined spaces is especially acute. For a garage, vents are suitable for brickwork. They are equipped with grilles.

Factors affecting lighting levels:

  • garage area, its height;
  • the number and nature of the placement of work areas (dimensions of a workbench for a garage, inspection pit, number of machines);
  • type of decoration on the walls, its colors;
  • indicator of network power density per 1 m²;
  • type of garage lights.

To maintain the optimal temperature, various types of heating can be used:

  • gas;
  • based on waste oil;
  • air;
  • electric ( infrared heater for garage);
  • oven;
  • water;

There are many alternative ways organize your own heating system.

Features of halogen, fluorescent and LED garage lights

The technical characteristics of halogen lamps are in many ways similar to incandescent lamps, but their bulb is filled with bromine vapor, so the products emit more light. The advantages of such lamps include a long service life - 4 thousand hours.

Useful advice! Products must be placed in lampshades. It is also worth thinking about stabilization aimed at protecting against electrical surges. It is not recommended to touch such lamps with your hands (the shelf life will be reduced).

Fluorescent lamps are filled with inert gases inside. The inside of the flask is coated with a specialized composition that emits ultraviolet light under the influence of an arc-type discharge. Recommended models include IP-65 class products, protected from moisture and dust particles.

Installation LED lighting in the garage comes with the highest costs. However, they pay for themselves in 50 thousand working hours. In terms of efficiency, LEDs are 50% more profitable than fluorescent lamps. At the same time, they do not contain harmful components, and the light does not have an aggressive effect on the eyes, so there is no need to purchase additional lampshades.

Installing lighting in a garage: how to calculate

To calculate the power of conventional lamps, you can use the formula:

P = S x W/N.

Explanation of values:

  • P – total required power, W/m².
  • W – power of one lamp, W.
  • N – number of lamps (luminaires), pcs.
  • S – room area, m².

For halogen and LED lamps the optimal indicator is 16-20 W/m². This value is suitable for rooms where the ceiling height is no more than 2.5 m. In garages with 3-meter ceilings, this figure should be multiplied by 1.5.

The calculation is influenced interior decoration room walls. In dark garages, the lighting should be brighter.

Light reflection level:

Room area, m² Ceiling height, m Wall color
Dark Light
20 less than 3 0,6 0,75
50 0,75 0,9
100 0,85 1
20 3-5 0,4 0,55
50 0,6 0,75
100 0,75 0,9
50 5-7 0,4 0,55
100 0,6 0,75

To illuminate the inspection pit in the garage, it is recommended to use low-power lamps with halogen or LED lamps, since moisture accumulating in this place can cause an electric shock. The devices are mounted on the sides in pre-made recesses.

Useful advice! To prevent an accidentally dropped tool from breaking the lamp, the design of the lamps can be made retractable. When the pit is not in use, the devices are securely hidden in the recesses.

Do-it-yourself autonomous lighting system in the garage

There are a number of principles on the basis of which an autonomous lighting system is implemented:

  1. LED strips are mounted inside the lampshades (there are 300 diodes per element).
  2. The switch is output strictly to the panel.
  3. A suspended ceiling system is used for electrical wiring.
  4. The wires are powered by a battery connected to the network via a charger.

A multi-level lighting system for a garage is considered the most optimal. It involves installing a large lamp in the middle of the room and installing small lamps in work areas.

Height calculation for a multi-level system:

Level Height, m
1 ceiling base
2 1,8
3 0,75
4 0,4

The lamps are installed correctly if the machine does not cast a shadow on either side.

Which heater to choose for a garage

Heating of the garage is carried out using small portable devices that can warm the room in short terms and further maintain the optimal temperature.

When thinking about which heaters are best for a garage, many mistakenly believe that homemade device can be made exclusively from expensive components and requires a significant investment of time. For this reason, garage owners refuse this idea.

In fact, to make a garage heater with your own hands, it is enough to limit yourself to budget materials, for example, thermal film. The scheme for creating such a device is very simple and involves the use of the following materials and tools:

  • a kit intended for assembling a heater;
  • wire equipped with a plug;
  • paper laminated plastic (area of one element 1 m²);
  • graphite powder;
  • epoxy adhesive composition.

Useful advice! Be sure to have a multimeter with you. This tool is useless when assembling the device, but it will be needed to check for functionality.

Thermal, or - a common heating option in the garage

Recommendations for assembling a homemade garage heater

Step-by-step instructions on how to make a garage heater:

  1. A mixture of glue and graphite powder is made. The more powder in the composition, the stronger the heating of the device will be. The average temperature ranges from 60-65°C.
  2. Plastic sheets on the rough side are coated with a mixture of glue and graphite, which is applied in zigzag strokes, after which they are fastened with their faces and fixed with a frame made from wooden slats.
  3. Terminals are attached to the graphite conductors and the structure is dried. Drying must be complete, otherwise moisture will damage the device.

After the heater has dried, the resistance should be checked. A garage heater is considered safe only after this check. Until this point, it is strictly forbidden to connect the device to the electrical network.

Safety restrictions:

  1. It is not recommended to leave the device switched on unattended or near children.
  2. It is prohibited to use equipment that can cause a fire.
  3. Do not place flammable substances or materials near the device.

Recommendations for creating a viewing hole in the garage with your own hands

There are no specific sizes for a garage inspection pit. The dimensions of the car are taken as the basis.

How to make an inspection hole in a garage with optimal parameters:

  1. The width is selected so that there is enough space inside to work. The size is limited by the distance at which the car's wheels are seated. Each wheel needs a small area to maneuver. The average pit width is 0.8 m.
  2. The length of the pit is limited by the length of the machine. 1 m should be added to this indicator.
  3. The height of the garage owner is used to calculate the depth. Another 10-15 cm is added to it.

How to properly make a viewing hole in a garage using different materials:

Material Wall thickness, cm
Ceramic brick 12-25
Concrete 15
20

The pit is dug taking into account optimal width pit, the material chosen for the walls, as well as the thickness of the waterproofing layer. Stages of creating a pit:

  • marking;
  • construction of a pit;
  • arrangement of the pit;
  • construction of walls;
  • lighting gasket.

For waterproofing walls, specialized hydrophobic impregnation is used.

Useful advice! Using formwork, you can make reinforced recesses in the walls of the pit to accommodate tools and lighting fixtures.

Making a garage press with your own hands

To create a press, it should be made from 4 pieces metal pipes frame size 178x80 cm. These elements are connected by welding. It is recommended to be guided in your work by drawings, selected or compiled in advance. After this you need to install:

  • retainer;
  • removable stop;
  • bottle jack (hydraulic).
