These are just some of the sun loungers that you can purchase for your summer cottage. If you wish, you can make your own chaise lounge in the form of a swing, and also using ordinary tree branches as material. It all depends on your preferences.

Making a wooden sun lounger

First, you need to prepare a certain set of materials and tools that you will need to make a homemade sun lounger:

  • self-tapping screws;
  • jigsaw and screwdriver;
  • boards for covering the frame, 2.5 cm wide;
  • timber 40x40 mm for the frame;
  • corners for fastening boards (4 pcs.); wooden slabs 20 mm thick.

When going to the store to buy boards and slabs, we advise you to choose material made from softwood. He tolerates it much better negative influence precipitation and has a wonderful aroma.

Stages of work

Now that you have everything you need prepared, you can proceed to assembling the wooden lounger.

You should first decide on the size garden chair. You can use a ready-made drawing or create it yourself. Typically standard sun loungers measure 60 x 200 cm.

Now you can start making the frame. For it you will need bars, from which you need to make four sidewalls - two of them should be 200 cm long, and two more should be 60 cm long. The finished sidewalls must be subsequently connected to each other using fastening corners.

WITH outside the frame must be sheathed with a board 2.5 cm wide.

We take the long sidewalls and attach 4 legs to them, having first stepped back 8 cm from the edge. The legs can be made from beams 10 cm long. We use self-tapping screws to attach them to the frame.

Having finished making the frame, we begin to assemble the lattice. For it we need wooden slabs, from which we need to cut boards measuring 60 x 10 cm using a jigsaw.

We attach the boards to the chaise lounge frame using self-tapping screws. Be sure to leave a gap of about 1.5 cm between the boards. Then the lattice of the sun lounger will look neat and beautiful.

If desired, you can make a chaise lounge with an adjustable backrest. In this case, the lattice must be divided into two parts. One of them will serve as a lounger, and the other as a headboard. We mount both parts to the connecting boards. To reliably connect elements, it is best to use door hinges.

So that the headboard can be fixed in a certain position, the frame design with inside a crossbar should be added. You need to attach a support post for the headboard to it using self-tapping screws. If you don’t have one, you can buy it at any hardware store.

Now that your homemade summer cottage is ready, all that remains is to sand the boards, cover them with drying oil or a special paint and varnish material to protect them from moisture.

Making a fabric lounger

If for some reason a wooden folding lounge chair is not suitable for you, then you can try making a fabric lounge chair instead.

Materials and tools

To make a chaise lounge from fabric material you will need the following:

  • bolts with nuts 8 mm;
  • a piece of durable fabric 200x60 cm;
  • slats round section 2 cm thick (one strip 700 mm long, two 650 and two 550 mm long);
  • rectangular boards 30x60 cm thick (two boards 1200 mm long, two 1000 mm long and two 600 mm long);
  • sandpaper.

To make a frame lounger, it is best to use tarpaulin, camouflage or denim fabric. They have sufficient strength and are resistant to wear.

Algorithm of actions

Now you can proceed directly to assembling the fabric lounger.

As you can see above, making a chaise lounge for a summer house from fabric is no more difficult than a similar lounge chair made from wood.

Processing of the finished product

To extend the life of your homemade garden chair, we advise you to immediately treat the material from which it was made. To do this, you can use the following compositions:

  • For wood, we recommend purchasing special protective impregnations and antiseptics that will reduce negative impact external factors on the material. Wood materials are best processed before assembling the product.
  • To increase the service life of a wooden chaise longue, it can be treated with paint, drying oil or varnish. It is advisable to coat the product with one of the selected products immediately after production.
  • Water-repellent impregnations for fabrics. With their help, you will not only increase the wear resistance of the fabric material, but also maintain the brightness of the colors. The effect of such treatments lasts for 2-3 weeks.

Buying a garden chair

Perhaps some summer residents will not want to spend time and money making a sun lounger with their own hands. In this case, you can go to the store and buy there ready-made garden bed. The furniture showroom will offer you a variety of such products to choose from. Surely among them you will find how budget options, as well as unusual designs of designer models of sun loungers for the street.

After studying the proposed options and comparing their characteristics, all you have to do is decide on the amount you are willing to pay for a sun lounger. The cost of such sun loungers depends on the size and material of manufacture:

  • wooden sun loungers will cost you between 6,000-15,000 rubles;
  • for plastic sun loungers you will have to pay from 1500 to 9000 rubles;

But everyone has the power to make their vacation more enjoyable if they prepare a place for it in advance. To do this, you must have special furniture like a chaise lounge.

How to make a wooden sun lounger with your own hands: drawings and stages of work

Drawings and diagrams for making a wooden sun lounger are presented in large quantities, but to make such a design yourself, you can also use a simple step by step instructions.

Master class on making a Kentucky chair

A very original model is the Kentucky version, entirely assembled from wooden blocks. This chair can be folded and is very convenient to store. For self-production you will need to purchase:

  • galvanized wire with a diameter of 0.4 cm;
  • sixteen galvanized staples;
  • hammer and wire cutters;
  • fine-grained sandpaper;
  • bars wooden sizes 50x33 mm;
  • antiseptic composition and wood varnish, as well as a brush.

It is not difficult to assemble the structure yourself. Holes are drilled in the bars with a diameter one and a half millimeters larger than the thickness of the wire used. If necessary, you can replace the staples and wire with galvanized studs, the edges of which are secured with nuts and washers.

A simple option for making your own wooden sun lounger

This option is easy to manufacture, but quite bulky and does not allow you to change the position of the backrest. Before you start making your own, you need to decide on the dimensions of the structure. The optimal length of a sunbed is considered to be two meters with a width of 0.6 m.

The main stages of making a wooden sun lounger model are as follows:

  • manufacturing a frame base for a sun lounger from four sidewalls, a pair of which are two meters long, and two of which are 60 cm long;
  • covering the outer part of the frame with sanded boards, 2.5 cm wide;
  • fixing four legs on the long sidewalls with a distance of 80 mm from the edge of the structure using galvanized self-tapping screws;
  • It is best to use stable legs for making lounger legs wooden blocks 100 mm long.

At the next stage, the grate is assembled, which represents the main part of the outdoor lounger. Using electric wooden slabs it is necessary to cut boards measuring 10x60 cm. All jagged and rough surfaces on wooden workpieces must be removed using fine sandpaper. The finished boards are fixed using galvanized screws onto the frame base of the sun lounger and with a gap of one and a half centimeters, which will allow you to obtain a comfortable and attractive product.

Models with a comfortable adjustable back are somewhat less common. In this case, the lattice should be divided into a pair of parts, one of which is used directly as a lounger, and the other part serves as a comfortable headboard. The two parts are installed on connecting boards, and standard door hinges are used to fasten the lattice elements required sizes. To fix the headboard in a certain position, a transverse bar is used, which is installed on the inner edge of the frame base of the structure. The headboard support post is attached to such a bar using galvanized self-tapping screws. The finished structure must be thoroughly sanded, and then the surface must be coated with drying oil-based compounds or special varnishes.

  • furniture bolts and nuts D-8mm;
  • two round wooden slats 65 cm long;
  • two round wooden slats 50 cm long;
  • slats rectangular section 65 cm long with a cross section of 25x60 mm;
  • a piece of durable and water-repellent fabric measuring 200 x 50 cm.

You will also need to purchase a round file and fine-grained sandpaper, as well as PVC glue. Experts recommend giving preference to slats made from wood species such as oak or birch. As a durable and reliable fabric, we use types that are maximally resistant to abrasion and characterized by increased strength indicators. Mattress teak, as well as tarpaulin, denim and camouflage fabric, and canvas have proven themselves to be the best.

Manufacturing technology of a folding fabric model:

  • cutting slats of standard length and thoroughly sanding their surface with sandpaper;
  • holes are drilled at a distance of 0.7 and 0.4 m from the corners, after which they are polished with a round needle file;
  • In order for the position of the backrest to change during operation, three or four cutouts must be made with a distance of 8.0 cm;
  • With a sufficient distance from the two ends of the wooden slats, holes are drilled for arranging the seat;
  • The end part of the round wooden slats is greased with PVA glue and installed in the drilled holes.

The assembly of the frame ends with the installation of a fabric seat. The seat is sewn after measuring the finished frame. The crossbars are wrapped around the cut edge and secured using standard furniture nails. Loop fastening of the fabric seat to the crossbars is also allowed.

Chaise lounge diagram with dimensions

TO necessary tools and the components that are simply impossible to do without in the process of creating a product such as a chaise longue for the home or a rocking chair for newborns (or for dolls) include a certain list of tools and materials.

This process cannot be done without:

  • saws;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • wood putties;
  • roulette;
  • sandpaper;
  • marker;
  • paints of a certain (desired) color range;
  • drills (preferably electric);
  • square

In addition, it is impossible to make a piece of furniture such as a chaise longue or rocking chair for newborns (dolls) with your own hands without:

  • wooden boards, the size of which is 400 cm x 2.5 cm × 8 cm, in the amount of four pieces;
  • wooden blocks, measuring 400 cm x 5 cm x 10 cm, three pieces;
  • There are two studs that are intended for fixation.

Step-by-step process of making a sun lounger

  • The primary task is to create the strongest possible frame. In the process of this, it is necessary to create four parts, the material for the manufacture of which is wooden beam good quality. You need 2 longitudinal parts 215 cm long and 2 transverse parts whose length is 50 cm. Then you should make the seats. In this process, a board of wood is taken and cut evenly into bars, the length of which is 60 cm. It should be remembered that to create the structure as a whole, it is necessary to create 13 elements of this kind.
  • After this, it is necessary to fix, using self-tapping screws, the frame of the future sun lounger with these segments so that the distance between them is 1 cm.

Scheme for attaching the slats to the chaise lounge frame

  • The next stage is creating the legs of the product. In order to give the maximum level of stability to the structure in the area where the seat will be, double supports should be created, the length of which is 35 centimeters. They must be made from high-quality wooden blocks. In the headboard area, you can limit yourself to attaching single legs, which will have a similar length.
  • Next you need to make the back. In the process of creating the frame, you should prepare two parts whose size is 88 centimeters, as well as three parts whose length will be 39 centimeters. These dimensions must be strictly observed - only in this case the frame can become part of the main structure. Moreover, small gaps should be left on all sides.
  • At the next stage, it is necessary to securely fix the boards on the frame of the back of the product in the direction of the length of the chaise lounge. In order to obtain the most aesthetically pleasing appearance of the structure, the top of the planks should be rounded.
  • After this, you need to attach the backrest to the base of the chair - this is necessary so that during operation it can easily change its position (be raised or lowered). During this process, it is necessary to drill holes 9 centimeters from the edge of the seat. The grooves must be made all the way through - to ensure free passage through the 2 structures.

Scheme for attaching the slats to the back of the chaise longue

  • Then, using pins, you should fix the structure on 2 sides of the chaise lounge. After this, 2 grooves should be made in the base of the structure, in which the support bars will be located. As a result, this will provide the opportunity to fix the back of the chaise lounge for the home in one position or another. One notch (which should measure 5 x 10 centimeters) should be made approximately 9 centimeters from where the pin is located. The location of the second groove is approximately 20 centimeters from the location of the first notch, and the dimensions of the slot should be 5 x 5 centimeters. In the first recess, it is necessary to place a support beam, the length of which is 60 centimeters, in a horizontal position. This approach will provide the opportunity to rest the back on it, i.e., it will ensure its support and fixation in a semi-sitting position. To be able to change the angle of inclination and create a semi-recumbent position, it is necessary to pull out the first beam and install the board in the second recess in a vertical position.

The process of making your own sun lounger is almost over! All that remains is to complete the final finishing work- sand the structure with zero-grade sandpaper (you can do it manually, or you can use an electric grinding machine) and cover the chaise longue or rocking chair for newborns or dolls with high-quality varnish or paint.

In order for a self-made chaise longue to serve as long as possible, initially all of it wooden surfaces It is advisable to thoroughly treat it with special protective liquids. This will prevent damage to the structure of the chaise lounge (or swing) during operation as a result of the aggressive action of various natural factors, which include direct sun rays, rain, high humidity, insects, etc. For these purposes, experts recommend using wood vinegar, oil, high-quality wood varnish or glaze.

For additional protection, as well as more comfortable relaxation, a chaise longue, like a wooden swing for a summer house, can be equipped with an awning. This is most necessary if products of this kind are planned to be used in areas with a hot climate or with high humidity. The process of installing the awning is simple and does not require much - just four bolts with washers and wing nuts are enough. The head of each bolt must be carefully cut off, and the end on which there is no thread must be sharpened so that it looks like a tetrahedral flat wedge. All that remains is to securely attach the fabric awning to the top of the awning and the side slats of the back of the chaise lounge (or swing) using bolts.

Arriving at the dacha, some begin to work hard - weeding the beds, fighting weeds and pests, and watering. And some begin, on the contrary, to rest heavily. In this case, a sun lounger is indispensable. The word has French roots and means “long chair.”

In essence, everything is correct - a long chair for relaxation, on which it is comfortable to lie. How to make a chaise lounge with your own hands, with photos and illustrations, what to make it from, interesting designs and diagrams - further in the article.

Materials for making sun loungers

The material for the sun lounger can be used:

  • wood, rattan;
  • plastic and PVC pipes;
  • metal;
  • textile.

The most popular, due to their durability and environmental friendliness, are sun loungers made of wood. Solid wood has only one drawback - the rather large weight of the product. However, by adapting small wheels to the sun lounger, the problem can be considered solved.

Plastic is light and cheap, easy to care for, but fragile and short-lived compared to wood or metal. Fabric beds are comfortable, do not take up much space when folded and have a durable metal or wooden frame. Sometimes PVC pipes are used as a frame, which reduces the cost of the structure, but makes it not so reliable.

Rattan is a high-quality, environmentally friendly material, a chaise lounge made of which looks great in the country. Its disadvantage is the very high cost of products made from it. But few people know how to weave rattan furniture.

To make a wooden lounger durable, the wood must be protected with impregnations and paints. It is recommended to protect the product with impregnation before its assembly, and paint and varnish materials can be processed after assembly.

Wooden lattice chaise longue

To make a lounger you will need:

  • softwood slabs;
  • wooden beam;
  • jigsaw, hacksaw;
  • roulette;
  • hand router;
  • accessories - self-tapping screws, door hinges, metal corner.

The frame is assembled from timber using metal corners, boards are attached to the outside on the sides. Next, the legs are attached to the frame and boards. A lattice is cut out of a wood board using a jigsaw. The back is a separate element of the frame, connected to it using door hinges.

A fastening strip with a stand is attached to the headboard with self-tapping screws. If frequent transportation of the structure is necessary, wheels are attached to the legs on the side of the head.

Before assembly, all elements are impregnated protective composition for wood, sanded and varnished after assembly yacht varnish or covered with alkyd enamel. The second option is less desirable, since the paint will cover the wood texture and the product will not look as interesting.

Fabric chaise lounge on frame

An extremely comfortable, but short-lived design - the fabric quickly becomes unusable. The lounger is subject to restoration, you just need to reupholster it with fabric. For its manufacture, a frame from old folding bed, or from a child's bed. If there are none, it’s quite possible to make slats yourself.

Holes are drilled in the main frame, and cutouts are made in the second element so that it is possible to adjust the tilt of the back of the chaise lounge. To install the seat, holes are drilled at both ends of the slats. Transverse circular cross-sections are inserted into the holes and glued to the glue.

The seat is made in such a way that it sags slightly - this makes it much more comfortable to rest. The edges of the seat around the perimeter are stitched on sewing machine. The round crossbar is wrapped in fabric and fixed on both sides with small nails.

There are quite a few original ideas for arranging a sunbed, some require quite a decent investment of money, some options will cost almost nothing.

Investing a certain amount of money does not always mean that the chaise lounge will be better and of higher quality than one made from scrap materials. Success largely depends on the thoughtfulness of the design and the skill of the person who assembles the product. Buy a ready-made one, or make a chaise lounge yourself - everyone decides to make something on their own to the best of their financial capabilities and skills.

DIY photo of a sun lounger

A do-it-yourself chaise longue (drawings with dimensions will be provided in the article below) is quite simple to make. But before buying material, it is better to calculate the amount of wood in advance, and the fabric is selected more durable.

Let's start like this:

  1. Choose pine board or timber. If it is not possible to bring/order, then we are looking for birch pallets. Now it's easier to get one quality material. Any type of wood must be treated. Moreover, we plan, sand and paint before assembling into one whole. A second layer of paint or varnish can be applied at the end.
  2. Next, we look at the drawing and notice that there are power elements. These are cross members that necessarily cut into the frame. And for such a procedure, a hammer, chisel or power carpentry tool (a hand router, for example) was created. Here it is important to do what was always done in stools of the Soviet period: tongue-and-groove fastening up to half the thickness of the frame block. And everything will fall into place. It won't be easy to unwind.
  3. The power crossbars on the frame are the same boards, but we attach decorative or regular tarpaulin to them. Synthetic fabric will also work. But we make sure that it does not stretch, otherwise the butts will eventually sink into the ground.
  4. So, two frames and two supports on movable hinges are ready. We assemble the structure together using bolted connections or special movable fasteners (the store will always help you with the choice).
  5. Collected. There is some fabric left. But it needs to be cut out. More on this later.

For simplicity, we give the dimensions for the drawings.

  1. Back. Frame. 1219x38x19 mm, two pieces. 610x38x19 mm one piece. 648x38x19mm is one joke. 610x64x19 mm one piece.
  2. Seat. Frame. 1118x38x19 mm 2 units. 603x38x19 mm 4 units. 565x38x19 mm one unit. 565x64x19 mm one unit.
  3. Back support. 381x38x19 two pieces. And a wooden dowel longer than 650 mm in the amount of 1 piece.

Materials and tools

To make a strong, correct seat, look at the following drawing:

You need to fold the cut piece of thick fabric and sew the indents. But you can make a two-layer coating without saving. To do this, fold the measured segment inward with the right sides and stitch along the sides. But in the center (similar to a pillowcase) we leave space for carefully turning the seat right side out. Then you can simply secure the longitudinal seams with another stitch.

But you need loops or pockets to connect everything into one. So we measure in advance already on wooden frame required size pockets, then we fold our rag and stitch it. It is important to measure so that there is a middle state between too tight and sagging.

When working with fabric and wood, we need to take:

  1. Plane.
  2. Hacksaw.
  3. Fasteners.
  4. Hammer.
  5. Chisel.
  6. Sewing machine.
  7. Measuring tool.
  8. Paints and varnishes for adding shine.

Be careful with the fasteners. Since iron or steel is susceptible to moisture, it is necessary to protect them with paint. He also recommends using quick-drying adhesives in those joints where there will be play. But under no circumstances do we apply adhesive to the threads, because disassembling the structure later will be problematic.

How to use and care

To keep things simple, you can do this:

Then the frame can be made monolithic, and the bright seat fabrics can be easily machine washed. Another plus: you can make several pockets for different weights and heights. The result will be a universal design that even a student can customize.

Decor

There is more than enough room for imagination. This is what happens without haste, savings and hackwork:

And if you take four more bars and movable fasteners (clamps, bolts, etc.), then you will get a sun canopy. What is always appropriate in good weather:

By replacing the fabric with boards, we get the simplest bench-chaise lounge in terms of labor costs. The idea is not new, but accessible:

When you don’t have time for cutting and sewing, you can again make a lattice base, and buy additional bedding from IKEA for this space:

Although the collapsible design does not look so expensive, it has a significant advantage - mobility. And you can fully relax if you add portable footrests to the same frame. And you don’t have to invent something for this:

Prefabricated or stationary sun loungers are simplest form country furniture. There was never anything complicated in their design. But when working on leisure furniture, as in any business, you need to adhere to an independent or read-out plan.
