  1. Weight. The shovel should be as light as possible. After all, we have to work with snow for a long time. In cold weather this is not so critical, but in the spring or during thaws, when the snow masses are saturated with water, the loads become such that you don’t even have to go to the rocking chair!
  2. Handle length and shape. It is advisable to select the model according to your height, otherwise your back will quickly get tired. Also, a handle would not be superfluous - it makes it easier to carry snow in above-zero temperatures: there is less load on the arms and back, the shovel does not turn over on its own under the weight of the load with an uneven distribution over the area of ​​the bucket. Taking a straight handle or a curved one is not for everybody.
  3. Material. In my practice, plastic has performed best. More precisely, a plastic bucket and a wooden handle. The tool is used regularly and has been in service for more than 3 years. It’s good if there is an aluminum border along the working edge - there is less chance of breakage in cold weather or when hitting rocks, metal structures in the yard while cleaning. Wood has one drawback - you can’t work without gloves. It leaves splinters, which is critical when you need to quickly clear the area.
  4. Bucket shape and equipment. It all depends on the principle of work and physical training. You can’t really leave the snow with a single-breasted shovel - it slides off, but it can be used as a scraper on narrow garden paths: Snow remains on the sides as you move forward. Allows you to avoid unnecessary movements. This trick will not work with a three-sided bucket. Here you can only scoop up snow and throw it aside. Can be carried over short distances.
