Homemade corner shelf. How to make a corner shelf. Plywood is a lightweight and reliable material

We looked at what corner shelves are (in a stand-alone version).

Today we will look at how quickly and easily you can make a module of such parts.

Well, I don’t think it’s worth talking about how these very shelves are made. Their production is ordered along with cutting.

They are cut out, processed with a milling cutter, and “rolled” with plastic, 2 millimeters thick. special equipment. In a word, it is better to make corner shelves not in makeshift conditions.

And since we are talking about how to make furniture in artisanal conditions, let’s take a better look at assembling a module with corner shelves.

So, the module itself consists of a side, a back piece and three corner shelves.

First, “by eye,” we make three holes in the end of the rear wall (just make sure that the middle one is not in the center, since there will be an axis for attaching the corner shelf).

Then, we apply it to the side of the module (in the place where there should be holes in it for connecting to it, we align their extreme ends, and with a pencil we make notches on the side part, opposite the holes made in the positioned part).

Having retreated 8 millimeters (our chipboard is 16 millimeters thick), we make holes in the side part.

As you can see, we do all the markings without a tape measure, “live”. Moreover, in this case, we obtain fairly good accuracy (hole alignment).

After that, we connect it to the back wall.

But here you need to be careful.

If you make two perpendicular holes close to each other (near the corner of the shelf), then when attaching the shelf (when confirmats are screwed into it), these confirmats may intersect. Therefore, by attaching the confirmation sheet opposite the hole made, we determine (visually) the position of the perpendicular hole.

After this, again, we attach shelves to each of the joining faces (side and back wall), and mark the position of the holes.

When the holes in the side part and in back wall done - attach the shelf. When fixing the shelf, you need to press it towards the joining surface in order to remove possible gaps between them.

Often the corners in rooms are empty, although there is a way to use them rationally: arrange corner corners. Such designs compare favorably with standard ones appearance, and most importantly, they save free space in rooms with small footage.

They are sold in furniture store and are made to order, but self-construction will also not cause difficulties. Today we will tell you how to properly place such furniture in the house, choose suitable materials for making and making corner shelves from wood, chipboard, glass and scraps metal-plastic pipes without the help of professionals.

Corner shelves on the wall

Hanging corner shelves are good because they allow you to free up space below for other furniture. Typically, such shelves are used to store books, souvenirs and other small items. It is also convenient to place flowers, icons, telephones, bathroom and kitchen accessories on them. We will look at the nuances of creating models suitable for each of the listed cases, and will start with a corner shelf for the living room.

Corner shelves save space in the room

Shelves for flowers, souvenirs and other small items are made of metal, plasterboard, glass, but the most popular material is still wood and its substitutes: they are practical, easy to care for and can be processed at home without any extra effort. To save money, you can not take full-size wood boards (MDF, laminated chipboard), but choose from leftovers on the market; there are often pieces of sizes suitable for shelves.

In addition to the material, you will need tools for working with wood - a drill, a jigsaw, sandpaper, a tape measure, a ruler and a marker for marking. You can’t do without fastening elements (screws, dowels) and trim tape for finishing the edges.

The decorative wall shelf in question consists of three tiers connected by sidewalls. First, we make a design drawing and indicate the dimensions of the components on it. Then we make individual parts from cardboard or paper and transfer them to the material, in this case - laminated chipboard, tracing the outline with a marker or the edge of a stationery knife.

Construction drawing

The parts are cut out using a jigsaw with fine teeth. After cutting, it is better to number the shelf fragments so as not to confuse them during assembly. In finished parts, fastener locations are indicated (for fastening individual fragments structures and for hanging on the wall) and drill holes of the required diameter with a drill.

Before joining, the components of the structure are cleaned of dust and sawdust and equipped with a decorative edge. To do this, the trimming tape is applied to the cut areas and glued by running a heated iron over the surface covered with a rag. If the tape turns out to be longer than necessary, carefully cut off the excess stationery knife, and the resulting edge is cleaned with sandpaper.

Processing slices

After completing the processing of the parts, we begin assembly, focusing on the diagram and numbering. Dowels are inserted into some of the holes and the parts are connected to each other with self-tapping screws, using a screwdriver or screwdriver. Upon completion of assembly, marks are made on the wall for the fasteners on which the shelf will be hung. In this case, you will need four of them - one for each jumper.

Having drilled holes of the required depth with a drill (for concrete walls It is worth using drills with a Pobedit tip) dowels are placed in them and the shelf is fixed with self-tapping screws. The finishing touch is to decorate the heads of the wall fasteners with special caps to match the color of the shelf. The design is ready! Now all that remains is to arrange books, photos and other little things dear to the heart.

Corner shelves for the kitchen

The kitchen accumulates a considerable amount of all kinds of jars with spices and sauces, small utensils for cooking, serving, and the like. If the main cabinets are already full, they will come to help in the fight against kitchen chaos corner shelves on the wall. They are hung above the dining area, above the stove or in another suitable place. Of course, such a shelf must be durable and spacious, so we opted for a two-tier structure made of fiberboard.

Kitchen shelf layout and diagram

The tools needed are similar to those used for the living room shelf. The fittings and fasteners are also similar, but you will additionally need hinged hinges and confirmations (furniture screws). The first step is to measure the available free space and, focusing on it, draw up a drawing of the shelf, indicating on it the parameters of all parts. Take the sketches given in the article as a sample or find others on the Internet.

Work on the construction of a kitchen corner shelf is carried out in the following order:

  • We make sidewalls. To do this, contours of parts are applied to sheets of material, which are then cut out with a jigsaw. It is more convenient to perform this work for two sidewalls at once, if it is possible to fasten 2 sheets of fiberboard with clamps.
  • If chips occur when cutting parts, they are treated with sandpaper or a grinding machine.
  • The cuts on the sidewalls are covered with trim tape, ironing it with an iron. In places of bends, the iron is applied to the tape with the nose part.

Sidewalls and crossbars
  • After making all the sidewalls, cut out the rectangular crossbars with which they will be connected. To give the design originality, the edges of the crossbars are rounded. Pasting the sections is done in the same way as on the sidewalls.
  • Let's start assembling. At the junction of the two inner sidewalls with the upper crossbars, slots are cut in the side parts of such a length and thickness that the upper part of the shelf fits into them.
  • In the remaining joints, two holes for confirmations are drilled on each side with a drill.

Connecting parts
  • The shelf elements are joined and fastened by screwing in the confirms until a slight crack appears when tightened.
  • The last crossbar of the shelf is inserted into the pre-cut grooves. At the point of contact with the outer sidewalls, it is fixed with confirmations.
  • Finally, the fastener heads are masked with decorative plugs and the shelf is hung in the chosen location. Suitable hangers can be purchased at the market or at a hardware store.

Corner shelves for icons

Most Orthodox people keep icons in their homes. A special place is required to place them; traditionally, icons are placed in the corner of the house facing east. A corner shelf, especially a wooden one, is perfect for these purposes.

Simple single-tier shelf for icons

Making a shelf for icons does not require special skills; difficulties arise only if you want to decorate it with openwork carvings or balusters. But you can do without such finishing or purchase the necessary parts from professional wood carvers. We will look at creating a simple single-tier shelf.

Natural wood looks more noble than substitutes, so it’s worth choosing it. Suitable materials include solid wood and wide planed boards. The first step is to outline the outline and cut out a corner that will become the basis of the structure and a cornice - a narrow strip attached to the front of the shelf.

Preparation and assembly of the structure

If desired, the cornice is made curly - wavy at the bottom. The connection between the cornice and the shelf is made using dowels (protruding wooden pins). To do this, 2-3 cm recesses are drilled in a triangular fragment and dowels are placed inside them so that they protrude outward by 1 cm.

Then the places opposite the dowels are marked on the cornice and holes are drilled to allow the two parts to be tightly connected. Before assembling, it is recommended to sand the shelf components and varnish them. Finished product is equipped with four hangers (two on each side) and is attached to the wall. Interestingly, if you place the same structure lower, you will get an original shelf for a telephone on the wall.

Corner shelves in the bathroom

Glass shelf for bathroom

The bathroom is the place that needs saving space more than others, because the rooms for taking water procedures Most apartments cannot be called spacious. Therefore, it is more rational to use corner structures for storing things. It is clear that a corner shelf on a wall made of wood or chipboard is not best solution for the bathroom, because high humidity will quickly destroy the material, which is prone to rotting. In this situation, it is more appropriate to use products made of plastic or glass, which are resistant to moisture and can be easily treated with disinfectants.

Such shelves are available in abundance in any plumbing store, but if you like to make things with your own hands and want to get an original item, adapted to your tastes and needs, you can make them yourself. Let's look at how to properly make a shelf for a bathroom using a glass structure as an example.

Tools you should prepare:

  • drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • screws and dowels;
  • tape measure and pencil;
  • building level.

You will also need shelf holders (available at hardware stores) and tempered glass no thinner than 5 mm. First you need to think about the design of the product, take measurements at the location where it will be placed and draw a template. Then the parts are cut out of the glass. It is recommended to order this procedure from a glass workshop, this way the shelf will look more aesthetically pleasing, and you will protect yourself from injuries and possible damage to the material.

The next stage of work is to attach the finished parts to the wall. To do this, the holders are put on and fixed on the shelf, it is brought to the wall and in in the right place places for dowels are marked. Using a drill (with a special drill) according to the marks, checking the level, holes are drilled and fasteners are inserted into them. Then all that remains is to hang the structure and make sure that it is securely fastened.

Corner shelves for books

Owners of a large library are familiar with the problem of convenience, when they want to place their favorite publications in immediate access without cluttering the room with cabinets and shelving. There is a way out. How to make classic ones wooden shelves We already told you, but there is another option corner design ideal for storing books. Because of unusual design it will not take root in every home, but for lovers non-standard solutions you'll definitely like it.

Roomy bookshelf from pipes

Corner wall shelf made from scraps water pipes will compactly place your books and will cost very little. You will need pipes, carbon fittings, dowels, self-tapping screws, paint and tools - an angle grinder, a gas wrench, a vice, a welding machine.

The shelf is assembled as follows - the pipes are cut into fragments (in this case 15 pieces), connected with fittings and welded. If welding machine no, you can get by with screws by screwing them in at the junctions of pipes and fittings. The structure is fixed to the wall at the top and bottom points using dowels previously driven into the wall.

It is advisable to paint the finished product (spray paint will do) to hide defects, welding marks and differences in the color of parts. The resulting octagonal shelf will easily fit into modern interior apartments and organize your library.

In any room there is a free corner in which you can place a shelf. It will not only become a design element, but will also create additional space for storing books, toys, small kitchen utensils, etc.

A suitable option can be selected in the store or ordered. But it’s better not to spend money, since making corner shelves with your own hands is no worse than factory ones.

Shelf materials

Before starting work, you should decide on the material in accordance with the conditions and interior of the room. Corner shelves are made from the following materials:

  • Solid wood or boards. Scraps remaining after repairs will do.
  • Chipboard and MDF boards. Pieces of suitable size can be purchased inexpensively on the market.
  • Multilayer plywood.
  • Glass with a thickness of at least 5 mm.
  • Plastic.
  • Window sill profile.
  • Metal.

The first 3 options are the most popular, so to work with them the right tool every home craftsman can find it.

However, there will be no difficulties with others if special operations are performed (for example, figure cutting glass) order in the workshop.

Living room shelves

Wall-mounted corner shelves for this room are usually made of wood or its substitutes (plywood, chipboard, MDF). A circle is drawn on the material using a compass. required size, then it is divided into 4 equal parts, which are cut out with a hacksaw.

To obtain smooth edges, it is better to use a jigsaw. All 4 sectors can be used to create a multi-tier shelf. You can just saw off the corner the right size from the material, but then the leading edge will not be semicircular.

To install in a corner, it is necessary to make slats with grooves. They are fixed to the wall using glue, dowels or self-tapping screws. Then the shelf is inserted into the grooves without additional fastening. Its edges are covered with decorative tape.

A rectangular shelf in the form of a snake looks original, the tiers of which are alternately attached to adjacent walls.

Kitchen shelves

They can be made from various materials, but traditionally wood or fiberboard is chosen. Unlike living room shelves, these have an extended rectangular shape with curly sidewalls, located at an angle on adjacent walls. You can come up with the shape of the sidewalls yourself or look it up on the Internet.

A do-it-yourself corner shelf for the kitchen from fiberboard or MDF is made in the following sequence:

  • After measuring the free space, a drawing is drawn up.
  • The sides are cut out with a jigsaw. The chipped areas are cleaned with sandpaper. The sections are covered with decorative tape.
  • Then horizontal rectangular crossbars are cut out that will connect the sidewalls. The outer sections are rounded and covered with tape.
  • Before assembly, through slots are made in the sidewalls located closer to the corner to the size of the upper crossbars.
  • On the sidewalls, in the places where they are attached to the crossbars, you need to drill a couple of holes for furniture screws.
  • The prepared parts are fastened with screws. Lastly, the top crossbar is inserted into the slot, securing it with screws to the outer sidewall.
  • The finished two-tier shelf is mounted on the wall using hangers purchased in a store or market.

Shelf for iconostasis

According to tradition, such a single-tier shelf is placed in the eastern corner of the house. To make it, a solid wood or wide board is selected.

If the corner shelf for icons is not decorated with carvings, then the process of its manufacture is no different from a shelf for the living room. But unlike it, a cornice in the form of a narrow strip should be installed on the front part. It is often made curly.

The cornice is secured to the shelf with dowels (wooden pins). Holes are drilled under them in a triangle with a depth of 2-3 cm. After installation, they should protrude outward by 1 cm. After drilling holes on the cornice, it is secured to the dowels using glue.

Corner bathroom shelf

A bathroom is a room with high humidity, so a corner shelf made of wood will not last long. But glass and plastic will be just right.

When taking measurements, you need to take into account that the angle may not be right. Therefore, you should make a template from cardboard and cut out a shelf using it.

If you use glass, it is better to go to a workshop where any shape can be quickly cut out of it. For fastening the shelf, special holders are ideal, which are sold complete with dowels and screws. They are mounted on the walls and glass is inserted.

Metal book shelf

An original corner shelf can be made from sections of water pipes with minimal plumbing skills. Its shape is similar to a snake, the curves of which alternately extend onto adjacent walls.

Fragments of pipes of the required length are connected with corner fittings and welded. In the absence of welding, fastening is carried out using screws screwed into the joints of the fittings and pipes. The finished structure is painted and attached at the lower and upper points to dowels driven into the wall.

When making corner shelves from plasterboard and window sill profiles, depending on the expected load, they must be reinforced with wooden slats, metal profile, corners. Self-adhesive film is used for finishing.

A frame is required for mounting. You can come up with design and design options yourself. For inspiration, it’s useful to look at photos of do-it-yourself corner shelves on the Internet.

Photo of a beautiful do-it-yourself corner shelf

The corners in the room almost always remain unoccupied, and yet there is enough space there to place a small shelf, rack or hanging. From a design point of view, the angular arrangement provides some advantage, because such articulation of the walls expands the possibilities of using various structural configurations and the fasteners used. If you compare regular and corner shelves, you can immediately notice how much more diverse and attractive the latter look. Let's try to decorate our home with such a corner shelf.

The most popular materials for making shelves are wood, furniture board, MDF, laminated chipboard, etc. Sometimes shelves are made from improvised materials - laminate, plastic or even drywall. Let's not change traditions and use furniture board as a raw material. To work you will need a jigsaw, a drill, various fasteners, a tape measure and a pencil. First you need to make a sketch of the future shelf for clarity of work processes.

The shelf will be about 70 cm high with three sections. It will be fastened through the vertical elements using dowel-nails, and the parts will be connected to each other with confirmations.

The first thing you need to do is mark all the parts on the plate. This is usually done with a pencil, but if the slab has a dark surface, then the pencil mark will not be noticeable; in this case, you can use a knife. You need to use the blade, without pressing too hard, to draw it along the cut line, after which a thin, white, noticeable line will appear, along which it will be easy to cut.

You can use a jigsaw to cut out shelf elements. The saw blade must have a fine tooth and be designed for woodworking. The sawing speed regulator on the jigsaw should be set to the minimum value, and the mode selection knob should be set to “0”. To facilitate the assembly of the shelf, it is necessary to number the parts in the drawing, and then put the corresponding values on the structural elements themselves.

After all the parts are cut, you need to drill holes in them for connecting with confirmations. It's much easier to do this consistently. First you need to make holes in the shelf, and then drill through these holes corresponding to them in the supporting element. If there is no special drill for confirmations, then you need to use 3 conventional drills With different diameters– under the screw part, thickening and head of the Euroscrew.

Immediately at this stage you can make holes for attaching the shelf to the wall. It will be fastened with 6x80 mm dowel nails through the supporting elements. All holes must be countersunk, this is necessary so that the nail head is flush with the surface.

When all the parts have been cut, you can start decorating the edges. First, we clean all edges from dust and sawdust formed during sawing. Then apply to the ends edge tape and using a heated iron (it is advisable to take an old, unused one) glue it to open surfaces.
This type of trimming tape is produced standard width 1.8 mm, and the thickness of the furniture board is only 1.5 cm, so part of the tape remains superfluous and must be removed. We cut off the excess part of the edge using a regular wallpaper knife.

We clean the resulting edge with fine-grain sandpaper. You can close the ends with any other accessible method, for example, use decorative cord, braid, special paper or cardboard.
Now you need to assemble the shelf. We assemble in accordance with the numbered diagram. To tighten the confirmations, we use a hex wrench.
We try on the assembled structure in the place intended for it and mark the mounting points on the wall. For drilling in concrete or stone walls, we use a drill with a Pobedit tip. On the tip of the drill, you can mark in advance the drilling depth required for the prepared dowel. To prevent dust generated during drilling from flying around, you can glue a paper “pocket” to the wall under the work area.

After completing the drilling work, you need to insert the dowels into the holes and secure it through the corresponding elements of the shelf with screw nails, recessing the caps. This can be done with a hammer or a regular Phillips screwdriver.

You can decorate the open heads of fasteners using special plastic plugs of a suitable color.
Perhaps such a shelf will turn out to be too simple in appearance, but we made it from materials that often gather dust in our pantry or live out their days in the country. The design can be changed at your discretion, for example, the supporting elements can be made longer and then the shelves can be used as book shelves. Or choose a different outline of the end parts, in which case the shelf will acquire additional decorativeness. In any case, a hand-made item will serve as an example of the individual skill of the owners of the house.

Open corner shelves help make living and living spaces more functional. workspace, can serve as an effective detail of the overall interior solution. The question of how to make corner shelves or a corner rack with your own hands is approached based on the available free space and the planned design.

Options for corner shelves and open shelving with your own hands

The appearance of furniture is largely determined by the materials used in production. An open corner rack can be made from solid wood and chipboard, MDF and plywood, glass and metal. And in every version it's the same constructive solution will look different.

An open corner rack can radically change appearance when changing minor details.

Also, combinations of different contrasting colors can change an ordinary model beyond recognition.

How to make an open corner shelving step by step

First of all, you need to decide overall dimensions open shelving. As a rule, all models have an extremely laconic design and easily fit into the allocated space, supporting the overall interior design.
Open shelves can be mounted either on the shelving frame or directly on the wall. In the second case, in order to neatly and beautifully attach corner shelves to the wall with your own hands, you will need to purchase special holders for shelves - toucans (pelicans) or consoles of various configurations.

Also, a corner rack with shelves can be floor or wall mounted. In the first case, the design must include a base box. Usually I don’t make solid sidewalls all the way to the floor, so that the baseboard doesn’t interfere with moving the product close to the wall. After all, it is not always possible to cut it off; wiring is often “hidden” inside the hollow baseboard.

Let's look at an example of calculating the detailing and drawing up cutting maps for a corner rack with your own hands using the example of the first model.

Step 1. We draw the structure to scale, indicating the overall dimensions and numbering the parts. We are thinking about how the parts will be connected to each other. Since the rack will stand close to the walls, there is no point in using hidden fasteners in the form of dowels and eccentric couplers. If through holes on the bottom shelf, in the places where the base box is attached, they are also “confusing”; abandon the Euroscrews (confirmations) in favor of the corners.

Step 2. We paint the corner rack with our own hands in the form of detailing, and draw up cutting maps. The calculation is given for chipboard with a thickness of 16 mm. For materials of a different thickness, the shelf dimensions will be slightly different.

Step 3. After cutting the parts and designing the radii, we roll up the visible parts with melamine or PVC edges.

Step 4. According to the fastener marking specifications, we drill the parts for further assembly.

If you did everything correctly, the corner shelf will be assembled with your own hands as a “construction set”, like a regular serial product.
