How to make a chain saw from an angle grinder. How to make a compact table saw from a grinder. Required work items

A circular saw is one of the universal metalworking tools that is widely used in various fields economy, in metal and woodworking, furniture production and solving other problems. The main advantages of disk machines include ease of operation, high cutting speed and accuracy, as well as good maintainability and the ability to quickly replace the cutting disk. If you don't have a professional or household one at hand disk machine, you can make it yourself using a conventional angle grinder (angle grinder) or grinder.

How to make sawing machines from an angle grinder at home?

Self-production cutting machine based on an angle grinder justifies itself with economic point vision: for performing one-time household work (cutting logs, metal and wooden profiles, timber and corners, as well as ceramic tiles and other materials) it is unprofitable to buy expensive machine tools. Having basic skills in working with welding machines and other tools from a mechanic’s arsenal, you can easily make a circular, pendulum or chain saw with your own hands.

We invite you to familiarize yourself with detailed instructions, drawings and tips for making a saw from an angle grinder with your own hands in the video, where you will find many useful practical recommendations and gain important theoretical information for converting tools (photo instructions also complement the video for your convenience).

DIY circular saw from an angle grinder

A circular saw designed for simple but voluminous woodworking work - cutting timber, boards, lining, etc. - can be made quite simply on the basis of an ordinary grinder. It is recommended to take an angle grinder with a disk diameter of at least 125 mm to make the tool universal in use. You can make a circular grinder based on an angle grinder according to drawings or without using an old one kitchen table, as well as homemade frame structure made of metal or durable wood.

The main requirement for the base is the stability of the structure (it should not become loose) and a flat frame on which the grinder will be fixed. It is necessary to make a slot in it for the saw blade. The frame can be made of wood, chipboard, plywood, sheet metal, plexiglass and other solid materials with a thickness corresponding to the loads that will be placed on the structure during operation.

Since the drive of the circular saw from the grinder will be attached to the bottom of the table lid, it is better to make the lid hinged using strong hinges. Don't forget also about the guide bar - it can be made from a regular metal corner. In this case, the bar can be fixed or sliding. The most important part of making a circular saw is securing it securely to the frame. To do this, you can use strong self-tapping screws, and also make your own special brackets for fixing angle grinders on the table top.

Do-it-yourself pendulum saw from an angle grinder

Based on an angle grinder, you can also make a pendulum and mounting cutting saw for use at home. With its help, you can easily cut identical parts and blanks from wood and metal. The design of such a homemade machine is safer, because The cutting disc together with the grinder is attached above the tabletop. Such a grinder saw is made by hand according to drawings, and also with the experience and skills of a mechanic - it is done by eye due to the simplicity of its design.

Making a pendulum or mounting saw from an angle grinder is quite simple: the structure will consist of a frame, a pendulum and a mount for an angle grinder. The frame can be made from profile pipes, welding a frame from them and installing a platform made of sheet metal with a thickness of 3 mm on it. A metal bracket is attached to the platform for mounting pendulum saw and a stop for fixing the workpiece during cutting. The stop is best made in the form of a rotating protractor, which will allow you to conveniently set the angle between the part and the cutting saw blade.

It is also necessary to make a hole (cut) in the tabletop of the machine where the saw blade touches. The pendulum in this design is also made from metal profiles using welding (you can see the drawings below on the page). It must be secured on one side to the bracket, and on the other side, the mount for the angle grinder must be fixed to it. This T-shaped pendulum must have a movable joint to allow movement cutting disc while working. The connection can be made of a rolling bearing and bushing, as well as a rubber band or spring (to return the mechanism to its original position).

The attachment of the angle grinder to the pendulum is made in the form of a metal console with one or two brackets. The angle grinder is attached to one of them with bolts, and with the help of a second bracket in the form of a clamp, the angle grinder is held by the body. A miter saw is made using a similar principle, a video on the equipment of which you can watch here.

DIY chain saw from an angle grinder

The good thing about the two previous types of homemade machines is that, if necessary, the grinder can be dismantled and used in the usual way. In contrast, to make a chainsaw from an angle grinder, it will have to be permanently modified. It is also possible to make a chain saw from a grinder with your own hands, but compared to the two previous types of hand-made machines, it is a less practical and less safe device. If you have an old grinder that you don't mind modifying for a variety of cutting jobs, you can make a chainsaw out of it.

Such a saw may be needed on the farm for cutting branches and other wooden structures where it is difficult to reach with a regular saw. To make a chain saw, you will need a bracket for mounting a bar, which can be made from a metal profile. The saw chain is pulled onto it and the drive sprocket is screwed on. For this design, it is advisable to choose an angle grinder with an adjustable disk rotation speed. Now you know how to do cutting machine pendulum, circular and chain type from an angle grinder.

How to make a circular saw, miter saw, or hand-held power saw from a grinder with your own hands

Having the entire range of electric tools at home is too expensive. For example, a circular saw is rarely needed at home. Sawing boards can be done with a modernized grinder.

Hand power saw

A manual circular electric saw made from a grinder is obtained by replacing the standard cutting disc with a wood cutting disc.

True, this option is suitable for short cuts of sheet materials or cutting thin slats. When cutting long lengths or on thick bars, there is a danger of the disc skewing and jamming. It will be much easier to hold the saw if the handle is not positioned perpendicular to the axis of the tool, but is made an extension of the body.

Craftsmen also make a hand-held chain saw from a grinder. True, such a tool is dangerous for the user: the absence of a chain stopper can lead to unpredictable consequences. In addition, the chain is not lubricated, which leads to rapid wear.

Miter saw

Trimming, that is, cross-cutting boards or bars at right angles, turns out better if you use a special device.

You can also make such a machine from a grinder with your own hands.

  1. To do this, a grinder with a wood disk is mounted on a rotating bar perpendicular to the direction of the length of the board so that the plane of the disk is directed strictly vertically. One attachment point should be located in the area of the gearbox, and the second should be at the opposite end of the machine.
  2. The gearbox housing has threaded holes for attaching standard handles. Using the corners and these holes, the grinder must be attached to the moving part of the machine.
  3. The back of the body is attached to the board with a clamp. The blade guard can be used on any power tool of a suitable size.
  4. Closer to the vertical support you need to secure the thrust angle. It should be located strictly perpendicular to the plane of the disk, both in the vertical and horizontal directions.

The spring at the rear end of the bar serves to return miter saw to its original position after finishing the cut. The horizontal table must have a transverse groove into which the disk fits when cutting the board. The diameter of the disk is chosen based on the width of the boards. This way, trimming can be done in one go. The main thing is that the inner hole of the disk must coincide with the mount on the gearbox axis.

When working on such a machine, it should be taken into account that the drive power is not intended for heavy loads. Therefore, the rotating disk must be brought smoothly to the surface of the part being cut, and the cut must be made without strong pressure.

Table saw

Sometimes there is a need to change the width of the board or the thickness of the block. The best option for such work is a circular saw, especially if there are a lot of boards. Very useful for cutting boards of short length (1-2 m) desktop version circulars. It is not necessary to buy such a machine; you can make it yourself from the same grinder.

The design of a circular saw is much more complex cross-cutting machine. The contact time of the saw blade with the wood is quite long, therefore the reliability of fastening the grinder body to the frame should be higher.

This is what one of the options for a tabletop circular might look like.

The photo shows that the desktop consists of two planes:

  • the upper table is designed to advance the workpiece;
  • The lower one serves as a stop for the sander.

The disc passes through a groove in the top surface. If the angle of contact of the two planes is provided with rotary hinges, then it will be possible to adjust the working height of the saw blade to reduce the area of rubbing surfaces.

The head of the bolt with which the angle grinder is secured is clearly visible on the top surface of the table. The protruding bolt limits the width of the board being processed. You can cope with this problem by laying another layer of plywood.

Turning the angle grinder on and off using the key on the body is quite inconvenient. If the key can be fixed in the working position, then it is worth installing a socket with a switch on the outside of the machine.

The stop angle must have the maximum possible length to prevent the board from deviating from the cutting direction. It is better to fasten the corner in such a way that you can change the working distance between it and the disk: then the width of the cut part will also change.

Stationary circular

You can use a grinder as a working mechanism in stationary conditions. The bed in this case will have a slightly different design. The stationary option implies the presence of free space and a large amount of work. Therefore, the entire structure can be made more solid, more massive, and, therefore, more reliable.

The frame of the bed can be made from a corner using a welded joint. Bolted and other types of detachable fasteners lose their grip due to constant vibration, and the structure begins to wobble.

A desktop made of a wide board or thick plywood is attached to the top of the metal frame. The workpiece will move along it. The stop angle is equipped with a movable mount for adjusting the cutting width.

It would be nice to provide for adjusting the height of the table or the extension of the disk above its surface - then it will be possible to cut out longitudinal grooves in the board.

On the side of the machine there are controls: a socket and on/off buttons. In the stationary version, it makes sense to exclude the key on the body of the angle grinder from the diagram. If there is enough space, a high-power grinder can be used as a drive.

How to make a sawmill from an angle grinder is shown in this video:

The nuances of using a homemade circular saw

You should not lose sight of the fact that the grinder’s main purpose is as an angle grinder. Therefore, when using it as a homemade circular saw, you need to pay attention to the nuances.

  1. The duration of continuous cutting should not exceed 15-20 minutes to avoid overheating of the engine.
  2. The standard guard on the blade is not suitable for a circular saw. The protective casing can be used from a real circular saw or made independently.

It should be remembered that the rotation speed of the sander can be more than 10,000 revolutions per minute - this is several times higher than the speed of woodworking machines. At this speed, the wood begins to smoke. Except unpleasant odor, possible fire.

How to make a circular saw from an angle grinder? Step by step instructions

Many different problems can be solved using homemade circular from Bulgarian. Such a machine will become an indispensable assistant when renovating an apartment, making furniture and for many other men's affairs. You can buy a ready-made circular saw, or you can make it yourself.

You don't need to have any special skills to do this. It is enough to know how to use hand tools and have minimum required materials. Before we talk about how to make a circular saw from an angle grinder, let’s consider general design machine

DIY circular grinder: design

With all the variety of designs, any grinder made from a grinder, made with your own hands or bought in a store, consists of the main parts:

  • engine;
  • desktop;
  • bed;
  • disk;
  • gearbox

As an engine for a homemade machine, you can use several available options. Typically, such recommendations suggest using asynchronous motors, purchased specifically for the machine, a washing machine motor, a drill or an angle grinder. Each option has its own advantages and disadvantages.

If you buy a motor specifically, then you have the opportunity to select its parameters to suit your machine. This is where the advantages of this choice end and the disadvantages begin. The main disadvantage is the high cost of such a solution. Indeed, a motor is more expensive than a hand-held power tool. The cost of such a purchase is close to the cost of a finished machine.

The second option is a motor from a washing machine. This is what those who have unnecessary equipment with a working engine do. Not any washing machine is suitable for a homemade machine. Many modern automatic cars have a motor that requires a special controller to control.

Of course, you can build your own controller, but this will significantly complicate the work. Engines from old ones washing machines They are easy to connect, and often a pulley is already installed on their shaft. This greatly simplifies the work of creating the machine. The disadvantage of such engines is low power. The machine that can be manufactured will turn out to be more of a model of a machine than an actual working tool. However, for some problems this solution is also suitable.

Using a drill you can make a mini-circular

As a rule, drills have low speed and high power. The saw blade can be driven directly by clamping its axis into the drill chuck. The disadvantage of this scheme is the need to take breaks during work. As a rule, drills are not designed for continuous operation and require stopping for 15 minutes every 5-10 minutes of operation. This problem can be partially solved by installing additional engine ventilation, but this will make the design of the machine much more complicated.

Using an angle grinder, or in other words, an angle grinder, is free from many known disadvantages. First of all, the grinder’s engine has high power. Many people have this tool, and if not, then purchasing it will be useful. Using an angle grinder as a machine engine does not deprive you of the opportunity to sometimes use it for its intended purpose. Integrating the grinder into the machine is simple.

Often, the angle grinder comes with special clamps that can be used to quickly secure it to the frame. A pulley is easily installed on the tool shaft, driving the machine disk. Thanks to the high engine speed, it is well ventilated by the built-in cooling system and is able to work for a long time without interruption.

Making a circular saw from a grinder is not difficult. This does not require special knowledge or special skills. All you have to do is show a little creativity and do all the work carefully. Before you start making a machine, you need to weigh all the arguments and decide exactly why it is needed. It should be understood that despite the possibility of long-term continuous operation, due to sometimes high loads, the angle grinder may fail.

If you plan to open own production furniture or manufacturing wooden products in industrial quantities - the best solution there will be a purchase of a finished machine. A homemade machine is only suitable for home use, as a tool for solving small everyday problems at home, in the country or in the garage.

What will you need?

The simplest circular saw from a grinder, made by yourself, is a metal table with wooden surface and guides on which the motor, disk and disk drive system are mounted. The frame or frame of this table must be made from a metal corner.

It should be strong enough. You don't have to make it heavy. Stability during operation can be ensured with the help of special fixing elements that secure the machine to the floor or other stable surface. The unit can be made without preliminary drawings. The main thing is to adhere to the recommendations written below and have a minimum builder skill.

The working surface of the machine is made of MDF or plywood. Plywood with a thickness of 9 or 12 mm is best. There are two options for the disk drive device.

The first and easiest is to put the disc in the regular place of the grinder. That is, just choose a disk that is suitable for use at high speeds. It should not be forgotten that conventional wood cutting discs are designed for a lower speed. In addition, the diameter of the disk matters.

When sawing wood, higher loads occur than when working with an abrasive disc.

In order not to overload the engine, you should choose a disk with a smaller diameter than the one that is usually installed on the angle grinder.

The second option is a little more complicated. If you use a belt drive, you can reduce the rotation speed of the disk and increase the torque. In this case, it becomes possible to create a full-fledged machine. If you use several pulleys, you get a machine with a variable transmission ratio. Such a machine can work with different disks and can easily cope with any materials from wood to sheet metal.

IN homemade machine The grinder is attached not to the working surface, but to the bed. The power tool must be secured firmly enough. This should not be done using plastic ties or clamps and screws. However, in reality simple version You can use anything, even simple tape. The main thing is never to turn on such a machine, because the resulting vibrations will quickly destroy the mount, and high rotation speeds combined with high power can cause serious harm to health.

For reliable fastening, you need to use the clamps that come with some angle grinders or tighten the grinder to the frame with homemade clamps using screws and nuts. All threaded connections must be secured with a fastener.

You can purchase a thread locker at any auto parts store. To fasten the angle grinder, you must use a temporary clamp, and to fasten other parts of the machine, use a permanent clamp.

An important part of the working surface of the table is the stop bar. It is installed parallel to the plane of the disk.

The easiest way is to make a stop bar from an iron or aluminum corner. The stop bar must be movable. For this purpose, the corner is attached not to the working surface, but to another plywood plate. In turn, the plate is located on the work table. To fix it, you can use clamps purchased at a hardware store and building materials. The design of the frame is easy to come up with on your own.

The main requirement for it is the simplicity of the arrangement of all machine elements in it. After the work surface is attached to the bed and the grinder is secured, you need to mark the slot for the disk. You can do this with inside machine After the marks are made, the surface is removed and the slot is marked using a ruler and a corner. You can cut the surface along the marked lines using the same grinder.

Important! You cannot put a disc on the grinder for sawing wood. The fact is that he will almost certainly rip the power tool out of his hands. It is almost impossible to hold an angle grinder with such a disc in your hands.

You can also saw through plywood using a regular abrasive disc. If you don’t make an effort, it will be completely harmless for the grinder. The only drawback is large number smoke. These cuts should not be made while at home.

Plastic ties are useful for fastening the wire from the angle grinder to the frame. As a switch, you can use an extension cord with a power button built into it. The extension cord is also attached to the frame so that the button is within reach and convenient location.

You should not neglect your safety. There is one part of the machine that is simply necessary, but almost everyone does without it. This is a protective visor over the disk. You can make it from plywood, in the form of a narrow box and secure it with furniture hinges so that it reclines. If you do not make such simple protection, the risk of losing several fingers increases significantly.

Additional Security Measures

The presence of a powerful engine and working parts moving at high speed poses a serious danger to both the person operating the machine and those nearby. The point is not only that it is easy to cut yourself on the sharp teeth of the disc. If you work carelessly, the workpiece can break out of your hands and turn into a flying projectile. Myself saw blade may also collapse. The disk fragments fly apart at high speed and represent mortal danger. In order to minimize risks, when creating a machine you must follow several mandatory rules:

  1. The switch must not be placed on the working surface of the table. It must be placed on the side surface.
  2. Must be done protective cover.
  3. Do not turn on the machine without securing it securely to the floor.

Gearbox or disc drive system

As already noted, the speed of the grinder significantly exceeds the permissible speed of the circular saw blade.

If you connect the disk directly to the angle grinder shaft, then of course it will not fall apart from centrifugal loads, but it will become dull much faster and not work in normal mode.

All this together will lead to rapid failure of the grinder’s disc and engine. For reliable operation, a system of pulleys and a belt is needed. One pulley is installed on the grinder shaft, the other on the saw blade shaft. The grinder produces 9-11 thousand revolutions per minute. The disk should rotate at a speed of 6500 -7200 rpm.

For effective and safe work On a circular machine, you should carefully select the discs. They must meet certain standards.

The ratio of the disk diameters must be equal to the ratio of these speeds. Dividing one by the other, we get a coefficient of 0.7. Therefore, two disks are needed, the diameter of one should be 0.7 of the diameter of the other. The smaller of these discs needs to be placed on the angle grinder shaft, and the larger one on the disc shaft. Wheels and belt can be purchased at an auto parts store. When using a belt drive, you need to make a tension system. The easiest way to do this is as follows: rigidly fasten the angle grinder to the frame, and work surface Attach it together with the disk shaft after installing the belt, tensioning it in place.

The overall layout of the machine must meet the following requirements:

  • The workpieces being processed are fed from right to left, and vice versa for left-handed people;
  • The power button is located on the front side of the machine;
  • It is necessary to work on the machine and position it so that no one is in the plane of the rotating disk.

Do-it-yourself power saw from a grinder - manufacturing options

Circular electric saws are extremely necessary tools For household. Thanks to their technical and functional properties, today no one can do without them. furniture production or carpentry shop. And in private households there are many problems that would be more expedient to solve with their participation. The only thing that limits their use today is their cost, which is growing every year, as is the human need for them. One of the ways to overcome this barrier and acquire such a universal assistant is to assemble a homemade circular saw,

Considering the load and operating cycle of electric saws, for them home production you will need an equally reliable basic electrical appliance. Craftsmen advise using a grinder or an angle grinder, which almost everyone has. Its traction potential will be sufficient for sawing wood, cutting beams into slats and other tasks that most users set for it. Let's look at several ways to make an electric saw from a grinder at home.

DIY circular saw: the easiest way to make it

In order to start assembling a homemade product, you will need:

  • metal clamps;
  • electric drill;
  • toothed disc;
  • several pieces of metal corner;
  • bolt ties modifications M3 or M5;
  • working gearbox;
  • rods made of high-strength steel;
  • spanner.

The power base of the future design will be the engine from a household grinder.

Work progress step by step

  1. the previously installed disk is first removed from the grinder;
  2. Take a disk with teeth for woodworking, which is tightened with corners. A gap of several millimeters is left, which is adjusted using a bolt tie;
  3. The body of the grinder - the future electric saw - is covered with clamps. A double metal strip with a thickness of at least 1.5 mm is passed through the bottom of the tool;
  4. The grinder gearbox is pre-disassembled. You need to make holes in it to attach the handle. The last part can be made of a metal tube, the shape of which should be slightly rounded;
  5. to adjust the gaps between the side stop and the base surface, 4 holes are drilled in the gearbox for screwing in bolts;
  6. The handle is bolted to the gearbox. Its end protruding outside the electric saw is given a horizontal position, holes are drilled and the axis is fed. If the handle is D-shaped, an adapter is installed between the handle and the gearbox - a tube made of thick-walled metal;
  7. the rods are cut into 6 cm pieces, which are given a loop shape;
  8. washers are fixed in front of the stop, thereby correcting the gap;
  9. the handle is connected to the body with an electric motor.

By supplementing such an electric saw from a grinder with your own hands with a stationary base made of chipboard or stable plywood, you can make a stationary circular electric saw for a workbench or desktop.

In both options, it is very important not to make a mistake with the choice of disk and to correctly calculate the gear ratio. It is advisable to focus on single-phase asynchronous motors, which are equipped with most angle grinders. Three-phase motor systems, which can also take place in a similar design, should not be used without additional capacitors. A separate button can be used as a starting capacitor. In this option, you will need to consider additional grounding and check the electrical safety of the homemade product.

Electric chain saw from an angle grinder: step-by-step instructions

In order to recreate a chain saw based on a working grinder, we will need:

  • Bulgarian herself;
  • drive sprocket, which is best to buy new, but if you have a working spare part from an old saw, you can limit yourself to the used option;
  • metal to create a bracket to which the guide will be connected;
  • a set of saw sets consisting of a bar and chain;
  • a set of tools, including a drill;
  • bolts.

The build process looks like this:

    1. unscrew the saw blade from the grinder;
    2. make holes in the bottom of the metal casing of the device;
    3. bolt the bracket to the protective shield;

    1. a sprocket is screwed onto the motor shaft;

  1. a guide is secured behind the bracket ties;
  2. After the chain is put on and straightened, the bracket bolts are tightly fixed.

After this you can start working.

Advantages and disadvantages of homemade electric saws from an angle grinder

Electric saws, which today can not only be bought in a store, but also made at home, in addition to their main advantage - low cost of their production, have a lot of weaknesses. Namely:

  • low level of safety for the health and life of the operator working - in homemade products there is no protection against kickback, which in factory electric saws is taken over by the inertial chain brake. And this increases the likelihood of injury and injury;
  • fragility of tire-chain elements due to the lack of automatic lubrication. The only way out in this situation is to periodically dip a homemade saw into a container of chain oil;
  • high risk of motor overheating from an angle grinder due to overloads and prolonged use.

Greetings to all hobbyists, today we will look at how to make an electric hacksaw based on a grinder. The homemade product is easy to assemble and does not require complex manufacturing machines. The tool works great, the author easily cuts bars, boards and even logs with a hacksaw. The machine works due to the fact that the rotational movements of the grinder shaft turn into reciprocating movements of the hacksaw. The design of the grinder does not change; the homemade product is only an attachment for the grinder. If you are interested in a similar project, I suggest you study it in more detail!

Materials and tools used

List of materials:
- old hacksaw;
- piece iron pipe;
- sheet iron;
- bolts and nuts;
- one bearing;
- paint for metal.

List of tools:
- drill;
- files;
- welding machine;
- drilling machine;
- Bulgarian;
- caliper;
- marker, tape measure.

Homemade manufacturing process:

Step one. Hacksaw
First of all, we need a hacksaw, it will do old instrument, but it will need to be sharpened. Remove the handle from the hacksaw; it will not be needed. If desired, the hacksaw blade can be significantly shortened, since its stroke will be small.

Step two. Eccentric
The homemade product works thanks to the eccentric, which is installed on the angle grinder shaft. As a part, we will need a ball bearing and a piece of bolt, from which the author machined a suitable pin. We install the bearing on the shaft so that it is offset, securely fasten it with nuts and washers. As a result, when such a bearing rotates, it will move the hacksaw blade back and forth.

Step three. Clamp
Next we have to make a clamp, it will also act as a base on which all the nodes will be fixed. Here we need a piece of iron pipe, its internal diameter should coincide with the part of the grinder to which the shield is attached. We cut off a piece of the required length and make a cut around the workpiece. Next, a cut is made across the cut and two nuts are welded together, one with a thread, the other without. As a result, we get an excellent clamp that can be tightened on the angle grinder with a screw or bolt.

Step four. Hacksaw blade
Let's prepare the hacksaw tightly; we need to drill a hole in it of such a diameter that it will fit the bearing installed on the angle grinder shaft. The author drilled a hole on drilling machine step drill.

Step five. Frame
Almost all the parts are ready, all that remains is to make the frame, here we will need sheet iron. We cut out two plates and drill a hole in one according to the diameter of the clamp, weld this part to the clamp, this will be the base.

You also need to drill holes in both plates for the bolts that will hold the plates together. The bolts need to be welded to the base.

At the end, all that remains is to modify the hacksaw blade, drill 4 holes in it in the places where the connecting bolts are located. The holes need to be bored with a file to an oval shape. As a result, the bolts will serve as guides that will hold the hacksaw blade.

Step six. Painting and assembly
We paint all the parts so that the homemade product does not rust and looks good. Well, then everything can be assembled, install the base and eccentric, and then all that remains is to install the hacksaw blade and the upper part of the frame. The homemade product is ready, you can test it, but don’t forget to lubricate everything well! The tool cuts bars, and even logs. Of course, the productivity of the saw is not very high, since the stroke of the hacksaw is too small.

In general, the homemade product deserves attention, since everything is done quite simply. This is the end of the project, I hope you liked it and found new ideas for yourself. Good luck and creative inspiration if you decide to do this again. Don't forget to share your ideas and crafts with us!

You can meet different opinions users regarding modifications and installation of various devices on the main tool to expand its functionality. And if quite loyal opinions are expressed regarding some homemade products, then the views regarding the creation of a chain saw from an angle grinder are sharply opposite.

One group of equipment owners welcomes the installation of various adapters on an angle grinder and turning it into a chain saw. Significant savings come to the fore cash when creating homemade products. Many people believe that it is quite possible to make a universal, effective tool with your own hands.

Another group considers such transformations not only unnecessary, but also dangerous to the life and health of the operator.

In reviews and comments to video reports, you can also find rather ironic remarks: “Aren’t there such wonderful devices for a smartphone to cut firewood in the forest on a picnic?” or sharp wishes, send an insurance policy along with the factory nozzle.

Therefore, in order for our readers to understand in detail and decide for themselves the real need to remake a chain saw from an angle grinder with their own hands, we will tell you about the attachments and homemade ways creating a chain saw from a grinder, advantages and disadvantages, the feasibility of such transformations.

Adapter-attachment “Chainsaw” for an angle grinder

Adapter for grinder

The brainchild of Chinese design thought CHAIN SAW, the “Chainsaw” attachment can be ordered on AliExpress together with the Chinese grinder or separately. The standard package consists of: instructions in the form of illustrations, chains (can be different sizes), guide bar, sprocket, fastening the bar to the angle grinder and other fasteners, handle, set of keys, oiler, chain protection.

In order to install the adapter on the grinder, first remove the flange from it and install the sprocket from the kit and secure it well with a nut. The base unit is fixed with a tie on the gearbox, then with screws on both sides.

Then a guide bar with a chain, a hand guard and a protective casing, and a handle are installed. Be sure to check the chain tension and lubricate it with oil. The installation of a device for converting an angle grinder into a chainsaw can be seen in the video:

Compared to the Makita electric chain saw, the CHAIN SAW grinder chain saw looks quite tiny.

According to owner reviews, similar device It works quite normally, copes with sawing thin boards, logs, timber up to 10 cm. If you do not have a full-fledged chain saw, the device can easily replace it. However, the operation of such equipment can be dangerous, so the pros and cons should be carefully assessed.

Disadvantages and caveats of converting a chain saw from an angle grinder using an adapter

  • An electric chain saw is a highly dangerous tool; ignoring safety precautions when using it can be fraught with serious consequences for the health of the operator and others.
  • The structure that is formed after installing the chain saw attachment on the grinder does not meet safety requirements.
  • The base unit is made of an alloy whose composition is not specified by the manufacturer, therefore technical specifications it is not known, one cannot count on a certain motor resource.
  • Due to the lack of a rational chain lubrication system, unusual dangerous situations are possible.
  • The location of the switch in the adapter is inappropriate.
  • There is no blocking for accidental activation of an electric chain saw from an angle grinder.

Homemade electric saw from a grinder

Some craftsmen decide to convert standard equipment into what they believe is more functional.

DIY circular saw from an angle grinder

To convert an angle grinder into a circular saw, you will need a saw blade, bolt ties, a gearbox, a metal angle, steel rods, metal clamps, and a set of tools. Before assembling the device, it is advisable to make drawings and calculate the gear ratio taking into account the parameters of the gear disk.

The grinder's engine will become the power plant for the created circular saw. First, remove the disc from the angle grinder. The new toothed disc is tightened metal corner. The body of the angle grinder itself is covered with clamps, and from below - with a double strong metal tape.

Next, a hole is made in the gearbox to install the handle mount and grooves for the bolts are drilled in four places. The metal rods are shaped into 6 cm loops, then the handle is attached to the body along with the electric motor. Sometimes such a saw is installed on a base made of plywood or chipboard to create a stationary circular saw.

How to make a circular saw from a grinder with a power of 2.4 kW, you can watch the video:

Grinder chain saw

For homemade products you will need a saw set (chain + bar), a sprocket, a set of bolts, metal profile, tools. First, remove the disc from the grinder and screw the prepared bracket onto the shield. Install the sprocket on the motor shaft. The guide is then installed behind the bracket ties. Install the chain and adjust its tension.

The video report presents a step-by-step diagram of the creation of an electric saw from an angle grinder.

Pros and cons of a homemade grinder saw

When developing technology, designers, along with functionality and high performance characteristics, pay great attention to tool safety. IN homemade devices folk craftsmen do not always adhere to this rule, since the usual cost savings often come to the fore. And all the advantages are mainly limited to this low cost.

However, in addition to the low cost of homemade products, upon closer examination, homemade electric saws from an angle grinder have many disadvantages, both technically and in terms of safety.

  • The fragility of the design due to the lack of a lubrication system.
  • High probability of electric motor overheating due to unbalanced loads.
  • An extremely low level of protection and safety when operating a grinder saw.

Do-it-yourself electric chain saw from a grinder

Owner reviews

Vasily:

“Of course, when remaking a saw from an angle grinder with your own hands, you can’t assume that this is a full-fledged replacement, for example, of a Makitovo saw. For example, I had to urgently convert the angle grinder into an electric saw, because I urgently needed to saw through the boards, and the chainsaw burned out. While I was working, I played it safe a hundred times so that everything would be fine.”

Victor:

“Factory equipment is created over the years, tested on stands, under different conditions. The protection is installed with the “fool” in mind, but here we have such a device with crazy speeds and no brake, no lubrication, no basic protection. In my opinion, it is better to buy a normal tool or not work at all.

Advantages: cheap, you can do it yourself.

Disadvantages: hazardous to health."

Hello everyone,

Due to the fact that I am somewhat obsessed with tools in all their forms, I could not calmly pass by this “unknown little animal,” namely a small angle grinder (“grinder”) complete with a device that turns it into a chain saw. There will be no dismemberment, but I guarantee fun :). Great review with gifs.

The author did not strive to win the Darwin Award, so there were big doubts whether to take the instrument for review or not, however, an inquisitive mind and an awl... curiosity prevailed. Let's see what happened.
Looking ahead, I’ll say that everything ended well :)
Disclaimer: In this review I will not recommend buying this product, this is just a review of the product.
So, in order...
The parcel that arrived was quite impressive in size:

Inside were two more boxes with a grinder and a chain saw:

Bulgarian

Equipment:
- Bulgarian,
- handle,
- protection,
- key,
- instructions (in Chinese),
- adapter for European socket,
- peeling disc.
The disk, unfortunately, either from old age or during transportation, collapsed and its small pieces spread throughout the parcel.
The tool itself:

Specifications:
- speed: 10500 rpm
- power: 680W
- external disc diameter: 100mm
- shaft diameter: M10
- disk mounting hole: 16mm

Discs of size 100x16mm are not sold here, so you need to order them in China: cutting, roughing, etc.

Dimensions:

Weight:

Shaft, flange and nut. Size M10 differs from our common M14:

On the gearbox:

Shaft lock button when installing the disk and location of holes for the handle:

Everything is fine with ventilation:

But this fiasco is the only switch of the grinder. Well, that is, there is absolutely only one, non-fixed trigger under index finger or at least there is no switch. The switch is located in the back of the angle grinder, next to the power cord, well at least it has a long lever:

IMHO, this is really dangerous with such power and speed!

Guard and handle:

Wire 170cm with Chinese plug:

Assembled:

In general, the grinder is a typical representative of the Chinese industry... TB? no, we haven’t heard...

Chainsaw attachment

A “masterpiece” of engineering...

All instructions on the box:

Inside:

Equipment:
- guide rail with fastening to the grinder,
- chain,
- an asterisk on the grinder shaft,
- handle,
- a set of keys and fasteners,
- bottle for oil,
- protective shield,
- instructions.

Chain in a separate bag:

Next I’ll tell you about the elements of the “device”, installing them on the grinder.
We remove the grinder flange and in its place put an asterisk responsible for moving the chain:

We fix it with a nut from the grinder kit and take a block base for the tire (so to speak, the support of the entire structure):

The material of the base block is some kind of casting (very similar to cast silumin), the casting quality is so-so, but there are stiffening ribs.
The design includes a chain tension screw:

Included with mounting hardware:

It is fixed on the gearbox with a tie on a special recess to avoid jumping off:

We tighten it with screws on both sides, it is fixed firmly, there is no play:

Take the guide bar:

We install it, together with the chain, on the base (naturally, we first install the chain incorrectly, then we remember how it should be and correct it):

We remember that we forgot to put plastic casing and hand protection and install them. Steel protection:

Installing the handle:

We tighten the chain using the tension screw:

Checking the tension:

Something like this:

Complete tool weight 2.7kg:

Total length about 63cm:

The assembly of the unit, if you already know how, takes about 15 minutes, but the initial assembly took me about 30 minutes.
And also, we pretend that we are pouring oil:

Complete “oil can”. It seems that the manufacturer remembered the need to lubricate the chain at the very last moment, because... containers for any small amount of oil are not provided in the design. The oil is poured through a tiny hole, and I have highlighted where it is “stored” with a red oval:

Disassembly

Removing the gearbox:

There is an interesting washer between the gearbox and the housing:

Drive gear:

There is quite a lot of green grease in the gearbox itself:

Rotor:

The rear bearing has a rubber damper against vibration:

The stator is embedded in the housing:

Brushes and mechanism for pressing them to the rotor:

Testing

No matter how long I delayed this moment, the design was assembled, it needed to be tested and, to be honest, I was really afraid to turn it on, given the lack of a non-locking trigger. Just as a sapper hides behind a parapet during an explosion, so I carried out the first start-up from a safe shelter (hid behind a wall) with the saw installed in the center of the workbench so that it would not have time to “get” anywhere.

I turned it on by briefly plugging the plug into the socket and... it started working without cutting anything in its surroundings.
Encouraged by this, I began field testing...

Since the capabilities of the saw were unknown, I started with a simple one - a piece of wooden door casing about 1cm thick:

Like paper:

Two-centimeter board:

Instantly:

Board 4.5cm, just a little longer:

Obliquely it also turns out:

“Added” oil:

Birch wood (simulating a log):

Beam 10cm (it takes exactly 10 seconds to cut):

Total, approximately 8 minutes:

To say that I am surprised is to say nothing...

During the work, the fear of the device generally went away (and I won’t say that this is good), nothing was loose, the design was rigid.

Impressions

Epic Tin in its original form. This is probably the most controversial product I have reviewed. Surprisingly, the “little animal” saws and saws very well, besides, it turned out to be quite convenient to work with... The cutting speed turned out to be unexpectedly high (you can see it in the video), the chain was normal and sharpened, the power was more than enough to foolishly. I expected that the device, due to the high speed of the angle grinder, would behave somehow inappropriately - vibrate, twitch, or push the tire with the chain out of the wood, but there is nothing like that, and when compared with the normal one chain saw(“Makita”), I did not feel any significant differences in the work; on the contrary, it was easier to saw (perhaps the reason was the narrower bar and chain). On the other hand, ignoring safety precautions. A chain saw is a tool of increased danger and such a design, even with a protective shield included, does not cause optimism, also taking into account the cast, made of unknown metal, base unit, the switch is in a completely inadequate place, as well as the lack of a full-fledged lubrication system (although, “ you don’t need to bury the oil very often, I did it once during testing), there is still no foolproof lock, and there is no trigger for the finger. Will I use it in the future? I doubt it, only if it is really necessary and there is no normal tool at hand.
Video (I think many will wipe away a stingy man’s tear, remembering where the music comes from:)

Top 10 attachments for power tools from AliExpress (scissors, chain saw, pump, extractors and others)

Metal scissors attachment:

Quite an interesting attachment that allows you to cut metal up to 1.8mm thick. The lot description shows the device. Can be used with both a drill and a screwdriver.

Reciprocating saw attachment:

A convenient attachment for those who are too lazy to cut wood or metal by hand. Delivery from Moscow is available. There are also several lots to choose from, I recommend purchasing additional consumables.

Reciprocating saw attachment (with handle):

Another option, but with a side handle. You can clamp a small file instead of a blade. Shurik should preferably be powerful (16V or 21V).

Attachment “chainsaw for angle grinders (grinders)”:

A modified model of a chain saw for angle grinders (grinders), which has become safer and is equipped with an oil pump, which is why the chain bar no longer gets hot. It is inexpensive, so if there is no opportunity or desire to buy a chainsaw, this option great choice. You don’t have to worry about finding gasoline or servicing, and they’re not as noisy as chainsaws.

Attachment “sanding belt for angle grinders (grinders)”:

The device is the simplest, there are adjustments for the tape tension. There is also a bell for construction vacuum cleaner, which is very convenient. The only negative is that the sanding belt is narrow, but for infrequent use works will do. There are attachments for both 100mm grinders and standard 125mm ones.

Attachment “chain saw for angle grinder (dangerous)”:

A miracle of Chinese engineering. Analogue circular saws, only instead of a cutting blade there is a chain saw. There seems to be no protection, and there seems to be no chain lubrication either. But more than three thousand orders! The price tag is seven bucks, you can take it to try.

Twist drill bit attachment:

Very convenient drill bit for drilling large holes in sheet metal. The main advantage of cone drills is speed of operation and self-sufficiency, because no need to rearrange drills. Unlike conventional tapers, the spiral groove allows for efficient chip removal. I have both of them, but I prefer conical-spiral drills. For experiments, I recommend purchasing regular cone drills (link #2).

Minipump screwdriver attachment:

It went on sale relatively recently. Allows you to quickly pump or pump water. It is very helpful in areas where there is no electricity and it is not possible to connect an electric pump. Judging by the reviews, the productivity is 1-1.5 liters per second. I couldn’t resist and ordered it, let’s see what kind of beast it is. I’ll try to install it on a “neglected” well, where the drum is completely dry and there is nothing to replace it with, but I need to pump water.

Attachment “automatic screw feeder”:

Simply an irreplaceable thing for builders and finishers, especially those who work on drywall. Thread the screws and go! It's inexpensive.

"Ballerina on wood" attachment:

Quite an ordinary “ballerina” for drilling large holes. I had a similar one somewhere, but the tiles were quite normal. Unlike “crowns”, you can choose the required diameter. This “ballerina” is made from wood!

Vise-clamps for a drill or drill:

Convenient vise for clamping power tools. You can easily make a small sharpening machine out of a drill :-)

Stripped screw extractors:
