Homemade device for shredding cabbage. How to make a simple and effective cabbage shredder

Good day Dear friends! In today's article, I would like to show you how to make a fairly relevant on this moment homemade. So, as now the sunset season is in full swing - this is the season when many of us make preparations for the winter from what we have grown in the summer in the country. Namely, we will consider how to make a shredder for cabbage. Many of us love sauerkraut and many of us know how difficult it can be to prepare it at times. One of the problems of harvesting cabbage for the winter is shredding it, of course, when you are going to harvest one or two liter jars, you will not have any particular problems with this. But when it comes to ten three liter cans, then it will be quite problematic to chop the cabbage forks, for a long time and not as neatly as it could be with the help of our shredder. This homemade product will have a very simple and primitive design from parts that you will probably find at home, in the country or in the garage. Well, enough long prefaces, and let's start assembling this homemade product. Let's go!

And so, for this homemade product you will need:
- A sheet of plywood (1m * 1m).
- Shank from a shovel.
- Wooden block.
- Round wooden stick 2pcs (for example, from wooden hanger for clothes).
- Furniture nails.
- Self-tapping screws.
- Blades for stationery knife.
- A couple of pucks.

Of the tools you will also need:
- A hammer.
- Electric jigsaw.
- Manual jigsaw.
- Ruler.
- Black helium or capillary pen.
- Drill and drills.
- Screwdrivers.
- Hot glue.
- Stationery knife.

First, let's take a sheet of plywood, we should draw a quadrilateral on it. To do this, we need a black helium or capillary pen (using a pen instead of a marker, you will achieve a thinner and more accurate outline) and a ruler. The sides of the quadrangle should be equal to 18 cm and 22 cm. We need 2 such quadrangles. After we have applied the drawing with the help of an electric jigsaw, we cut out our blanks. It should also be noted that on the blanks just made, a hole should be made in the center relative to the upper and lower sides and slightly offset to one of the sides. The diameter of the hole should be equal to the outer diameter of the round stick.

After the above actions, we should do the following actions. Namely, four racks in order to interconnect previously made blanks. For them we need to take wooden block and using a hacksaw on a tree, divide it into four equal parts of 14 cm each. After we have made the racks, we will temporarily fix them with hot glue as shown in the photo below, that is, along the edges of the plywood square.

The next step is to take a handle of medium diameter and saw off from it a cylinder with a height equal to the height of the racks, in our case it is 14 cm. And in the center of this cylinder we make holes whose diameter will be equal to the diameter of the hole made earlier on plywood quadrangles, that is, the diameter of the round wooden stick you took. Next, install the cylinder in the place indicated in the photo so that the holes of the cylinder and the quadrangle coincide. We will fix it with hot glue.

Then we should take and modify the second plywood quadrilateral made earlier. Near the previously made hole, draw a rectangle towards the far side, that is, towards the center relative to the sides (see photo). The width of this rectangle should be about 1 cm, and the length should be slightly less than the length of the blades you took for a stationery knife.

Cut out, cut out with manual jigsaw exactly along the outline. And with the help of a clerical knife, we bevel one of the sides of just the rectangular hole made (see photo).

We connect the modified quadrilateral with the previously made workpiece using hot melt adhesive. Then we knock together the entire structure with the help of furniture nails and twist it with wood screws. This will give us the strength and reliability of the structure.

Next, we need a clerical knife blade. The blade should be fixed in the place indicated in the photo (see below). In order for the blade to hold securely, it should be fixed with self-tapping screws through metal washers.

Next, we will make the next blank, on which the cabbage will rotate. To do this, from a small bar a little smaller size racks should be sawn off a segment of 14 cm and drilled along the edges as indicated through holes, the diameter of which will be equal to the outer diameter of the round stick. Insert a round stick into one of the holes made.

Then we cut out a circle from plywood with a diameter of 5-6 cm with a hole in the center, and the diameter of the hole in the center should be equal to the diameter of a round stick. This part will act as a large wooden washer. And install it in place, which is indicated in the photo. In order for the plywood washer not to rotate, but to sit tightly and not movably in its place, we strengthen the connection with a pair of furniture nails.

And in the second hole we insert a round stick about 14 cm long, it will act as a handle for which we will hold and rotate the cabbage around its axis.

All is ready! It remains only to test, for this we string a head of cabbage on the axis of the “handle”, set it in place and rotate it, head of cabbage clockwise until it runs out. As a result, we got a very simple and useful design, which will certainly come in handy for harvesting cabbage for the winter.

Thank you all for your attention and good luck in future DIY projects!

Delicious and useful product - sauerkraut. Practical housewives prepare it in the fall both in the countryside and in the city. And the most time-consuming operation here is to chop the heads of cabbage. For this, sharp long knives and special shredders are used. But no manual one can be compared in terms of convenience and performance with an electric one, which you can do with your own hands, taking some parts and assemblies from the old one. washing machine.

The general arrangement of an electric shredder is simple: an electric motor and a bearing assembly of a working disk with three knives are mounted on a metal frame welded from steel corners 20X20 mm. Rotation is transmitted to it from the engine by a belt drive. The body of the shredder enclosing the working disc has an inlet with a feed funnel and an outlet window. For the convenience of work, the frame is mounted on support legs welded from steel corners so that the working disk is 30° deviated from the horizontal. This makes it easier to load the funnel and feed the cabbage under the knife.

The most important part of the shredder is a working disk with three knives. It is cut from a duralumin sheet 2 mm thick. To increase rigidity, its edge is beaded on the floor at a right angle of 10 mm. Having outlined the installation site for the knives, three crescent-shaped windows are cut in the disk, and then the edges of the cut are squeezed out 6 mm above the plane of the disk, as shown in Figure 2. Crescent-shaped knives are installed on the resulting sites with rivets. best material for them - a blade from a mechanical hacksaw or a scythe blade. It is somewhat easier to make a straight knife, but a saber knife is better at work. Three duralumin corners riveted on the opposite side of the disk from the knives will help to remove the cabbage “noodles” from under the disk.

The body of the shredder consists of two parts: a casing of the working disc and a cover with a feed funnel. You can make both parts either from a steel sheet with a thickness of 0.75 mm, connecting the joints gas welding, either from the material of the body of the washing machine on aluminum rivets, or from aluminum sheet with a rolling connection.

1 - loading funnel, 2 - cover, 3 - coupling bolt, 4 - working disk, 5 - frame, 6 - electric motor, 7 - drive pulley, 8 - belt, 9 - casing of the working disk, 10 - bearing housing, 11 - shaft of the working disk, 12 - bearing No. 80202.

1 - knife, 2 - disc, 3 - disc hub, 4 - corner, 5 - corner rivets, 6 - knife rivet

1 - working disk, 2 - loading funnel, 3 - adjusting base plate, 4 - knife.

The bearing assembly of the working disk is formed by: a housing, a shaft and two bearings No. 80202. An angle of 20X20 mm and a vertical steel plate 3 mm thick are welded to the housing horizontally. Two holes in the lower shelf of the corner - for attaching the unit to the frame, and two - in the vertical shelf and one in the top plate - for connecting protective cover working disk.

The details of the V-belt reduction gear from the engine to the working disk are borrowed from the washing machine. The belt tension is regulated by the position of the engine: the grooves of its mounting bolts on the frame allow you to change the center distance within a small range.

The adjustment of the working body is reduced to setting a gap of 3-5 mm between the base plate of the feed funnel and the knives, and the thickness of the cut is determined by the design of the working disk: the height of the knife blades relative to the disk.

An electric shredder with sharpened knives copes with a head of cabbage in a matter of seconds, therefore, in order to avoid injuries, chopped vegetables should be fed to a rotating disk with a wooden pestle.

During the preparation of vegetables for the winter, pickles occupy a special place. Among them are delicious sauerkraut and pickled cabbage. When processing vegetables at home, you will need a shredder: during the shredding process, it is easy to get slices of the same thickness, while you can choose right direction location of cut fibers. This will keep taste qualities product and its content of nutrients.

Cabbage knife

The classic knife "Hostess" and other analogues for cutting vegetables reduce labor intensity and make it possible to quickly process a head of cabbage for subsequent salting. The device is a steel cleaver with a comfortable handle, on the cutting part of which several blades are installed at a certain angle. A special blade cuts the head of cabbage across the fibers, keeping the juice in the vegetable, and with it all the useful elements. Using a knife for cutting cabbage when chopping vegetables, you can significantly simplify cutting: it happens easily, without additional effort.

Shredder for cabbage electric household

In farms, at vegetable bases or in canning shops, a universal electric shredder for cabbage is used. It is designed for cutting, chopping root crops, vegetables and fruits that have a rigid structure. The cut is carried out with a special circular knife-grater made of hardened stainless steel. You can see a photo of the device below. Cabbage shredder vegetable cutter can cut beets, carrots, apples from 0.5mm to 5mm in full length, reducing processing waste. The height of the blades determines the thickness of the cut.

Manual

The hand shredder is an affordable alternative to the professional cabbage cutter. It has a special grater and chute made of wood or environmentally friendly high-strength plastic, as well as a cutting board. The design is equipped with one or more cutting blades, manually adjustable in inclination and height. Adjustable positioning allows grinding to the right sizes. A manual cabbage shredder does a great job with everything hard species vegetables. The vegetable cutter is affordable, easy to sharpen, washable warm water.

with box

The next option is a wooden cabbage shredder with a box:

  • The device is a case in which 3-4 blades made of durable tool steel are fixed.
  • The box and board are made of hard rock wood (beech, oak, ash).
  • The position of the blades can be adjusted manually by raising, lowering them and changing the cutting angle.
  • Grater for cabbage does not slip on working surface, and the blade group provides good performance.

Mechanical

For chopping vegetables in small volumes, a mechanical cabbage shredder is used. This is a metal or plastic nozzle for a meat grinder with a round grater or a slicer. By rotating the handle of the device and turning the grater around the axis, you can cut vegetables without tedious reciprocating movements. it best option household shredder. Mechanical models are equipped with a set of graters with different diameters and hole shapes.

How to choose a shredder for cabbage

To choose the most suitable shredding machine and quickly, safely shred vegetables in required quantities several important factors must be taken into account. First of all, you should decide on the type you need:

  • Manual. salad preparation, home preservation.
  • Mechanical. Chopping vegetables on your farm.
  • Electric. Commercial production of salads, semi-finished products from chopped vegetables.

When choosing this technique, it is necessary to take into account the quality of the cutting blades and the environmental properties of the working surfaces. They will ensure durability and performance. Adjustable blades allow you to change the cutting width. When choosing, preference should be given to designs with cutting board, they will provide proper comfort during their operation.

The cabbage knife was needed in late autumn, after the first frost. And here, in the barn, an old two-handed saw “Friendship-2”, as it was called in the old days, lay idle. This is great steel!

A blade thickness of 1.2 mm is optimal for kitchen knives.

1. First of all, I drew the outline of the future knife with chalk. Overall length - 400 mm, blade width - 55 mm, handle length - 130 mm, handle width - 25 mm. Pressing the saw blade with a clamp to the workbench, he cut the workpiece along the contour with the vulcanite of an electric grinder.

2. And then on the emery I trimmed all the lines around the perimeter and pre-sharpened the blade. With coarse and fine sandpaper, I cleaned all the edges and surfaces of the knife.

In order to drill holes for riveting, I had to anneal the drilling points with a flame gas burner. After annealing, I punched and drilled three holes on drilling machine. I’ll note right away: for working with Soviet steel, a drill made in the USSR is also better. The diameter of the holes (4.5 mm) I chose the rivets corresponding to the aluminum wire (they were made from a thick cable bar).

PREPARATIONS FOR HANDLES I sawed from a beech board - plates 6 mm thick. An important step in the manufacture of a knife is to accurately drill holes for rivets in a pair of wooden linings. To do this, pressing one of the overlays with a small clamp to its “legitimate” place of the handle on the blade of the knife, I drilled two holes according to the template, put the riveting blanks and, having removed the clamp, drilled the third hole.

Having squeezed both beech linings together with a clamp, I drilled the same holes in the second through the holes in the first. And then manually, carefully, with a large drill, he removed light chamfers in all holes from the outside.

WORKPIECE LENGTH the rivets should be 6 mm more than the thickness of the two overlays and the knife blade folded together. Inserting them into place, I carefully, without diligence, riveted the rivets. Now it remains to bring the knife to mind: manually processed with a coarse file wooden lining to an oval shape, cleaned with a coarse and fine sandpaper and smeared with automotive oil, removing the excess with a rag. The blade was corrected on the ovality touchstone.

TESTS PASSED SUCCESSFULLY: 30 liters of sauerkraut were pickled for the winter. I don’t offer drawings, because everyone has their own knife model. By the way, from one two-handed saw you get at least 8 options, from a scraper to a machete.

CABBAGE KNIFE OWN HANDS FROM SAW

Every autumn it is time to harvest vegetables in the form of a variety of pickles and canned salads. It's nice to treat yourself to this yummy in the winter.

No matter how much the hostesses prepare various snacks and marinade salads, sauerkraut still occupies a central place in this vegetable wealth. But its appearance is preceded by a rather tedious and not too beloved process of shredding heads of cabbage.

Many years ago, I remember, they said "chopping cabbage." This is because a special chopping knife, or chopper, was used for such a case, and not a cabbage shredder. Cabbage was cut into slices in a rounded wooden trough, linden or oak, and salted and stored until the next harvest.

And although now few people sour cabbage with whole barrels, they try to facilitate the cutting process with the help of various devices. However, even for small volumes, a special knife was invented with several sharp steel blades located at an angle. Such a cabbage shredder (manual, as it is called) is absolutely safe and allows you to significantly speed up the cutting and improve its quality. It turns out an even thin straw, which only a professional chef can cut with an ordinary knife. True, some skill is needed, but any housewife will quickly master this device, there is little wisdom.

For a small amount, a plastic cabbage shredder is suitable. This simple device resembles an ordinary grater and is a mold of durable plastic with removable blades. Some products have a container for

A more productive and reliable wooden cabbage shredder is also a very simple device that many housewives prefer to use. You can buy it in the store or make it yourself. A wooden shredder is a board on which lamellar steel knives are fixed. The thickness of the cut pieces depends on the size of the gaps between the knives and the board. Usually wooden shredders for cabbage do large sizes and install them directly above the salting container. For safety, some shredders are equipped with a moving hopper in the form of a cube with a clamping lid. The head of cabbage is placed in the bunker, covered with a lid, and then moves forward onto the knives. This cabbage shredder is safe to use and has good performance.

All of the above devices make shredding only half as easy, because the hands get tired of holding the head anyway. But technical progress, as you know, does not stand still, and now some housewives trust shredding to modern electric meat grinders that have special nozzles, including for cabbage. The food processor is an even more advanced and modernized shredder; it cracks down on pieces of cabbage in a matter of minutes. And finally, the slicer is an electric vegetable cutter.

However, cabbage after shredding in this miracle technique is not as beautiful as we would like, so many housewives prefer to shred cabbage more simple devices. Or the old fashioned way, with your own hands.
