What is the difference between spray roses and border roses? My favorite spray roses. General description, use

It’s very nice when a topic raised in the magazine resonates with amateur gardeners. In the last issue of the magazine we answered a question about spray roses. Today, in continuation of this topic personal experience Tatiana Maksimovskaya. She grows spray roses in the Urals. Photos prove that her experience is very successful. Dear readers, if you also have something to add about growing plants, send your stories to: 603086, Nizhny Novgorod, PO Box 65 or by email. mail: [email protected] Your photographs and letters will participate in the "On Your Own Land" competition.

With all the diversity ornamental plants In the garden, roses probably occupy the most honorable place, because they begin flowering in June and continue until late autumn. Some varieties (primarily hybrid tea roses) bloom with a short break, others almost continuously, including rosespray.

Literally, the name Rosa spray means “spray”, “fountain”, and this is justified: numerous small flowers are collected in large brushes.

Another name for bouquet roses. Each branch is a whole bouquet! Both florists and landscape designers love them.

These roses enchant at first sight with their low bushes, all strewn with numerous flowers, forming an openwork cloud. There can be up to 30 buds on a branch; the flowers stay on the bush for a very long time without fading. If you pinch the central bud in the inflorescence, the rest will bloom simultaneously.

Small bushes 50-70 cm high are very compact. They are good for container planting (in a group of three roses), or you can plant them along paths in checkerboard pattern every 30 cm.

The only “disadvantage” of spray roses is that they do not have a strong scent, only a light, delicate aroma.

PLANTING AND CARE OF SPRAY ROSES

Spray roses can be classified as floribunda, so plant and care for them like other roses.

When planting grafted seedlings, we deepen the root collar by 2-3 cm so that the grafting is comfortable, not cold or hot. If for some reason the rose's branches dry out and become dry, then new replacement shoots will emerge from the dormant buds of the root collar.

In early spring, we do the first fertilizing with a complete mineral fertilizer, and if you use modern long-acting fertilizers, then one fertilizing is enough.

To preserve moisture and require less maintenance, it is advisable to mulch the soil around the roses, preferably with humus, which also provides additional nutrition. The next feeding after flowering.

None in August nitrogen fertilizers, only phosphorus-potassium for better ripening of shoots.

HOW DO SPRAY ROSES WINTER?

These roses are quite unpretentious and have good health, grow quickly and winter stably.

In my Chelyabinsk region, we also endured short-term drops of up to 15-17 degrees below zero. But then, as a rule, we have good snow cover - this is the best shelter. To be on the safe side, so that the roses do not get trapped when the snow melts, you can cover them along the frame with dense (50-60 units) covering material.

ABOUT SPRAY ROSE VARIETIES

The color range of spray roses is very diverse: from various shades of milky white, pink and red-brown tones. Among the sprays, two-tone and striped colors are often found. Thanks to the large number of flowers on the stem, such roses form a whole airy cloud!

Lydia is the earliest of the spray roses. Terry goblet buds (4-5 cm in diameter) of pure pink color. The leaves are shiny, glossy. The bush is straight, compact, 50-60 cm high

Luviana - flowers in white and green tones, densely double, goblet-shaped (4-5 cm in diameter).

Mimi Eden - miniature version climbing rose Pierre de Ronsard/ Eden Rose. The flowers are densely double, cup-shaped, white with a pink center (3-4 cm in diameter). In the cold and rainy weather flowers may rot.

For a florist, it is a great joy to have long-lasting roses with almost no thorns. This is exactly what spray roses are. Graceful and miniature, they are beautiful in bouquet arrangements and landscape decor. Let's talk about them in more detail, let's figure out which varieties are worthy of attention.

General description, use

Spray roses are part of the group of so-called border flowers. Slender, short, they decorate front gardens and parks in even rows. The very apt name of the flowers “spray” speaks for itself - many neat flowers seem to “splash out” from a smooth stem. Sprays are a variety of roses from the Floribunda group. They rightfully take their place, showing best characteristics groups - mass flowering throughout the season, durability in bouquets and unpretentiousness.

Due to the large number of flowers on a branch, a flower with a large number of buds already looks like a bouquet. And in combination with other flowers and greenery it creates a feeling of grace and style. IN open ground roses are short lush bushes, the most spectacular in growth up to 60 cm. Although some varieties “reach” up to 90 cm.

Attention! It has been noticed that stems with small flowers last the longest when cut.

Successful use rose bushes and in the design of the yard. You can create round compositions from them by installing a decorative fence around them. Shrub roses also feel great in vertical “living walls.” Alternatively, you can plant the bushes in free-standing flowerpots with soil - use small wooden wheelbarrows, wooden barrels and even old car tires as containers.

Growing, care

Many gardeners are afraid to get involved with growing spray roses - it seems that graceful flower very capricious. In vain, these roses are small, but resistant to cold and disease. Good care, they, of course, need it, but without complex features. The main thing is to consistently fulfill the basic requirements:

Popular varieties of bright colors

Spray roses delight with a huge number of varieties, which are constantly replenished thanks to flower breeders. Let's talk about the most popular ones.

  • Tamango. It is very noticeable with its bright scarlet or deep red cup flowers. It has an unobtrusive but clearly perceptible aroma. The bushes are low-growing, about 50 cm. They bloom until the first cold weather, and the petals do not lose their color under the sun.

  • Heidi Klum. Flowers with bright, almost lilac petals. The open buds are round in shape, up to 9 cm in diameter. The bushes are compact, low, up to half a meter. This variety does not like drafts and wind; it is not advisable to plant it in high, open areas.
  • Rose Arrow Folies originally from the USA. It belongs to medium-sized bushes - it grows up to 70 cm. The stem, unlike many other varieties, has thorns. The buds have a “bold” color - the red main color is “diluted” with pink, sometimes white, spots. This rose is very impressive in bouquets. The buds withstand cold precipitation without losing their rich color.
  • Impossible not to mention Rose Orange Babe. The bright orange flowers are quite large and very beautiful. The petals are gracefully curled inward, forming almost a triangle. • Rose White Mikado distinguished by delicate white petals. They have a gracefully wavy edge. It blooms several times during the season, the stems reach 70 cm, growing up to half a meter wide. This variety is susceptible to diseases.

  • View Weding Piano was recently released, in 2-13. The buds look interesting - they are an almost round ball with many petals, about 40 of them. This rose is one of the leaders in growth, it grows up to 120 cm. The flowers of the buds open slowly, demonstrating their beauty for a long time.
  • Florists' favorite bush rose Love Lydia. Persistent when cut, with neat flowers of deep pink color. Shades vary - this variety can also have cream shades. Each peduncle has up to 10 petals. It blooms continuously all season, small bushes have a traditional “size” - up to 70 cm.

  • Love Lydia is sometimes confused with another name - Lydia. The flower differs in the shape of the bud; they are goblet-shaped. The height of the bushes is also different - no more than 60 cm. This variety is appropriate in the design of plots - they are used to form group compositions. Blooms continuously all summer.

Description and best varieties of rose spray

Description of the species

What are spray roses and what is their difference? This question may be of interest not only to beginners, but also to experienced gardeners. Roses belonging to the spray group have all the characteristics of Floribunda, with the only difference being that they are more compact and shorter.

The bushes of this rose have a height of 40–50 cm, although some varieties can grow up to 80–90 cm. The flowers are small, sometimes even miniature, with a diameter of 3–7 cm (depending on the variety), arranged in clusters of 10–15 pieces per branch . The buds can be elegant, goblet-shaped or densely double, in different color shades.

One cut branch may well be considered an independent bouquet, which is why spray roses are often called “bouquet roses.” They are also beautiful as a background for larger flowers, or in mini-bouquets, which is why florists most often use these flowers in wedding bouquets.

Like Floribundas, spray roses bloom for a very long time and profusely. At correct pruning flowering lasts almost all summer. In addition to being highly decorative, they are very unpretentious to conditions and are winter-hardy, which allows them to be grown in the middle climate and even in cooler regions.

Another pleasant feature of roses is a small amount, and sometimes complete absence thorns, making them easy to care for and make bouquets. IN recent years rose spray is increasingly used in landscape design and home gardening. They are equally beautiful both in a flowerbed and in a single planting, and the small size of the plants allows them to be grown in pots and containers.

The best varieties of rose spray

The rapid popularity of flowers has contributed to the fact that new varieties of a wide variety of shapes, sizes and color palettes began to appear regularly:

  • Lovely Lidia (Favorite Lydia) is one of the very first varieties bred in Holland at the end of the twentieth century. The bush is quite spreading, about 70 cm high. The flowers are small (3–4 cm), pink, lighter at the edges, darker in the middle.
  • Mimi Eden (Mimi Eden) is an incredibly beautiful and elegant rose in a white and pink palette. The buds are light apricot, as they bloom they become soft pink, over time they fade in the sun and become white.
  • Tamango (Tamango) - very compact (about 50 cm high) and decorative rose. The buds are large (6–7 cm in diameter), densely double (about 40 petals), rich scarlet color, located 10–12 pieces per branch. The high winter hardiness of the variety allows it to be grown in cold regions of the country.

  • Typhoon (Typhoon) - a very bright rose with double buds of rich orange color. The edges of the petals are red, gradually turning yellow towards the middle.
  • Satin (Satin) is an amazingly beautiful rose with marble two-color buds. The flowers are large (up to 8 cm), bright pink with cream stains.
  • Tiramisu (Tiramisu) is another spectacular variety with two-color buds, bred in Holland. The roses are small, the petals are terracotta on the inside, creamy on the outside, one brush contains 12–15 flowers. The bush is compact (up to 50 cm).
  • Rubicon (Rubicon) is a very sophisticated rose of dark purple color. The buds are large, goblet-shaped, the aroma is light and refined.
  • Orange spray – new variety roses with bright orange petals. The buds are small (3–4 cm), shaped like a tea rose, and exude a light aroma.

Planting and caring for a bush

Growing roses spray is pleasant and exciting process. For planting, choose a sunny or slightly shaded place protected from the winds. Roses of light shades can be planted in the sun, but varieties with dark buds are better placed in light partial shade, since the flowers quickly fade in the sun.

The planting process consists of the following steps:

  • digging a planting hole about 45 cm wide and deep;
  • laying a drainage layer (sand, small pebbles);
  • It is advisable to lay it on top of the drainage organic fertilizers(dry leaves, compost, well-rotted manure);
  • sprinkle fertilizers with a layer of soil;
  • Place the bush on the formed mound, straighten the roots and carefully cover it with soil.

After planting, the rose should be well watered at the rate of 6–8 liters of water per bush. The water should be settled and not cold, and it should be poured into a small depression made around the seedling.

Caring for roses requires a simple spray. They like regular watering, especially during the flowering period. To prevent moisture from evaporating, the ground can be covered with mulch. In the absence of mulch, the soil must be regularly loosened and cleared of weeds. In hot weather, burns may appear on the leaves and petals of flowers. To avoid this, periodically the bushes need to be sprinkled.

For lush and long-lasting flowering, roses need fertilizing. In the spring, before flowering, nitrogen-containing fertilizers are used. Flowering shrubs need more phosphorus, potassium fertilizers and microelements. Despite their high frost resistance, the bushes need to be hilled and covered for the winter.

Rose pruning has great value– it stimulates and prolongs flowering, and also promotes the formation of new shoots (rejuvenates the bush). It is necessary to carry out pruning several times during the season: sanitary in the spring, formative in the fall. In summer, it is necessary to regularly remove faded buds, as they not only spoil appearance bush, but also serve as a refuge for pests and microbes.

Over centuries of cultivation, a huge number of varieties of roses have appeared, which are now divided into classes and groups by the World Federation of Horticultural Societies. Spray roses belong to one of the relatively recently emerging groups. These flowers are very loved by florists and are often the basis of wedding bouquets. Let's figure out what it is.

Spray roses

This group of varieties was isolated from the “floribunda” group, whose varieties are widely used to decorate garden plots and are very loved by landscape designers. This division occurred recently, in the second half of the twentieth century. The group under consideration is quite diverse and includes both low-growing bushes belonging to the type of border roses and taller plants.

A characteristic feature of “spray” roses are relatively small (up to 7 cm in diameter) flowers, which bloom in large numbers on one branch - there can be up to one and a half dozen of them. Plants of this group can grow up to 90 cm, but more often they are compact half-meter bushes, decorated with inflorescences of small flowers.

Popular varieties

Breeders have developed many varieties of spray roses, differing in different colors, heights and sizes of flowers. Descriptions of some popular varieties are given below.

"Tamango"

This variety distinguished by spreading bushes, the height of which does not exceed 50 cm. The flowers are quite large, up to 7.5 cm in diameter. They have a rich red color and a pronounced smell. The plant is resistant to winter cold and diseases, flowering continues until frost.

"Allegria"

Bushes "Allegria" can reach 70 cm in height. The flowers are small, up to 5 cm in diameter, orange-pink in color, and have almost no scent. Flowering continues throughout the season. "Allegria" is characterized by increased resistance to low temperatures and diseases.

"Typhoon"

Typhoon bushes reach 70 cm in height. The flowers are orange, bright, up to 5 cm in diameter. The Typhoon rose blooms until late autumn. Little susceptible to disease and cold.

Roses "Shine" bred in the USA in the 70s, and are considered one of the best varieties of yellow roses. The height of the bushes does not exceed half a meter, the flowers are usually 4 cm in diameter. Their aroma is pronounced. "Shine" blooms throughout the season. Resistance to cold and disease is above average.

"Victoria"

This variety is characterized by abundant flowering, on one shoot up to one and a half dozen flowers with a diameter of up to 5 cm can form. The bush reaches 60 cm in height, its flowers are delicate pink in color, but over time they fade to a white-pink color. "Victoria" tolerates frost well and is little susceptible to disease.

"Star and Stripes"

The original name of this variety of roses is “Stars’n’Stripes”. Usually the height of the bushes does not exceed 50 cm, but it can exceed this limit. There are almost no thorns. The flowers are small, memorable, with a “striped” color - they alternate crimson and white stripes and spots. The diameter is usually 2-3 cm, but can reach 5 cm. The aroma of the flowers is sweet and pronounced. "Stars'n'Stripes" blooms all season.

"Fire Flash"

This plant is distinguished by rather tall bushes, up to 80 cm in height. Its flowers are bright red, the diameter reaches 6 cm. The aroma is barely noticeable. The plant blooms all season. Fire King is resistant to disease and cold.

Features of growing a group

Almost all varieties of spray roses are unpretentious; planting and caring for them is not difficult for gardeners. To plant them, prepare a hole measuring 40 by 40 cm; its bottom is covered with expanded clay to ensure drainage. When planting, compost is added to the hole. For normal plant development, light, slightly acidic soil is preferred.

For planting, well-lit but slightly shaded places protected from the wind are desirable. The best time for planting is early May. Watering should be moderate but regular. For the winter, despite all frost resistance, it is advisable to cover the plants with spruce branches. In the spring, diseased and dying shoots are pruned, in the summer - shoots growing inside the bush, in the fall - weak shoots that clearly cannot withstand severe cold.

So, as we have seen, spray roses distinguished not only by excellent external data, but also unpretentiousness, as well as resistance to disease. This group of varieties is simply ideal for decorating a garden plot. The spectacular inflorescences of these bushes look great both in bouquets and in flower beds.

The best varieties of spray roses for a summer cottage

What is it? Characteristic

Small-flowered spray roses are somewhat different from ordinary garden flowers. Rose bushes are quite compact in size, about 50 cm, but they have many side shoots. On each branch of the bush, depending on the type of flower, from 5 to 15 buds of different shades and colors can grow and open.

The rose flowers themselves are small in diameter, ranging in size from 3 to 8 cm, and have a light aroma. After cutting, they stand in water for a long time without losing color and freshness, they open gradually, and are often used for wedding bouquets and compositions.

This rose variety was bred to be resistant to planting in different climatic conditions. If the rose is watered correctly, pruned and fertilized in time, then small but spectacular flowers will decorate the garden from the second half of spring to late autumn, shimmering in red, yellow and cream shades.

The spray group used to belong to floribunda. The description of these varieties differs from other varieties of roses in the following ways:

  • The plants look like compact bushes. They grow up to 50 cm in height. Some species can form shoots up to 90 cm in height;

Spray roses are a group of roses that, for most of their characteristics, can be classified as “Floribunda.” In addition, quite often they are called “Wedding”. Today, a huge number of varieties of these roses have appeared on the market of our country, which are becoming more and more popular every day.

Rose spray

Consider the varieties of rose spray:

  • Tamango

Rose Tamango is a Floribunda. A photo of this variety is presented in the catalog. Basically, the flower reaches a height of approximately 48 centimeters, and grows up to 45 centimeters in width. The size of the flowers is about 7.5 centimeters. This variety has red flowers. Planting and further cultivation of this species is possible in climatic zones 6-9; they are the most favorable for this hybrid. The variety was bred in 1965.

Tamango has abundant petals, so from the outside it seems that the flower does not have enough space to grow. Gracefully shaped buds grow into ideal cup-shaped flowers. Taking into account the abundance of the plant, the continuous flowering period, which is evenly distributed on a low and wide bush, and increased resistance to diseases, gardeners quite often use it for landscaping their plots and for garden design.

Another important point: these flowers cannot fade under the sun's rays, and besides, in shady areas these bushes feel good and delight the eye with beautiful blooms. The rose has a pleasant aroma. This variety is shown in the photo.

Rose varieties spray

  • Mandarin

Mandarin has 4-centimeter flowers in diameter with an orange-yellow color: sometimes the color becomes apricot-yellow, densely double. The aroma is fragrant, the flowers are gracefully cup-shaped. Medium sized leaves. The bushes are densely branched and profusely flowering; during flowering they form large bouquets. The hybrid is frost-resistant. The flowering period of Mandarin is quite long.

  • Lydia

The Lydia variety was developed in the Netherlands around 1995 through the efforts of G. Peter Ilsink. This hybrid belongs to the rose spray. In most respects, this category of roses belongs to floribundas. This category is characterized by short growth and small flowers, blooming in huge inflorescences and quite profusely. This hybrid is shown in the photo below.

Lydia has 15 deep pink flowers in an inflorescence. Such inflorescences are often called splashes, which is where the name for this category of roses comes from. These flowers reach approximately 3 centimeters in diameter. This hybrid grows up to 78 centimeters, but generally their height does not exceed 58 centimeters.

Rose care

Basically, these roses are demonstrated in the catalog of cut hybrids. Let's consider the description of this hybrid. The roots are formed by 3 years, it is believed that by this period the rose becomes a mature plant. Planting seedlings is possible in open ground and in pots. On a personal plot, seedlings should be planted in categories of 5 bushes. There is no need for trimming here: since the shape itself is neatly formed. The spray rose is very similar to the mini rose, however, these roses reach a height of approximately 35 centimeters.

These varieties are quite whimsical; the flowering period lasts the entire season. Lydia takes cuttings well and can be planted using its own roots. For cuttings, you can take the lower shoots with several leaves. You need to cut the seedlings obliquely, leaving 2 buds with one leaf at the bottom. The top of the seedlings should be covered with a transparent bag. After 2 months you will receive a young bush.

Cuttings of seedlings are best done in the summer, from May to August. For quite a long period in our country, this category of roses was represented by only one hybrid, Lydia. Roses should be planted in the spring; the grafting area should be a couple of centimeters below the ground. In addition, pruning should be done in summer and autumn. If the rose was planted in the fall, then the first pruning should be done in the spring.

Care and planting

Rose spray requires simple care, since it is a completely unpretentious plant. The flowering period of this flower is almost constant. Caring for a flower also involves covering it in winter period, and this process is not difficult to carry out. Care also involves pruning, and it doesn’t hurt to feed the plant. Main conditions proper cultivation This hybrid of roses is given a sunny area and constant loosening, moderate watering. As you can see, caring for it is easy.

Features of planting roses

Let's look at how to plant a spray rose:

  1. If you did not buy the seedlings in a container, and the bush has an open root system, then while digging the planting hole, the bush should be placed in a bucket of liquid.
  2. Dimensions of the pit: about 45 cm in diameter, the same in depth.
  3. The top layer of soil, the thickness of which is about 23 cm, must be set aside separately, it is then laid in its place. At the base of the recess you need to arrange the drainage necessary for damp soil. Drainage should consist of 2 layers: small stones sprinkled with sand.
  4. Then organic fertilizers, for example rotten grass, are laid. Or you can use dry branches, leaves or grass. Subsequently, they will turn out to be an excellent fertilizer.
  5. Alternatively, you can sprinkle manure on the base of the hole.
  6. The soil prepared using this method should be formed in the form of a low mound at the base of the pit, where it needs to be straightened root system seedling and then sprinkle with a top layer of identical soil. Then the soil needs to be compacted, carefully trampled down so that air voids do not form.

If you purchased seedlings in a container, then, carefully tapping it on all sides, remove the seedlings, while trying not to damage the soil with the root system. The paper type container needs to be unfolded. Then you need to install the soil with the root system in the planting hole on the prepared hill, spread the outer root system over it, dig it in, compact the soil, and top it up. In this case, you need to ensure that the bush is located exactly on the hill. The soil around the seedling should be compacted.

For cuttings, you can take the lower shoots with several leaves. You need to cut the seedlings obliquely, leaving 2 buds with one leaf at the bottom. The top of the seedlings should be covered with a transparent bag. After 2 months you will receive a young bush.

Cuttings of seedlings are best carried out in the summer months of May-August. For quite a long period of time in our country, this category of roses was represented by only one hybrid, Lydia. Roses should be planted in the spring; the grafting area will be a couple of centimeters below the ground. Pruning should be done in spring. In addition: pruning should be done in summer and autumn. If the rose was planted in the fall, then the first pruning should be done in the spring.

Care and planting

Rose spray requires simple care, as it is an unpretentious plant. The flowering period of this flower is almost constant. Caring for a flower also involves covering it for the winter, and this process is not difficult to carry out. Care also involves pruning; it also doesn’t hurt to feed the plant. The main conditions for proper cultivation of this rose hybrid are a sunny area, constant loosening, and moderate watering. As you can see, caring for it is not difficult.

Features of planting roses

Let's look at how to plant a spray rose:

  • If you did not buy the seedlings in a container, and the bush has an open root system, then while digging the planting hole, the bush should be placed in a bucket of liquid.
  • Dimensions of the pit: about 45 cm in diameter, the same in depth.
  • The top layer of soil, the thickness of which is about 23 cm, must be set aside separately, it is then laid in its place. At the base of the recess, you need to arrange the drainage necessary for damp soil. The drainage is based on 2 layers of small stones, which are sprinkled with sand.
  • Then organic fertilizers are laid, for example, rotten fertilizer. Or you can use dry branches, dry leaves or grass. They will then prove to be an excellent fertilizer.
  • Alternatively, you can sprinkle manure on the base of the hole.
  • We form the soil prepared using this method as a low mound at the base of the hole, where the root system of the seedlings needs to be spread and then sprinkled with the top layer of identical soil. Then the soil needs to be compacted, carefully trampled down so that there are no air voids.

If you purchased it in a container from a container, then, carefully tapping it on all sides, we remove the seedlings, while trying not to damage the soil with the root system. The paper type container needs to be unfolded. Then you need to install the soil with the root system in the planting hole on the prepared hill, you need to spread the outer root system over it, then you need to dig it in, compact the soil, and add it from the upper area, while you need to make sure that the bush is level with the hill. You need to stomp around.

It is necessary to make a small hole near the bush so that during watering the water will be near the rose. After the planting process, you need to water the proportion of 8 liters of liquid per bush. It is better to take rain liquid, and it must certainly be warm, for example, from the sun heated by the sun's rays. Let the tap liquid sit for several days so that there is no chlorine and the water can warm up. Thus, the plantings need to be watered with this water. Caring for a rose also involves watering and mulching. this way the water will not evaporate.

Tips for caring for spray roses

The rose is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful flowers in the world; its unusualness and beauty has attracted attention since ancient times. Many people want to grow and enjoy its beauty, but not everyone knows that roses are quite difficult and demanding to grow. It requires careful care, which includes watering, pruning, fertilizing, loosening, weed removal, protection from pests and diseases. The correct development and rapid growth of the plant depends on all these procedures.

The difficulties in growing are that the rose loves space, loves to be the center of attention, it’s not for nothing that she is the queen of flowers.

Following some tips will help you grow this whimsical, but such beautiful plant.

Roses do not like dry air and temperature changes; they are demanding fresh air. When growing roses in rooms with warm and stuffy air, growth and flowering are delayed. Therefore, by mid-spring indoor roses You should gradually get used to outdoor air, open windows and ventilate.

Roses are very sensitive to watering, especially during the period of active growth, as well as in spring and winter. In spring, watering increases as soon as the first, young leaves appear on the plant. In summer, the rose needs constant and abundant watering, preventing drying out. For better growth water for irrigation is taken clean, room temperature and preferably settled. By the beginning of autumn, watering is gradually reduced, with the exception of those varieties that continue to bloom. Lack of water causes roses to stop growing, wither, lose leaves and overall decorative properties.

In summer, roses need humidified air, so they need to be sprayed. Spraying is carried out quite often, up to 3 times a day, and serves to prevent the appearance of pests. You should not spray roses that are standing in the sun, as this can lead to sunburn.

The rose requires constant loosening of the soil, which begins in May and stops in August, to avoid further growth. In addition, during the loosening process, weeds are destroyed, the soil is saturated with oxygen and heat. The plant especially needs loosening after watering in sunny and hot weather, as well as after long rains. Loosening should be done not deep, 5-10 cm, so as not to damage the roots.

For the continuous and successful development and growth of roses, they need feeding with the complex mineral fertilizers. Which must include nitrogen, which accompanies the growth of shoots and leaves, phosphorus, for the formation of flowers, potassium and calcium, necessary to prevent diseases and root growth.

Feeding is carried out early spring and continues throughout the summer and towards the end of autumn.

Rose, as a representative of bush plants, needs pruning. The bushes are cut several times in spring, summer and autumn, after flowering. If roses are not pruned, they lose their decorative properties and flowering deteriorates.

Summer pruning is considered very important, as it prevents the formation of fruits and promotes the development of the bush and abundant flowering. Pruning also prevents many fungal diseases. It is advisable to do pruning at the same time, this promotes the development of shoots and mass flowering. Also in the summer, thinning is carried out. Old and weak shoots growing inside the bush are removed from the bushes; they are cut off at the base, leaving 3-4 of the strongest and most stable shoots.

During periods of heavy rain unopened buds and the flowers are damaged by rot and dew, in which case the damaged buds are cut off immediately, otherwise the plant may die.

Spray - branched or bouquet roses, with not very large flowers (4-7 cm). Even one branch of such a rose looks like a bouquet.

Spray roses are a group of roses that, in many ways, can be classified as a floribunda. But their small, and often downright small, flowers are not only numerous, but also collected in brushes that resemble individual small bouquets. Or splashes, as indicated in the name. Spray roses are most widely represented in the category of cut roses, which is understandable: one flower - one bouquet. In Russian gardens, until recently, the most widespread (and practically the only) variety was “Lydia”.

Recently, many new varieties of spray roses for the garden have appeared on the Russian market; they are becoming fashionable. The most favorite of them, of course, is Mimi Eden, bred by the Meilland nursery. Its delicate pink and white flowers, as if skillfully carved, are very reminiscent of the Eden rose itself - one of the best Meillanov roses, only in miniature.

Mimi Eden, originally a cut rose, has recently been adapted for the garden by grafting onto a frost-resistant rootstock. Despite the opinion that spray roses need some special care, Mimi Eden in Russia proved to be absolutely unpretentious rose. It blooms almost constantly and needs the lightest shelter for the winter. Due to the fact that its dimensions do not exceed 50 centimeters, it is not at all difficult to provide such shelter.

Care for spray roses is the same as for all floribunda roses. They bloom on the shoots of the current year, prune them better in spring, feed as usual. Like many floribundas, they naturally form a neat bush with an almost regular shape. And, like floribundas, they look most impressive when planted in a group of at least 5-10, or even more plants.

Planting and care

Most varieties of the spray group are unpretentious plants; planting and subsequent care do not require much physical and financial expenditure from the gardener. Therefore, even a novice gardener can grow such roses.

First of all, it is important to choose the right place for planting. When choosing a site, you should pay attention to the following requirements:

  • Roses are light-loving crops, but some varieties grow in partial shade. If the seedlings are planted in the shade, then the bush will delight the owner with only a modest presence, achieving lush flowering It won't work for sure.
  • Even though the spray rose is cold-resistant, it does not like gusts of wind and drafts, although the area should be ventilated.
  • The landing site should be located on a hill. If you give preference to a place in the lowlands, the plant will soon disappear there. This is due to the stagnation of excess moisture there, which leads to rotting of the root system and infection by fungal diseases, as well as the accumulation of cold air currents.

For planting, prepare a hole measuring approximately 40 by 40 cm. Expanded clay is evenly distributed at the bottom as drainage. During planting, rotted compost is added to the soil. The optimal soil for growth and development is light, slightly acidic.

Pay attention! Further care no different from what other roses require. The spray group needs watering, pruning and fertilizing.

Spray roses are a unique variety of plants that are ideal and easy to care for. Varieties are resistant to diseases and unfavorable weather conditions. Another important advantage is its unpretentiousness in cultivation, which allows minimal costs observe exquisite flowering throughout the growing season.
