Questions about electric boilers EVPM

Question: Maybe someone can tell me. The electric boiler EVPM-12 is working. 3*4 kW. Installed in reserve for a solid fuel boiler. There is no TT boiler yet. I made 40 m2 of water-heated floor on the ground floor. I connected the pump, tank and boiler to the collector. The house is connected to electricity using a SIP 4 4*16 cable. But so far only 220 volts (they can’t rent out a substation and don’t give 380). Is it possible to somehow connect one or two 4 kW heaters to 220 volts without modification?

Answer: My 3.2 kW heats 110 m2 of underfloor heating to a comfortable +22 (outside 0/-5), from 220V a 1.6 kW heating element works perfectly, I suspect that yours will work too. The 3*4 kW heating element module is three 4 kW heating elements. - SIP aluminum - 2.5 square cross-section is enough for each heating element. Install a 20A machine (if not, of course). Your wire with a reserve. Connect without modification - just do not connect the rest in the module. Choose any “pair” that is convenient for connection.

Question: We installed and connected the EVPM-15 electric boiler this year. Its task is to maintain the temperature at night. For this purpose, a THC15A time relay was purchased. Now we need to figure out how to mount this relay to the boiler. Who knows how to do this?

Answer: there is a thermostat there to set the temperature and that’s it. I hooked the thermostat control on mine into the thermostat gap, instead of it, you can do it in parallel with it.

Question: It was recommended to install an electric boiler EVPM-6. I read about it and now I don’t know what to do. Should I mount it or is it better to use another one that is more expensive?

Answer: If you have money, take it at a higher price, but if you don’t have a lot of money, this one works that way, its maintainability is high, it can be easily repaired for little money.

Question: The electric boiler was connected. On the second day of work the first ten was struck. Now the boiler operates on one second heater. I don't connect the third one. They say the substation has been launched. I hope for an additional 380 volt connection. I heat 37 m2. The boiler is constantly heating.

Is the block of heating elements replaced as an assembly or can one heating element be changed? My electric water heater has been modified. It has an additional thermostat and connection blocks for the boiler, boiler pump and heating pumps. One main, one backup and 1 amp pump circuit breakers for each pump.

Answer: after a couple of months, one phase of my circuit breaker was damaged, I replaced it under warranty, but the boiler still works, I don’t know about the heater, I haven’t encountered it yet.

Question: On my electric water heater (electric boiler) EVPM-9 for three stages there are three indicators, the heating element seems to have burned out, and the indicator is on, is this how it should be? And when it reaches 30 degrees, something starts to make noise, it sounds like air is coming out of the air vent or the kettle is boiling.

Answer: The sound precedes the combustion of the heating element; it will hiss and knock out for a month or two. If the light is on, it is most likely working for now. When it breaks, the ouzo will extinguish your entire pot.

Question: I have a question about the thermostat, I replaced mine, but the knob with the temperature scale remained from the previous thermostat, now I don’t really understand its operating mode. Let's say I set the temperature to 30 degrees, does it heat up to 30 and turn off or has a delta? For example, he heated it to 40 and turned it off, waits for the return temperature to drop to 20 and turns it on again.

Answer: I think that there is no strictly specified hysteresis in it (we are talking about a capillary thermostat?). Depending on your luck.

Question: One heating element on the EVPM-3 electric boiler has stopped working, I want to change it, who changed the unit - are there any difficulties? step by step instructions any?

Answer: De-energize the electrical installation and ensure that unauthorized voltage supply is impossible. Relieve pressure in the system. Unscrew the terminals. Unscrew the 3 nuts and pull out the heating element block. Remove the rubber seal, it is there in a groove, most likely it will not be on the new block. Install the new block along with the rubber band in place of the old one. Assemble the boiler. Pressurize the system back. Start the pump and
vent the air.

Question: We installed and connected an EVPM-9 electric boiler, which leaked after 4 months of use - the weld seam was peeling. I don’t know what to do, I don’t know where to take it under warranty, buy a new one - I suppose it will be the same, maybe I can try to brew it?

Answer: You can also solder it. Take soldering flux copper pipes(such a gray paste), thoroughly clean the welding area, apply the paste, heat it with a torch until it dries and droplets of solder appear (it is in the paste, but in small quantities), then finish off the solder with the same torch.

Question: I disassembled the electric boiler over the weekend, and how can I unscrew the heating element with a nut with sides measuring 90 mm?

Answer: gas wrench No. 5.

Question: I want to connect a thermostat, I’m confused that the boiler’s passport says: The water heater provides for the connection of an external room temperature regulator. If it is missing, the terminals on the terminal block are short-circuited.

When installing an external regulator in an EVPM-3 electric water heater, it is necessary to take into account the load capacity of its contacts (at least 15A, 242V) and the temperature control range. An Auraton thermostat was supposed to have a contact load of 230V AC according to the data sheet. current, 50Hz, 8A. It turns out that it needs to be connected through some other relay? Where to connect on the boiler itself?

Answer: Connect through the starter; in general, power things and automation do not have direct contact. Most likely it will be connected to the gap between the electric water heater and the network, you can figure it out and you won’t be mistaken, there is nothing complicated about such devices.

Question: A 12 kW EVPM boiler is installed, the house has one phase, last winter I didn’t turn on more than two heaters. I'm tired of the constant "bumming" of the contactor, yesterday I took it apart to look, a TDM 22510 contactor was installed. It receives a phase that is connected in parallel to three terminals, then at the output it all goes to the boiler's triple circuit breaker, plus the control contact from the thermostat.

After studying it, I discovered that it seems like you can replace this contactor with a solid-state relay, 60 amperes so that there is a reserve. I searched online stores and found that you can get exactly the same ones as ours, but much cheaper. Tell me, who is an expert, is it possible to install such a relay instead of a contactor? And how best to connect it.

Answer: The relay can be installed. Take one with 220 volt control. In your case, three-phase is better. Just remove the starter and install a SSR instead. You need to take at least a 2-fold margin. For you - at least 40 A per phase (for you a channel, since you have only one phase) i.e. 3x40A. Why? Because all this will get very hot for you. And when heated, the withstand current of semiconductors decreases.

Question: Miass el. is connected. boiler-electric water heater EVPM 9 kW. After 3 days of use (used in a heated floor system), the heating elements either do not turn off at all until you move the thermostat knob downward, although the shutdown click is heard in the boiler or 1 heating element turns off and the second one will work until you turn blue. I tried changing the temperature and turning on the heating elements 3 at a time, still one of them wouldn’t turn off. If I understand correctly, the thermostat has failed. How to fix it?

Answer: If one of the heating elements does not turn off, then it is not a thermostat, it looks more like a magnetic starter. And it looks like the thermostat doesn’t work either, if you have to manually move the knob downwards (I had the same symptoms, but all my heating elements turned off). It is called a capillary thermostat.

Question: I’ve been using the EVPM-12 electric boiler in my house for the second week. I can't figure out if my thermostat is working. I go up to the boiler - always at work. As long as the thermostat is not turned down, the heating elements are not turned off. Maybe he still cuts them off periodically, but he doesn’t have the patience to wait. How does your thermostat work? How often does the heating element turn off?

Answer: Check on the meter how many kilowatts are burned per day. Divide by 24 hours. If it turns out to be more than 12 kW per hour, then the electric water heater works without turning off. if my sensor was stuck, then there would be heat in the house, if the return is much colder than the hot outlet, and the boiler does not turn off, then you have losses of more than 12 kilowatts.

Question: An evpm-9 electric boiler is installed, the question is this: all three heating elements are turned on, but the temperature regulator is set to zero, and the temperature begins to rise, it rose to 40 degrees by itself. Is this normal or is there some kind of malfunction?

Answer: Most likely, your thermostat has failed; the bimetallic plate in it is closed. You can turn the knob and listen for any clicks. If there is, then the plate opens in it and it is serviceable. So the reason is different. The starter may also be stuck if you have one. The reasons may be different, but in any case, when the regulator is turned off, no load should be applied to the heating elements.

Question: My boiler somehow started heating poorly, 2 heating elements are turned on, but it’s as if there’s only one heating element. Or so it seems to me. How to check them? I thought that if the heating element burned out, the machine would start shutting down.

Answer: The machine will start to “cut out” if there is a short circuit, but if there is a break, it will not start. Turn off all electrical consumers except the boiler and check the power consumption on the meter.

Question: Installed and connected the email. boiler EVPM-9 last season. Over the course of the winter, all the buttons that were replaced under warranty burned out (melted and jammed) and also burned out by spring. In summer, powerful switches and a new capillary thermostat are installed on the lid. boiler
works, but the hysteresis of the new thermostat is 15.

That is, long-term deep cooling - we freeze at 15C and, it seems, consumes more electricity. In this case, when cooling to 30C (lowest point), the pressure drops to zero. When you turn on the heating element, you hear a boiling sound for a short time. How to fix it? The expansion tank is installed in the system.

Answer: The tank is designed to smooth out pressure surges from expansion of the coolant depending on temperature. If the pressure fluctuates so much, it means: The volume of the tank is significantly less than 0.1 of the volume of coolant in the system. The air pressure in the tank is significantly less or significantly more than normal (air has escaped or excess air has been pumped in). The tank membrane has leaked. The tank is full of air (in this case it still works, but the efficiency is low).

The next time the pressure in the heating system drops to zero (or better yet, disconnect the tank during these manipulations), check the pressure in the expansion tank. It should be... there is even a formula for calculation, but let's do it simpler - it should be 0.9 - 1.1 bar. After we have “corrected” the pressure in the tank, we add coolant to the heating system (cold! This is important), achieving a pressure 0.2-0.3 bar higher than the preliminary pressure in the RB. That is - 1.1 - 1.5 bar.

OPERATION AND REPAIR OF BOILERS

Description of the connection diagram for an electric heating boiler

The reason for the popularity of connecting an electric boiler to the heating system of a private home is the ease of installation and ease of calculation. Unlike gas devices, they can be embedded anywhere in the system, which is very convenient. In addition, electric boilers are environmentally friendly and effective way heating

Nuances of work

Electric heat generators have high efficiency, which means they are suitable for large areas. Electrode boilers are the most economical of all.

All electric boilers equipped with a regulation system for temperature control and a stabilizer that protects against power surges - the devices are almost always sensitive to them. By the way, the main problem in calculating an electric boiler is most often the load on the network, which, as a rule, is higher than normal.

Components

Correct connection of the electric boiler to the heating system ensures further trouble-free operation and efficiency. The electric boiler installation system consists of the following components:

    • apparatus;
    • temperature sensors;
    • radiators;
    • drain and shut-off valves;
    • expansion tank;
    • circulation pump and filter.

Choosing a place and rules

Installing an electric boiler is only possible on a wall lined with non-flammable material and preferably in a non-residential area, although a kitchen would also work well. It is also necessary to provide for the possibility of water leakage: if such a place is located next to the boiler, this creates a danger of short circuit and fire.

Know for safety

According to established standards, there must be a distance of at least 5 cm from the electric boiler to the walls. The free space in front of it is provided at 70 cm, at least 80 cm at the top, and at least 50 cm at the bottom.

If the boiler consumes no more than 3.5 kW, it can be connected to a regular electrical outlet. Boilers with a power of 3.5-7 kW are connected directly to the panel with a dedicated cable. They can be powered by 220 V.

A separate cable is not a whim of the manufacturer: the safety instructions limit the maximum current at the socket to 16 A. But boilers with an electrical power of 7 kW or more are powered only by 380 V.

Useful features and disadvantages

It is also worth considering installing a universal solid fuel boiler with built-in electric heating elements. Some models even have hob, which will not require additional external finishing.

Electric boilers can easily withstand power outages for up to 6 months. It makes them good option in case of irregular use of the system or in case of interruptions in the supply of electricity necessary for heating a private home.

The disadvantage of using an electric boiler is the need for powerful supply cables with a large cross-section.

Installation procedures

To hang the device you need mounting plate, which is included in the delivery package: it is attached to the wall with four dowels or anchor bolts with mandatory horizontal and vertical alignment. If it is a floor-standing boiler, then it is installed on a special stand.

The device must be grounded, inspected and ensured that it is in correct position, the water pressure in the system is normal, and all communications are connected.

Electric heating units must be connected with a wire whose cross-section is indicated in the documentation for the equipment. Wires are carried in special protective boxes.

Scheme options

There are various schemes: wiring diagram for an electric boiler with heating radiators, diagrams with the possibility of installing a cascade. Last option used when large areas need to be heated. To operate devices in a cascade, the terminals of the control unit are connected to the terminals of the controlled one. If the installation system is controlled by a room regulator, then its control contacts are connected to the terminals of the leading equipment.

Heating apparatus piping

Tying can be carried out using a direct or mixing scheme. The direct scheme involves adjusting the temperatures with a burner, the mixing scheme involves a mixer with a servo drive. The binding is carried out as follows.
The boiler manifold is installed, a pipe of the required diameter is connected to the boiler.

A three-way mixing valve is installed at the inlet, which will regulate the temperature. A circulation pump is installed on the return line and a control unit is mounted. After piping, you can fill the system with coolant and test the operation of the equipment for correctness.

Do not underestimate this stage: in reality, it is not as simple and insignificant as it might seem. Normal piping allows you to use equipment without an automation system, and this greatly reduces costs. Therefore, it must be performed at a professional level and taking into account the design features of the system and boiler.

The wiring of an electric boiler must be done by a specialist. If you still have to do it yourself, then you need already assembled distribution units.

Connecting an electric boiler to the heating system

An electric heating boiler is a simple device, the “composition” of which includes a heat exchanger, a metal container and a controller. Its peculiarity is that electricity is converted into heating the coolant (water, oil or antifreeze), rather than hard species fuel.

Today, such devices are widely used for heating offices, warehouses, garages, and shops. An electric boiler is also popular as a component of a heating system in a private home. This is explained, first of all, by the ease of use of the device. However, such a heat generator has other advantages:

  1. The power control system allows you to adjust as accurately as possible temperature regime in the house;
  2. Silent;
  3. It runs only on electricity, therefore, it is absolutely environmentally friendly;
  4. Safe due to the absence of open flame;
  5. Such a boiler is devoid of mechanisms that directly affect each other, and therefore is resistant to wear;
  6. Compact;
  7. Does not require constant attention;
  8. Efficient (efficiency is 100%);
  9. Does not require special permission self-installation.

The only negative is that there are frequent malfunctions during power outages or power surges. In addition, already at first after the purchase the question arises: “How to connect an electric heating boiler?” This can be done without the help of a specialist, with your own hands, if you take into account a number of features.

Where to start

In order to connect an electric boiler. First of all, you need to draw up a wiring diagram. Its type is determined by the power of the device and the type of system (single or double circuit).

The only thing needed the condition for installing such a heat generator is uninterrupted power supply .

Where to install and how

Connecting an electric boiler to the heating system is simple and this is another reason why such heat generators are in demand. Great value here has a voltage, based on which you need to correctly calculate the installation diagram and choose the model that suits you (the difference between specific models will be explained to you by a consultant in the store or you can find out from the video on our website).

Different models have different wattages, which affects what kind of line they will need. According to this criterion today stands out two types of electric boilers: floor-mounted and wall-mounted. The first view is different high power(more than 60 kW), the second, correspondingly smaller (from 5 to 60 kW).

Important: for any type of electric generator with a power of more than 12 kW, a three-phase network is required. In other cases, two-phase is sufficient. In addition, when installing, the lower pipe must be located below the radiator so that water (oil or antifreeze) does not remain in the system.

As for the installation location, it can be any room, the main thing is that there is always unhindered access to the device. However, as practice shows, most often they choose the kitchen or some other non-residential premises. Much more important is the absence of flammable materials on the wall where the boiler will hang. If you doubt that you understood everything correctly, we advise you to find a suitable video and check this information with a clear example.

Preparing the electric boiler

When we talk about preparation, we mean a full check of the device’s serviceability, namely:

  1. Damage to the body (dents, scratches). If there are any, it is better to return the product to the store where the purchase was made.
  2. Wiring conditions. If any damage is detected, temporary twisting of the wires is allowed, but later they must be replaced with new ones.
  3. No accumulation of dust .
  4. RCD work, which is necessary in case of power surges. A switch is mounted near the electric boiler in the wall of the house. It must also be accessible to the public.

Installation nuances

First of all, it should be said that there are two types of systems with an electric heat generator:

  1. With natural pressure on the coolant (the electric boiler is located at the bottom of the circuit).
  2. With forced circulation (video from detailed analysis You can find the pump installation on the website). The boiler can be located at any point in the chain (except for the highest).

Many private home owners install not one, but two electric boilers. "just in case". If the backup device does not operate at full capacity, then the electric boiler is installed in parallel, so that both generators work with the same power.

Strapping scheme (“classic” version)

The connection diagram of the electric boiler must ensure that there are no significant temperature changes. Most often used double-circuit boilers . passing through the small circuit, the water (oil or antifreeze) heats up, after which it flows through the large circuit. This also needs to be taken into account in the diagram.

Electric boiler wiring requires the presence of:

  1. Brackets;
  2. Filter;
  3. Shut-off valves;
  4. Valves (check and safety valves);
  5. Expansion tank;
  6. Pump (if required);
  7. Thermometer and pressure gauge;

The following types of strapping are distinguished:

  1. With circuit installation hot water(oil or antifreeze): before entering the tap, the coolant passes through an electric boiler;
  2. With connection to the heated floor system;
  3. Regular electrical connection.

When piping a double-circuit boiler, its type is determined by the model (with or without a mixer). It is quite difficult to install it at home with your own hands, since here, along with the correct connection to the electrical network, you also have to control the connection to the hot water supply.

Each model has its own connection diagram for the electric boiler (it is included when purchased along with the device). If you don’t have enough time or you’re not sure that you can do everything correctly yourself, it’s better not to start tying, relying only on your intuition and videos on the Internet. For 5-30 thousand rubles, specialists will do such work. But if you make mistakes at the first stage, you can subsequently not only incur much greater expenses, but also endanger yourself and other residents of a private house.

Conclusion

The electric boiler must be connected to the heating system via a separate power line from the meter. Don't forget about power! By connecting a powerful electric boiler to a two-phase grid, there is a risk of leaving without light not only the power supply system of your private home, but also the entire area.
Particular care should be taken when installing grounding: inexperienced owners often connect it to the zero phase of the wiring. Firstly, this is prohibited by safety regulations, and secondly, the RCD will perceive this as a short circuit in the generator.

Installing an electric boiler (especially a double-circuit one) and drawing up an electrical diagram sometimes causes difficulties even for professionals. Of course, you can do this at home, with your own hands, but it’s safer to trust an experienced specialist. Moreover, if a malfunction is detected, you can always take advantage of the repair guarantee. However, if you still decide to act on your own, we recommend that you re-read the article again and clarify all the details that give rise to doubt.

How to connect an electric boiler

From the previous article about how to choose an electric boiler We know that there are three methods of heating the coolant. Accordingly, there are three types of boilers: heating element, induction and electrode. Today we will tell you about connecting an electric boiler to a heating system. Installation is carried out in two stages. The first stage is connecting to the heating system, and the second - to the electrical network. Considering that the units can operate on both 220 and 380 volts, the connection diagrams to the power source are slightly different. You need to know how to properly connect an electric heating boiler to a network with different power levels.

Connecting a heating element electric boiler

Please note that electric boilers do not require a chimney.

The heating element electric boiler is the most common for heating residential premises. This is because it is cheap and easy to maintain. Connecting an electric boiler to a heating system using heating elements begins with allocating space for its installation. In principle, it does not matter where to put it, the main thing is that it is convenient for you. Such units do not emit any gases, so they do not need a chimney, unlike a gas boiler. We talked about installing a chimney in a heating system in one of the previous articles.

Before connecting an electric boiler to the heating system, you need to determine the installation method and the number of circuits. There are hanging and floor-standing models that can work on several fronts at the same time. They heat the house and supply hot water. In each case, it is necessary to ensure that the unit is securely fastened. If the boiler is single-circuit, then it will have only two pipes. Water will flow into one from the return, and the heated coolant will come out of the second.

In dual-circuit models, there are also two more pipes, respectively. This is the input and output to the DHW circuit.

Before connecting the electric boiler to the heating system, you need to prepare seats on the circuit.

The heating element boiler is connected to the circuit using American wires. The connection must be such that when the American ones are untwisted, they remain on the pipes. For compaction you can use:

At the junction of the American connection and the boiler, sealing materials are not used, since the design of the nut includes a rubber gasket. It is mandatory that the connection diagram of the electric boiler to the heating system includes a mud trap in front of the heater. Garbage must not get on the heating elements. If the design of the heating element boiler does not include a circulation pump, then it must be installed separately. The pump is placed in front of the boiler and after the expansion tank.

After the boiler is already connected to the entire heating system, it can be connected to the network. The boiler may already have sensors and serious “brains” installed that regulate the operation of the heater in accordance with user settings. Simpler devices do not have such frills, and if you want to expand the functionality of the boiler, you can assemble a separate electrical control unit. Control units can be designed for 220 and 380 volts, while there are units operating in both modes. Switch to the desired voltage manually.

The documents for the heater contain requirements for the thickness of the copper wire and recommendations on how to connect an electric heating boiler. In a single-phase network, a three-core cable is suitable for the unit, and in a three-phase network, a five-core cable:

All electric boilers must be grounded - this is mandatory. Over time, you can expand the range of capabilities of the heater by adding new sensors and automation to the connection diagram of the electric heating boiler.

Another alternative method- This is heating the house with convectors. which heat each room separately.

Connecting an electrode electric boiler

Please note that the pump is not positioned correctly.

The electrode boiler is the smallest representative in the niche of home heaters. Undoubtedly there is different models, with several electrodes, but the most common and famous small single-electrode boiler. Such a unit can be installed on the circuit either in a vertical or horizontal position. In addition, the circuit for connecting an electric boiler to a heating system may consist of several heaters. They can be assembled into unique registers from boilers by serial or parallel connection.

The device does not have a built-in safety group, therefore the connection diagram for the electric heating boiler after it in the supply provides for:

It is very important to make reliable grounding. The coolant is heated by electric waves; if the grounding falls off, someone who touches the pipes will receive an electric shock.

Devices up to seven kilowatts operate on 220 volts. More powerful units require a 380 volt network. Location of contacts on the electrode boiler:

  • the electrode is a phase (one or three contacts, depending on the network 220 or 380 volts);
  • the housing is zero and grounding.

Electrical diagram connecting an electric heating boiler:

This diagram shows how to connect an electrode boiler to a three-phase network.

Only phase wires are suitable for the electrode, and on the body there are two contacts with zero and ground. The pump is connected via the control unit. The minimum that should be included when connecting electric heating boilers is temperature sensors that regulate the operation of the heater. It is possible to assemble any control that suits your operating conditions. You need to install a pump in front of the electrode boiler, despite the fact that even without it the boiler is capable of raising water several meters. Connecting an electric heating boiler of the ion type is impossible without salt preparation of the coolant.

Such units can only work if the water in the system has a certain level of salt. By adjusting the amount of salt in the water, you can reduce or increase the resistance of the coolant. The boiler passport contains a plate that indicates the necessary parameters for the heater to operate, such as current strength. It is inversely proportional to the amount of salt in the coolant. To control the quality and composition of the coolant, it is better to install a special filter for it.

To make water heating with your own hands you will need a tool and minimal skills. There is nothing particularly difficult if everything is done in a timely manner and correctly.

Interesting facts about heating country house hydrogen can be read at this address.

Connecting an induction electric boiler

This is how an induction electric boiler is suspended. The fastening must be reliable, it is quite heavy.

The most common induction boiler has the shape of a pipe with a cross-section of about 20 cm and a length of almost a meter. This is a domestic product called “VIN”. The electric boiler is connected to the heating system through two pipes:

Such a boiler does not have any additional circuits, only high-temperature heating circuits. The device is hung on a wall no lower than 80 cm, with nothing touching the body along the perimeter of 30 cm. Circulation without a pump is impossible. The supercharger is placed, as always, in front of the boiler. At the feed it is installed safety group for heating system. Under the cover of the device there is access to the terminals. There can be two or four of them, depending on whether the unit is three-phase or single-phase. The device must be grounded.

An induction boiler can easily cope with large volumes of coolant, so its installation can be accompanied by the installation of a heat accumulator. These are tanks containing coolant with a volume of 200 liters or more. The average size of a heat accumulator is 300-500 liters. It collects heat and releases it when the boiler is turned off, thus increasing the time between turning on the heater.

Electric boiler connection diagram: reliable protection and energy savings

Greetings, comrades! Do you know how to connect an electric boiler to electricity? Are you interested in what elements should the boiler piping include? Today I want to answer these questions in detail and as clearly as possible and tell you which electric boiler connection diagram will allow you to heat your home at minimal cost.

Electrical boiler room diagram with system automatic control boiler power.

Before undertaking the implementation of any project, you need to clearly formulate its goals. Here is their list.

Safety

It consists of three components:

  1. Reliable automatic shutdown . The electrical circuit must prevent electric shock to the user and ensure that the power is turned off in the event of a short circuit;
  2. Correct wiring calculation. When the boiler is operating at full power, it should not heat up: high temperature may damage the insulation. This is especially important when installing hidden wiring;

Overheating of the wiring led to a fire in the basement. The calculation of its cross-section must be taken as seriously as possible.

  1. Coolant pressure control. As the temperature of water or antifreeze increases, their volume increases. In a closed circuit, this means a rapid increase in pressure, threatening pipes and radiators. The boiler piping circuit must prevent exceeding the critical pressure;

For a closed (that is, not communicating with the atmosphere and operating with excess pressure) autonomous heating system, the norm is 1.5 kgf/cm 2. The maximum permissible pressure is 2.5-3 kgf/cm 2.

Economical

An electric boiler is the source of expensive heat among all modern boilers for autonomous heating. The electrical power of a boiler with a minimum error is equal to its thermal power, that is, the price of a kilowatt-hour of thermal energy is equal to the cost of a kilowatt-hour of electricity (at the beginning of 2017 - about 5 rubles).

For comparison, the owner of a gas boiler costs heat 7-8 times cheaper (about 70 kopecks per kWh), and a wood-burning boiler costs four times less (1.2 rubles/kWh).

Relative cost of thermal energy obtained from different sources. Prices change from year to year, but their ratio remains constant.

The main reason for popularity electric heating- its complete autonomy. The boiler does not require the owner’s attention from the word “at all”: it is capable of maintaining the temperature you set in the house indefinitely. However, the owner of an electric boiler, of course, wants to reduce his electricity bills. I will tell you how to do this in the corresponding section of the article.

Automatic shutdown

In case of any deviation from the normal mode, the protective devices in the boiler power circuit must turn it off as quickly as possible. The electric boiler automation circuit must include two protective devices:

RCD(residual current device, or, more correctly, differential current device). It compares the currents at the input and output of the boiler, recording leaks over 30 milliamps.

The RCD is triggered, in particular, when a pet or person touches the terminals of the equipment and when the insulation breaks with current leakage onto the grounded structures of the building (for example, onto the reinforcement mesh of the foundation).

The RCD is triggered almost instantly: turning off the power takes a split second.

Circuit breaker. Its task is to turn off the power when the rated current level is exceeded. This can happen if there is a short circuit in the wiring, if the shell of the heating element is destroyed by corrosion, or if there is an excessive salt content in the coolant with which the electrode boiler operates.

The response speed depends on the deviation of the current from the rated value and can vary from 1-2 seconds to several minutes. The operation current of the machine should differ as little as possible from the maximum current during normal operation of the boiler.

For example, a 25A circuit breaker with single-phase power supply (220 volts) ensures safe operation of a device with a power of 25x220=5500 W.

The so-called differential circuit breaker performs the functions of both protective devices: it provides protection for both differential currents and overcurrent.

Wiring heating sources can be:

  • Wire with a reduced cross-section;
  • Detachable connections (sockets, terminals, etc.).

It will help to completely eliminate heating of the wire simple instructions: the cross-section of each copper wire core must be at least 1 square millimeter at 10 amperes peak current. I emphasize: peak, that is, corresponding to the maximum power of the boiler. For a supply voltage of 220 volts, 10 amperes correspond to a power of 2.2 kW (220x10/1000), for a voltage of 380 volts - 3.8 kW (380x10/1000).

Correspondence table for the wiring cross-section of the power of a three-phase boiler.

Connecting the boiler through a regular outlet is only permissible with a power of up to 3.5 kW. A heating boiler with a power of up to 8 kilowatts can be connected to one power phase with a dedicated cable to the panel; A higher power device must be powered from a 380 volt network. The higher the supply voltage at a constant power consumption, the lower the currents in the wiring and the less heating of the wires and terminal connections.

In a private house with wooden walls wiring is laid only in metal pipe(steel, copper or corrugated stainless steel). The requirement is related to fire safety: The metal shell will prevent the tree from catching fire in the event of a short circuit.

We install and connect an electric heating boiler with our own hands

A modern electric boiler is good decision issue with heating, as well as hot water supply to your home. Having a number of advantages compared to other boilers, they are increasingly becoming the choice of Russian buyers when it comes to autonomous system heating. However, the electric boiler still needs to be installed correctly, and although this is not the most difficult task, it nevertheless requires separate lighting.

Advantages of an electric boiler

Why is an electric boiler so good and why is it distinguished from other options? Well, for starters, it’s worth highlighting at least the simplest things, like small dimensions, environmental friendliness and almost complete absence noise during operation. That is, you can easily install such a boiler in your kitchen, without puzzling yourself with the question of whether you need to look for a separate room for the boiler room.

It is thanks to its small dimensions and weight that the electric boiler is easy to transport and install.

True, there is one strong caveat - using electricity to heat a house is quite an expensive business, so weigh the pros and cons before you go shopping.

How to install correctly

To make it easier for you to understand the main points related to the installation of an electric boiler, you should understand its essence. Namely, especially the design. It is such that electric boilers are mounted on the wall, while they are single-circuit and do not have a built-in boiler.

To provide a home hot water, you need to purchase a water heater, which is usually instantaneous or capacitive. In the case when the equipment is built into the system and serves as a backup heat supplier, while the main boiler runs on diesel, gas or solid fuel, it becomes possible to connect it to the boiler.

The rules for installing an electric boiler are described in the documents that come with it.

All electric boilers have a number of requirements:

Installation must be carried out by a service center specialist who has permission to carry out electrical installation work;

Before hanging an electric boiler on the wall, make sure that it can support its weight without various types of deformation;

To facilitate access to the unit when carrying out repair work or maintenance, leave some free space on one or more sides.

Installation steps

Installation of an electric boiler is the simplest in comparison with the installation of other types of boilers. Since electricity will be involved in the heating process, there is no need to store and supply gas or liquid and solid fuel, or create a chimney. Installation of an electric boiler can be divided into several stages:

The fastenings necessary for the boiler are installed on the wall, the brackets are leveled and care is taken to ensure that there are no distortions;

It is necessary to create grounding;

The boiler is connected to the heating system. The circulation pump and expansion tank, if not built into the boiler design, must be installed separately;

Start-up and commissioning of equipment is underway. The system is checked for leaks in all areas, after which excess air is removed and the operation of the unit is checked in all modes.

Before installing the equipment, you need to check that all tools are at hand. These include:

Instructions included with the unit;

Pipes of suitable dimensions;

A cable having a certain cross-section;

Hardware with which the boiler is attached to the wall;

Mounting plate;

So, check the wall to which the boiler will be attached and make sure it is able to bear the required load. we leave a little free space to access the boiler (usually it is indicated in the instructions) and install the unit, checking the evenness of its location using a level.

The wall on which the boiler is mounted must be made of non-combustible materials.

The mounting plate will be useful to you for proper installation of the boiler. Pipelines should be selected based on which pump is installed in the system.

Basically, installing an electric boiler is not difficult, however, as in any business, there are some interesting aspects. Thus, boilers with low power always work well in a regular network with a voltage of 220V. Another thing is that if the model is powerful enough, it needs to be connected to a three-phase network. This is why it is so important to correctly calculate the cable cross-section. A properly selected cable can withstand the power of the unit and pass the required current without failure.

After the boiler is installed, the heating system and water supply system pipes are connected to it. This is where couplings and flanges come in handy.

The next step is to connect to the mains. RCDs and circuit breakers with the required ratings are pre-installed, and grounding work is carried out. The cable is equipped with a switch, the distance between the contacts of which is 3 mm. As soon as the device is connected to the system, you can draw water, start the unit and check it in action.

There is almost no difference between installing wall-mounted and floor-standing boilers, except that floor-standing boilers are installed on a special stand.

Features of boiler installation

If you feel strong enough to install an electric boiler yourself, take the advice of knowledgeable specialists. It is best if the electric heating source is used as a backup - this will allow the resulting heat to be spent more efficiently in the room.

Back- safety valve, pressure gauge and air vent are the elements that you will become familiar with if you install an electrode-type boiler.

If you have an open heating system, then a shut-off valve is installed on the section of the pipeline that comes from the expansion tank.

Used for grounding copper wire with a four-millimeter cross-section when connecting the conductor to the neutral terminal of the equipment. It can be found on the boiler body in its lower part.

It is best if the boiler is built into a new system rather than into an existing circuit. Otherwise, the circuit must be rinsed thoroughly using the products intended for this purpose.

After installing the electric boiler, make sure that all the rules safe operation are met, and the boiler itself operates normally in all modes. In this case, the installation can be considered successful.

Attention, TODAY only!

Why is an electric boiler considered one of the most good options heating equipment in a private house, this is because the system is simple, environmentally friendly and understandable. In addition, the units are silent and have decent efficiency. The fact that the design does not require constant attention from the owner of the house is also very important.

General information on the heating scheme of a private house with an electric boiler

Of course there are some general requirements for a room where a heat generator will need to be installed. And in this matter it is recommended to follow the Electrical Installation Rules. To do everything right, make sure whether a special permit is required for this heating system.

General rules for installing an electric boiler:

  • It is good if the unit is located in a furnace or similar technical room;
  • Only factory-made heating element boilers can be installed even in the kitchen, but this is an exception;
  • Power cables cannot be laid under heating or water supply pipes; if this is impossible, take all possible measures to protect the cable from water getting on it (this can be a mounting box made of plastic or metal);
  • It is also necessary to observe the cross-section of the cores power cable, which corresponds to current and power consumption;
  • When connecting the boiler to pipelines, the pipelines must not be allowed to load the body of the unit with their weight;
  • Securely fix the pipes to the walls.

Today, electrode, heating element, and induction electrical installations can be used to heat a house.

Features of connecting an electric boiler to the heating system

First, the unit itself is installed. It must be securely attached to the wall. If this is a heating element boiler, then it is suspended at a level not lower than one and a half meters from the floor. If the unit is electrode or induction, that is, it can be installed lower. That is, this is due to the convenience of tying. The electrode and induction heat generators are mounted vertically.

It is easy to connect a heating element boiler with a circulation pump and automatic safety system to the heating system. There is a certain scheme according to which the strapping is performed.

Please note the following points:

  • The outlet pipes are connected to the pipelines through ball valves; there are American valves;
  • A membrane expansion tank is connected to the return line, and a strainer-mud filter is also installed there;
  • An additional ball valve is placed under the truck to make it easier to clean;
  • The pipe for emptying the pipelines usually needs to be cut into the return pipe near the heat generator, together with shut-off equipment.

This scheme is really not that complicated. It will be more difficult to connect an induction boiler. Just like connecting an electrode-type boiler, it is more complicated than the method described above.

The nuances of connecting an electric boiler to the heating system

These units do not include pumps, which are used separately in the piping. And this is how boilers work, which requires their inclusion in the safety group scheme. It includes a pressure gauge, an automatic air vent and a safety valve. The valve must be set to the response pressure - this is recorded in the technical documentation, which is always attached to the unit.

I would like to note this point as well. Often, home owners install an electric boiler only as a kind of addition to a solid fuel boiler. This, as far as the comfort of using such units is concerned, is quite convenient. Particularly at night. The firewood in the firebox has burned out, but you need to put it in with your own hands, and who will go to do this at night?

So the backup electric heater is working. And it already maintains the temperature in the house until the morning. Considering the fact that electricity rates are lower at night, this is also economically beneficial.

How to connect an electric boiler to electricity 220

First, read the instructions for using the heat generator. The instructions indicate the minimum cross-section of the power cable - and it must be met. If suddenly there is no such information (which is unlikely), then you can use the universal table of cable cross-section for an electric boiler.

Next important point when connecting to the electrical network, the scheme for connecting the boiler’s power circuit to the home network certainly provides for an RCD (which means a residual current device), as well as circuit breakers. These are the requirements of the Rules; it all works to ensure that when connecting to the network, a person is not struck by an electric shock through negligence or ignorance of safety precautions.

Supervisory authorities and electric boiler installation

And yet, do supervisory authorities control the installation of such a system? It is believed that there are no specific regulations here. That is, you don’t have to ask. But if you, nevertheless, ask the relevant authorities about obtaining permission, it will definitely not be worse. But it is necessary to agree on the allocation of capacity for equipment if consumption does not fit within the framework of the contract.

The meter must be installed with two or even more gradations of tariffs. As for the monthly price for heating with such an electric boiler, if there is a temporary tariff, it will be significantly reduced.

You can, of course, figure out all the issues yourself - from connecting the heat regulator to supplying the room with suitable radiators. You can add another heating system to this, giving preference, for example, warm floor. But sometimes it’s worth soberly assessing your strengths by inviting someone to install the system electric thermostat a specialist who will also advise you in detail on the operation of the device. If you don’t understand designations like 220 V and 380 V, it’s definitely better not to get into areas such as heating systems without the help of a specialist.
