Selection of ready-made tables in furniture store huge, and it won’t be difficult to choose the model that fits perfectly into the interior. But it’s even easier and cheaper to make a coffee table with your own hands. This does not require either expensive materials or special tools. And all the work, even for a beginner in carpentry, will take a maximum of two to three hours.

Since there is a wide variety of wooden coffee tables, drawings of several models will be given below. They differ not only in appearance, but also in complexity of implementation.

Rustic style

To make such a piece of furniture, it is not advisable to use laminated wood. The table will look truly chic if you make it from solid oak, hornbeam, or boxwood. But since these wood species are very expensive, they can be replaced with birch, spruce or ash. A big advantage would be the use of old boards that bear the imprint of time, or artificially aged ones. This material does not need to be painted or varnished; it looks harmonious in itself.

Blueprints

    2. Cut out the parts according to the drawn outline.
    3. Sand each cut with sandpaper or treat grinder. If the surface of the wood is rough, it should also be brought to complete smoothness.
  2. Creation of technological holes. The task is to drill them in places where the parts will be fastened with wooden tenons. These are the connection points of the legs with horizontally laid transverse side strips in the lower and upper parts, as well as the connection points of the planks that make up the tabletop. To make work easier, the tabletop can be assembled not with tenons, but with the help of several slats attached from the inside with self-tapping screws and glue.
  3. Cutting out the thorns. Based on the diameter and length of the resulting holes, wooden tenons are prepared.
  4. Product assembly. It is performed in several stages:
    1. First, the tabletop planks are mounted to each other. Regardless of the type of connection used, on wooden tenons or on slats nailed across, it does not hurt to use glue at the joints. The main thing is to make sure that drops of glue do not leak onto the front side.
    2. After this, the legs and side strips are assembled, the bottom shelf and decorative cross bars on the sides are mounted.
    3. The tabletop is screwed to the upper side planks with self-tapping screws.

Blueprints

Drawings are for reference only wooden elements table. It makes no sense to make a transformation mechanism with your own hands, since buying a ready-made one will cost less and significantly reduce time costs.

Tools and materials

To make a transforming coffee table you will need the following tools:

  • Screwdriver.
  • Knife saw.
  • Electric drill.
  • Sander.
  • Jigsaw.
  • Square or ruler.
  • A simple pencil.

From Supplies should be prepared:

  • Boards from natural wood or MDF, chipboard, OSB panels.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Metal furniture corners.
  • Loops.
  • Optional - varnish, paint and stain.
  • Tassels.
  • Wood glue.
  • Sandpaper (if you don't have a sander).
  • If laminated wood panels are used, you will also need a special thermal tape for decorating the edges.

Completing of the work

Before you get to work, you should find a suitable transformation mechanism on sale. In order for the finished table to be convenient to use, you need to check the smoothness of movement in the store and make sure there are no creaks or stalls.

When all the materials and tools are prepared, you can begin making the table. This process consists of several stages:

  1. Marking wood. Using a pencil and a square, lines are drawn on the boards to indicate the edges of the parts. You can immediately number each element so that you don’t get confused later when assembling.
  2. Sawing out parts. Using a hacksaw and a jigsaw, cut out the parts along the marked lines. This work should be done carefully, as one awkward movement can ruin the material.
  3. Grinding. Grinding machine Each part is processed until it becomes absolutely smooth. There should not be a single splinter left on the boards, which could then get caught on clothing or cause injury.
  4. Impregnation with stain. This is done in one or several layers depending on the desired color of the wood. Before applying each subsequent layer, you need to wait until the previous one has dried.
  5. Painting or varnishing. After treatment with stain, the parts are varnished. If it has not been used, you can paint them in any desired color.
  6. Product assembly. Guided by the above diagram, the table is assembled using self-tapping screws, gluing all wood joints with wood glue for reliability. The load-bearing sidewalls are also reinforced from the inside with furniture corners. The two parts of the table top are fastened together with hinges so that the protruding part of the hinges is on the wrong side and does not spoil appearance unfolded table.

Table top decoration

To give your table more personality and make it unique, you can decorate the tabletop. The most popular options are aquarium, decoupage, mosaic and craquelure.

Aquarium

A tabletop base is made with small sides on the sides, various shells, sea stones and other decor are laid out on it, and then poured epoxy resin. By the way, it is not at all necessary to design the tabletop in nautical style, you can create any compositions that suit the interior.

Decoupage

Decoupage allows you to decorate the tabletop with any design you like. You can buy ready-made pictures in the store; all you have to do is glue them to the surface and varnish them. They also use paper napkins with images and even print the pictures on a printer.

The decoupage technique is performed as follows:

  1. The napkin is peeled off and the part that will be used for decoration is cut out with nail scissors.
  2. The cut piece is placed face down on a plastic bag or cling film.
  3. Pass over the napkin with a damp brush (not dry and not so wet that water drips from it).
  4. The part of the tabletop where the design will be located is smeared with glue, then a napkin is placed on top of the adhesive layer, wet side down, and the paper is slowly peeled off from the polyethylene, using a brush with glue for this.
  5. When the drawing is completely transferred to the table, it is covered with another layer of glue.
  6. If wrinkles appear, they are removed by ironing them through tracing paper.
  7. You can use paints to draw contours and add shadows.
  8. After finishing the work, the tabletop is varnished.

Mosaic

The decoration looks very original and expensive mosaic tiles. You can buy everything you need to work with mosaics at a craft store, but you should come up with a pattern yourself.

Craquelure

A beautiful web of randomly located cracks forms on the surface of the tabletop if you cover it with a special craquelure varnish, which is sold in construction hypermarkets and large craft stores. This method can be used either on its own or in combination with mosaic or decoupage.

A coffee table made by yourself will not only become a wonderful addition interior, but also a reason for pride. After all, not every home has such unique and inimitable furniture.

An alternative to purchasing furniture is the opportunity to create it yourself from scrap materials. You can make an original coffee table with your own hands in a couple of hours. The process is simple and exciting even for a beginner. It requires initial skills in handling carpentry tools, ingenuity and a certain amount of aesthetic flair.

The coffee table comes in countless varieties.

  • minimum financial costs;
  • exclusivity of the model;
  • individual convenience.

    Which ones exactly? necessary materials will come in handy, depends on the basis of the item being collected. To make a coffee table with your own hands, you will need a variety of auxiliary things.

    First of all, the decor gives the table its appearance, so it would be appropriate to start from the end: with the decoration and decoration.

    It will be difficult to assemble an accurate and durable table structure without glue, varnish and sandpaper. Permanent paint will also come in handy - choose convenient sprays, they can quickly and without getting dirty to cover the entire surface of the tabletop. A good quality primer may be needed to cover the base and supports. You can buy it at a hardware store. Don’t forget the materials for decoration – fabrics of various textures and densities, lace, colored plastic or glass, etc.

    It will no longer be difficult to select a design from ready-made ones or to develop your own: the loads on the object are small, and if a flaw occurs, it is not difficult to redo it or do it again.

    Ancillary materials will not be superfluous - ordinary newspapers, large cardboard, plastic sheeting, so that “production” waste is not carried around the room.

    The cost of labor and money is nothing at all.

    To assemble the intended model, you need to prepare necessary tools.

    First of all, these are a hammer, scissors, and pliers. You will need different fasteners, furniture nails (regular and rivets) or screws of different sizes.

    You can decorate the table different ways, see fig.

    To quickly cut wood parts, you need a hacksaw. If there carpenter's table, and you have skills in such work, then having a chisel, cutter and plane will be a plus to process the wooden base with professional precision. To decorate the elements you will need a sharp chisel or a set of carpenter's knives.

    With the help of the most regular wallpaper You can quickly and inexpensively decorate the most ancient, shabby table, as long as it is strong.

    What the coffee table will be like is up to you to decide. Next, we decide on the design and construction.

    DIY coffee table made from pallets

    To quickly do beautiful furniture, often take wood as a basis. It can be made from a regular pallet. One product without gaps and four wooden supports is enough for self-creation beautiful table.

    1. We start making an original table from pallets with markings.
    2. Having decided on the dimensions and made all the necessary marks, we cut out the middle of the pallet: a flat surface should be on the front side, a raised surface - with symmetrically located bars - on the bottom.
    3. Treat the legs chosen for work (preferably carved) with a primer and let them dry.
    4. At this time, start tinting the top and sides of the tabletop.
    5. When all the elements have dried, you can begin to secure them. Use nails (or screws) and hardware to connect.

    Each layer, except the finishing one, is sanded after drying, but for this you need velvet sandpaper, which you can’t always find on sale.

    Such models look good if they are low. An interesting coffee table can be made from an already unnecessary radiator central heating. To do this, it must be painted evenly. Instead of a tabletop, you can take glass or a wide board that fits the size.

    You can bring back a pile of empty shells and sea pebbles from your vacation at sea.

    For mobility, wheels from an old baby stroller are often used. The construction of a furniture masterpiece will take a minimum of time and money.

    DIY coffee table from window and books

    You can find a new use for an outdated window - use it to create a table with your own hands. If necessary, sand the frames and coat them with paint. Not only can they be used as supports wooden legs(bars), but also old books that do not fit on the shelves.

    If you changed houses regular windows to metal-plastic ones, then you can make an interesting coffee table from one old window.

    A coffee table will be convenient in the country if you spend a lot of time there. You can apply a pattern or a thin layer of matting paint to the glass of such an original tabletop.

    Coffee table from the front door

    Unnecessary Entrance door can also serve as a base for your table. To do this, take its central part, and the rest go to the supporting sides, since the coffee table will not be very high. For greater stability, you can make the bottom shelf from chipboard.

    Well, if you replaced the input or interior doors, That old door use as material for a new table.

    Cover the surfaces of the product - tabletops and supports - with tinting. Matte varnish will look good.

    Often, outdated doors have embossed zoning; when using a table, this is convenient, since you can safely place a tray with dishes without fear that it will slip off.

    A table made from old furniture - a wardrobe or chest of drawers

    Sometimes it’s a pity to throw away good pieces of furniture that have gone out of fashion. They can serve as the basis for new products. Smooth cabinet doors, especially if they are varnished, are an excellent preparation. Legs are also useful - straight or carved, if the product is planned to be low. You can use two doors, connecting them with cut pieces from the side panels of the cabinet. This option requires very little time and is practically free.

    Wooden boxes for fruits, vegetables or other items are a universal material for creating furniture with your own hands.

    Chest drawers are suitable for a composite or solid table. Fitting is carried out by sawing off the protruding parts. The assembled tabletop is installed on any supports - for example, elements of the same chest of drawers, bars treated with a primer, books, etc.

    DIY stump table

    An unusual coffee table is made from a single piece of wood - a stump left over from a cut pine, birch or poplar. It should be wide enough and even, with beautiful rings. Depending on the height of the stump, you can choose from the following:

    • with a low tabletop on thin metal legs;
    • medium height without supports (the base of the stump serves as support);
    • low table on wheels.

    A sanded stump or log can be placed directly on the floor or wheels can be attached.

    If desired, you can leave the natural appearance of the stump - with bark (leaving it as is or varnishing it) or paint it in any color, after first removing the bark. White and beige tones look best.

    Suitcase table for travel lovers

    You can also use vintage voluminous suitcases as a table top. This original handmade coffee table will appeal to romantic people who like to frequently spend time on educational trips.

    Nowadays, coffee tables have finally gotten rid of the hypocrisy of their owners.

    The basis is an old suitcase, preferably made of thin wooden planes. Leave the locks in place; they serve as fasteners. You can also leave the straps. The suitcase can be tinted or left in natural form, depending on the condition of the surface. For legs can be used as wooden blocks(or carved furniture supports), and wheels.

    This kind of furniture is made from a wide variety of materials: wood, glass, steel, aluminum, plastic, chipboard and plywood.

    To make the surface more resistant to moisture, you can coat it with varnish. The fasteners here can be both bolts and hardware. You can drill holes for the legs in the bottom of the suitcase itself and secure them using iron rims with spacers.

    The edge of a table top made of solid wood or laminated furniture board should be processed with a router to give it beautiful shape and then sand it with sandpaper.

    Table made of logs for nature lovers

    Wood is a material that can be easily processed. Sand half a wide log and thinner logs. The bark on the sides and bottom of the countertop can be left or removed. For fastening, use nails and metal angles. Instead of legs made from logs, you can take metal ones or legs from old furniture.

    It seems as if this coffee table is made entirely of birch logs, but this is not the case.

    Making an exclusive coffee table from wood is quite simple. Ordinary logs will serve as both the base and supports.

    Reels as the basis of the product

    A coffee table made from a large cable reel looks very interesting. Firstly, the round shape looks harmonious. Secondly, it can be made rotating. Thirdly, the side cavity can be used for a variety of items - magazines, books, writing instruments, disks, additional cutlery (if they are not needed on the table during tea drinking).

    Large spools of industrial cable are a rare but ideal stock for coffee tables.

    Its side flat sides will serve as a table top.

    The coffee table can be made with or without supports, simply by placing the coil on its side. You can use the “Health” disk as a torque element.

    The cavities on the sides look more interesting if they are zoned symmetrically using wooden boards secured with glue.

    Making a glass table

    A DIY glass coffee table is very easy to make. The usual tabletop is used thick glass(square, rectangular, round), preferably hardened, since the material is quite fragile and can crack from impact or temperature changes.

    Glass – you can only use tempered glass, otherwise the reliability of the table will be in doubt.

    The coffee table can rest on wooden carved legs with a wide base, books, hemp and other elements. It is advisable to make a central support for it. The elements are attached with a special durable glue.

    The final stage is decoration

    When decorating a hand-made sample, the most different ideas. Smooth surfaces hold a pattern or ornament around the perimeter well, while non-uniform surfaces hold appliques and other elements well.

    When making a table with your own hands, you can use additional decorative inserts. If you're using a cable reel as a base, it often has a center hole. You can put a tall vase with dry plants or flowers in it.

    The material you choose for decoration should be abrasion resistant. The exception is elements designed to create the impression of a vintage product.

    The main thing here will be strict adherence to the proportions indicated in the drawing.

    Paint tinting can also act as decorative design. You can create patterned surfaces, add natural streaks to wooden surfaces, shade parts of the elements, creating the most advantageous look for your product.

    If the coffee table is unstable, then objects may slide off it, so you need to carefully adjust all the supports to the height. An embossed finish can also be used as an anti-slip measure.

    The finished product is treated with stain, painted, varnished or “aged” - as desired.

    For the manufacture of such models, absolutely different materials– fantasy will not allow you to limit your ideas. Try it out, come up with options for furnishings, this will make it look not only stylish, but also completely new.

    Wood is the easiest material to process and the most pliable.

Today I will tell you about creating a coffee table. In principle, it is not as difficult as it seems, you just need to have all the necessary tools and desire. And for work we need this:

  • furniture board or laminated chipboard;
  • jigsaw;
  • electric drill;
  • roulette;
  • pencil and ruler;
  • clamps;
  • decorative edge and iron;
  • different fasteners;
  • rollers;

Making a coffee table on wheels with your own hands

So how do we make a coffee table with your own hands at the lowest cost and at the same time so that it has an original shape?

First of all, we turn on our imagination and come up with the shape of the table, then we draw its diagram and decide on the dimensions. I came up with my own diagram of a coffee table and this is what its drawing will look like.

Coffee table diagram

Dimensions of the top cover of my future piece of furniture self made– 75x55 cm, and the bottom – 65x45 cm. The side parts have an arbitrary figured configuration. The middle shelf will serve as a stiffening rib with dimensions of 55x25 cm. Coffee table height will be equal to 50 cm without taking into account the height of the wheels. Having marked all the elements on the slab using templates, you can start cutting them out.

Marking the chipboard board

To ensure that as few chips as possible are formed when sawing with a jigsaw, you need to draw firmly along the cut lines several times. sharp knife.

To saw a chipboard board, we use a file with the smallest tooth and set the jigsaw to a reduced speed. When working, we try to guide the jigsaw evenly along the cutting line, eliminating the appearance of waves. If one does appear, then you can trim the cut with a rasp, using a “pull-away” movement. So, first we cut out the rectangular parts of the coffee table with our own hands.

We cut rectangular pieces of chipboard

Then we proceed to the side ones. To make both sides exactly the same, we will cut them together. To do this, we fold two blanks “facing” each other and tighten it all with clamps. Then we apply markings according to the template and cut out the outer outline. To saw inside the workpieces, you need to drill holes with a diameter of at least 10 mm in the corners of the drawing. Insert the jigsaw blade into the hole and begin sawing. This way we get rid of the internal areas and get the same sides.

Cutting out the inner parts of the side panels

All our components of the table are ready, now we need to paste over all the sections with decorative furniture edge(and if you modernize this one a little, then the edge of the table will look much more decorative). This is done using a hot iron. We place the tape with the adhesive side on the cut side and align it with the edges. Then, holding it, iron it on top with a hot iron. We do this with our own hands with all the external and internal sections of the elements of the coffee table.

Glue the decorative edge

If the width of the tape is larger than the end of the slab, then cut off the excess part with a sharp knife, and carefully blot the cut of the tape with stain (you can use an ear stick).

Now we mark the attachment points for the middle part of the table - the shelf and the sides. The fastening here will be special screws for furniture - confirmats. Given the special structure of this fastener, you will need a special drill to drill holes for it. If there is none, then you can use three ordinary ones: under the screw part, under the expanded part and under the cap. By drilling holes you can fasten the shelf and sides.

Assembling the middle part of the coffee table

Next we will attach the completed middle part to the top cover. To do this, we will place our elements in the position in which they should be in the finished table and mark the places for metal corners and holes for screws. Then we will fasten these parts of our table.

Screw the middle to the top cover

We turn the coffee table over with our own hands and similarly connect the structure to the bottom lid, using the same furniture metal corners. Next, we put our table on wheels. We mark the installation locations of the rollers on the underside and secure them with screws.

Screw on the wheels

That's all! Our handmade coffee table is ready! IN new year holidays You can successfully place something like this on it or serve it beautifully romantic dinner. First you need to make a base for the table, along the perimeter of which there will be logs. The middle of the warp is sewn up with cardboard. Legs or wheels are attached to the underside of the base. In order for the table to appear to be made entirely of logs, small round dies must be glued to the surface of the cardboard. All voids formed between the dies are covered and thoroughly rubbed to create a smooth surface of the table. You can decorate such a table with branches.

Instead of large quantity small logs, to make a coffee table in a similar way, you can use one thick cut of a log.

Pallet table

Even the most ordinary pallets that can be found on each one will make an excellent coffee table. To work you need to prepare:

Wooden pallets;
Hammer;
Drill;
Nail puller;
Clamps;
Glue;
Screws;
Screwdriver;
Legs or wheels;
Primer;
Soap.

First of all, the surface of the pallets must be cleaned of dirt. To do this, you can use a drill with a wood cutting attachment. You should also use a nail puller to get rid of old nails and disassemble the pallets into pieces. All damaged and broken pieces of boards must be glued together. Gently clamp the boards with clamps and let them dry thoroughly. Then glue the prepared parts of the tabletop on the back side and again with clamps. After complete drying, the surface of the table must be coated with a layer of primer and then varnish. TO back side The resulting table must be equipped with wheels or legs. To make it easier to attach the screws to the table, their surfaces can be rubbed with regular soap.

After all the work done, you will get a functional, stylish and compact table.
