Joining laminate and tile options. We join laminate and tiles without using a threshold. Direct joint with cork expansion joint insert

Tiles and laminate are combined for greater practicality of the room and its zoning. For example, in kitchens, kitchen-living rooms, in hallways, and also under doors. Here are the 5 main ways to design a joint (list by popularity):

  • Using a threshold or connecting profile;
  • Using sealant (silicone, acrylic, polyurethane);
  • Using a cork compensator;
  • Using tile grout between joints;
  • Using a liquid plug.

In this material, we examined each of these solutions in detail and presented 40 photo examples.

Joint WITHOUT a threshold - how to do it and why sometimes it’s better not to take risks

Let's start with the more preferable, but also more complex solution– the junction of tiles and laminate without threshold.

How to make a joint between tiles and laminate WITHOUT a threshold?

You can join tiles and laminate flooring without a threshold only if ALL of these 5 conditions are met:

  1. Lay both coatings not in a floating manner, but with glue. If the laminate is laid in a floating manner (when the lamellas are laid on a substrate and are not glued to the base), then a threshold cannot be avoided.
  2. Achieve the same height of tiles and laminate by adjusting the thickness of the adhesive and screed. The maximum error is 1-2mm. This is the second reason why you need to plan the junction of tiles and laminate without a threshold in advance.
  3. Make an expansion joint of sufficient width. In order for the laminate to expand and contract naturally, there must be a gap of at least 5 mm between the tiles and the laminate (on average, 1 mm of compensation gap is required for every meter of laminate length). Otherwise, the laminate will swell, begin to creak, and the plug may even fly out of the joint.
  4. The joint should be no more than 3 m long, and the room should be no more than 25 sq. m. m. After all, the larger the area of the laminate, the larger the compensation gap it needs.
  5. Cut the laminate very carefully. For this we need special equipment and a qualified craftsman, especially if the joint shape is complex.

If at least one of these requirements is not met, then the threshold will still have to be set. Do you doubt whether it’s worth bothering with a joint without a threshold or is it better to take the easy route? The advantages of the first solution are obvious: a neat appearance, no cracks that complicate cleaning, nothing interferes with walking.

The junction of tiles and laminate without threshold in the interior of a kitchen in Khrushchev

And the absence of a threshold is indicated if the joint has a complex configuration. For example, if it is too long, radius, wavy or curly (zigzag, with hex or octagonal tiles). Here are a couple of photo examples of complex joints.

On the other hand, when making a decision, keep in mind that no matter how perfectly the joint is made and no matter how high-quality the laminate is, there is still a risk of it swelling. In this sense, the threshold is a more reliable solution.

So, where to start planning a joint:

  • If you want to connect tiles and laminate without a threshold, then you need to choose specific materials and the method of designing the joint in advance - before the screed stage. Next, a little math: sum up the thickness of the tiles and tile adhesive, and then the thickness of the laminate and its backing/adhesive. Finally, we calculate the difference between the heights of the two coverings. The task of builders is to level out this difference due to the thickness of the substrate, screed and/or glue.
  • However, if you have already laid tiles, but have not yet laid laminate, then there is still the opportunity to make a single-level floor. Since the tile has standard thickness, then it is laid first, then the laminate can be adjusted under it.

Finally, we talk about 4 ways to design the joint between laminate and tile without a threshold.

Attention! Whichever of the following methods you choose, when laying the laminate for its thermal expansion, you should leave a 5-10 mm gap from the opposite wall (later it will be covered with a plinth).

Method 1. Sealing the joint with tile grout

Pros: Simple, inexpensive and working method. Suitable for complex joints.

Cons: The grout may crack as the building shrinks. Since the joint between the tiles and the laminate turns out to be rigid, the compensation gap for the laminate must be left under the baseboard.

Installation: You can fill the seam with grout both during the floor laying process and after its completion. The algorithm of actions is as follows:

  1. On the screed we draw the markings of the line of the future joint;
  2. We lay the tiles to the line, trim the unnecessary part and trim it with a grinder;
  3. We cut the laminate, lay it taking into account the compensation gap, and treat the edge with silicone;
  4. Fill the resulting seam halfway or a little more with sealant and let it dry;
  5. Place grout into the seam on top of the sealant and level it;
  6. To make the seam more durable, coat it with clear varnish.
  • Epoxy grout or polymer grout is especially suitable for porcelain stoneware;
  • You can use the same grout that was used to grout the tile joints.

Method 2. Sealing the joint between tile and laminate with sealant (silicone, acrylic, polyurethane)

Pros: Due to their plasticity, sealants allow you to “walk” a little. For the same reason, the joint between dissimilar coatings does not deteriorate when the building shrinks.

The 1.5 mm seam is filled with silicone sealant

Cons: Sometimes silicone sealants harden over time. Only narrow seams about 5 mm wide can be sealed with sealant.

  • Acrylic sealant can be painted and varnished after drying (unlike silicone).

Installation: In this video you can see the process of bringing tiles and laminate into one plane and the process of sealing the joint with silicone sealant.

Method 3. Joint with cork expansion joint

The cork compensator is the most popular alternative to the threshold. They can be used to create a straight joint, and sometimes a radius one.

  • Many designers prefer a cork expansion joint. And there are those who consider it as much a relic of the past as aluminum profiles.

Pros: Looks good, the joints are very neat. Pressed cork is soft and elastic, so it can provide natural expansion to laminate/parquet flooring. Due to its naturalness and plasticity, cork expansion joint is especially suitable for the joint between tiles and parquet/parquet board/engineered board.

Cons: higher price, not suitable for shaped joints, limited selection of shades, theoretically it could begin to crumble due to shrinkage of the house or even fly out of the seam (but, as practice shows, this is unlikely). Another significant drawback is that the elasticity of the cork is not enough to compensate for the expansion of the laminate in spacious rooms(more than 25 sq. m).

  • When laying laminate flooring, you can buy a cork expansion joint to match it and already with varnish. If you are laying parquet/parquet boards, then you can buy a cork expansion joint without any processing (pictured) and sand and varnish it at the same time as the parquet.

Often when arranging a floor covering, a technique of combining several decorative materials, which have different textures, thicknesses and colors.

The most popular of them are laminate and ceramic tiles. And in this case, a rather serious problem arises - how to correctly join laminate and tiles in order to get a reliable and practical floor?

Joint locations

When laying floor coverings of different thicknesses, at the points of their connection there may be significant differences in levels, which must be correctly brought together into a single plane. Ceramic tiles and laminate are the most popular floor coverings that are suitable for rooms of various functional purposes.

The joint between the tile and the laminate can have the following location:

  • At the transition border between two rooms. For example, between the corridor and sanitary unit, corridor and room/kitchen, kitchen/room and balcony/loggia. As a rule, two coating options meet at the bottom of the doorway, so modern decorative thresholds can be used to design the transition.
  • The joint line is located in open space, where the transition is visually used to zoning the room. For example, dividing a large kitchen into working and dining areas, rooms into areas for work and relaxation, and general zoning of studio apartments. More complex options are used to design transitions.

Types of laminate and tile joints

There are two options for joining laminate boards with ceramic tiles:

  • Straightforward - simple and available method transition design. It is suitable for various types of premises where it is required competent zoning. A straight joint can be designed in an open space or under a door. The permissible thickness of the transition is 5 mm. To properly connect tiles and laminate, it is recommended to use a decorative threshold.
  • Curvilinear - such a connection of two materials is complex and labor-intensive, so its implementation should be entrusted to specialists. Designed for decorative division of a room into functional zones. May have different geometries.

Decorative threshold

Often, the joint between tile and laminate is closed using a joining threshold, which performs not only a decorative, but also a protective function. It provides reliable protection joint from penetration into it various contaminants and moisture.

Depending on the material used to make decorative thresholds, the following types are distinguished:

  • Plastic.
  • Aluminum.
  • Metal.
  • Wooden.
  • Rubber.

By configuration they are:

  • Curved.
  • Direct.
  • Leveling.
  • Transitional.
  • Angular.
  • Round.
  • Final ones.
  • Single-level.
  • Two-level.

The use of a decorative threshold provides a smooth transition between floor coverings, which is resistant to mechanical and other influences.

Flexible threshold

You can effectively transition from tile to laminate using a flexible threshold. The most popular elements are flexible profiles made of metal and plastic, which are perfectly combined with laminate and tiles.

  • Plastic profile can be used when between two various coatings There is a technological gap required to set the threshold. The use of the element involves preliminary cutting of the required part of the profile for further softening and installation into the prepared groove. This design is resistant to mechanical damage and deformations.
  • Metal profile presented in a wide range color scheme, used to form a joint between coatings of the same thickness. The profile is equipped with special clamps that allow you to securely fasten it between the tiles and the laminate.

Decorative podium

For safe joining of ceramic tiles and laminate, a special decorative podium can be used. It represents a height difference of 35 mm, which allows you to make an original transition between two coatings. The podium is fixed using adhesives and fasteners. Suitable for making a podium tiles or porcelain stoneware.

This design is used in exceptional cases when it is not technically possible to level the floor base using a cement screed.

Methods of docking without a threshold

When designing a joint between laminate and tiles without a threshold, the problem with the height difference between the materials is first solved.

To join different coverings - tiles, laminate or parquet - it is impossible to install them without maintaining a minimum gap. This is explained by the fact that each material has its own coefficient of thermal expansion when the temperature and humidity level in the room changes.

The technological gap allows you to change the size of the floor covering without damaging any of its parts.

In this case, modern elastic materials are used to fill the joint - expansion joint, joint grout and sealant.

Cork compensator

A good alternative to the traditional threshold is a cork compensator - elastic and durable material, for the production of which oak bark is used. Thanks to its elasticity, such an element compensates for fluctuations in the size of the laminate board.

To ensure a long service life of the decorative material when laying a cork expansion joint, the edges of the laminate must be treated with a water-repellent compound.

Long and shaped seams between tiles and laminate are sealed with elastic cork sealant. When using a compensator, it is important to remember that finishing materials must have perfectly smooth edges.

Joint grout

To seal a connecting joint in a level between two different floorings without the use of flexible profiles and decorative thresholds, you can use joint grout.

Grout is a ready-made dry mixture based on cement, epoxy or silicone. To prepare the composition, the mixture is diluted with water in the specified proportion.

The main advantages of grout are its cost-effectiveness, ease of preparation and application, elasticity, durability and resistance to moisture.

To preserve the shade and increase resistance to mechanical damage, the connecting grout joint is additionally coated with transparent varnish.

Cork sealant

Another way to seal the joint between two types of coatings is to use liquid plug or sealant. The composition has many advantages: resistance to moisture, quick drying and flexibility.

The sealant is made from crushed cork tree bark with the addition of a binder and water. Standard sealant has a light brown tint and is applied with a construction gun or spatula.

Making joints using thresholds

The use of decorative thresholds to design the joint between laminate and tiles is possible in the following cases:

  • The transition is located under the interior door.
  • There is a difference between the thickness of the floor coverings being connected.
  • The joining of materials is done in the hallway or corridor in front of the front door.

Types of thresholds for joining materials

To beautifully design the transition between two floor coverings, use the following types thresholds:

  • Plastic. Flexible design consisting of a base and a decorative cover. The base is installed in the gap between the laminate and the tiles, and is closed on top with a cover plate with snaps. The threshold is available in two types - for joining materials of the same thickness and for coatings with thickness differences from 5 to 9 mm.
  • Metal. Elastic and durable design made of metal alloy for the design of curved and straight joints. Available in L-shape and T-shape. The metal threshold can be unpainted or painted in a wide range of colors.
  • Aluminum. Used to process straight transitions under the doorway. The threshold has a T-shaped and H-shaped design, made of aluminum profile, at the base of which there are through holes for fastening elements. There are also self-adhesive thresholds, the inside of which is treated with a special compound. For better adhesion with the base on inner side sealant is applied to the profile. After fixing the threshold to the floor, the excess should be carefully removed.
  • Wooden. The most popular and environmentally friendly design option, which fits perfectly with parquet and laminate. It has less flexibility, so it is suitable for making straight joints.
  • Rubber. The element can be represented by a completely rubber structure or an aluminum profile with a rubberized lining. Ideal for the entrance area - corridor and hall. The aluminum profile is mounted on dowels, the rubber profile is mounted on adhesive.
  • Cork. The design is made of cork, which has good shock absorption and elasticity. Such thresholds are compensatory and can have different shapes - circle, semicircle, zigzag. The elements are installed using adhesive in the gap between the floor coverings.

In case of wear or damage, all types of thresholds can be replaced with new elements.

Installation of a flexible PVC profile threshold

A flexible PVC profile threshold is a fairly practical and convenient design for hiding joints of various configurations between two floor coverings. It consists of two elements - the base and decorative strip. Installation of the threshold is carried out after laying the tiles and before laying out the laminate.

Work is carried out in the following order:

  1. A base is installed along the line of the laid tiles and secured using dowels or self-tapping screws. For installation work It is recommended to choose fasteners with large flat heads.
  2. The base of the threshold must be placed flush with the cut of the tile. Thus, the connecting profile and the decorative flooring should be on the same level. If necessary, you can trim the substrate under the laminate.
  3. If the profile is mounted on fasteners, then markings are made for them and through holes are made in the floor. Next, PVC inserts are installed and the base of the threshold is fixed. The distance between individual fasteners is determined by the curvature of the joint; the greater the curvature, the smaller the step. The installed base must completely match the shape of the joint.
  4. Next, the laminate is laid. After completing the installation work, a decorative overlay is inserted into the groove provided in the base and snaps into place with a little force.
  5. The last stage is the installation of the floor decorative plinth.

A flexible PVC profile threshold allows you to easily and quickly close a straight or wavy transition between laminate and tiles. To design a curved connection of coatings with uneven cuts, it is recommended to use flexible two-level profiles.

Make an invisible transition between various types decorative materials are almost impossible, but this is not required. The main task of such elements is to hide the existing joint, ensuring the solidity and visual appeal of the floor covering. In addition, all work on arranging connections can be done independently, without involving expensive specialists.

Laying laminate flooring is not as easy as it seems at first glance. This process has a lot of nuances, compliance with which is important for the successful completion of the procedure. And the correct joining of the laminate between rooms, as well as with other coatings, refers to these aspects correct installation. The procedure is simple, but it is important to know how to join laminate flooring between rooms. Only with the necessary knowledge will you be able to create neat and beautiful floors.

How to join laminate and tiles - photo

This material, which is long rectangular planks that consist of several layers, is one of the most popular floor coverings on the market. It is highly durable and attractive appearance, ease of installation. The coating itself, created from a laminate, can serve for many years if planks of appropriate quality were used for manufacturing, and they were installed correctly.

Note! The thickness of one lamella varies between 9-11 mm. The width is 19.5 cm, and the length of the bar can reach 185 cm.

The coating consists of several layers, its base is made of fiberboard, and other layers are located above and below it. The top coating is covered with a special protection made of melamine resin, under which there is a layer responsible for giving the material a certain color (for example, imitation of a cut of wood or stone). The bottom layer also performs a protective function. Thanks to the top layer, the coating is not afraid of exposure to ultraviolet rays, moisture and other external factors.

Laminate does not like water, and its side part, unlike the bottom or top, usually does not have protection from moisture. That is why it is important to lay the material correctly so that there are no gaps between the individual slats. However, often when laying flooring in an apartment between separate rooms or other rooms, the lamellas have to be joined - it is not always possible to lay the laminate in one continuous layer. Also, this type of coating is often combined with other types of materials for finishing flooring - for example, tiles, linoleum, etc.

Note! Since laminate does not like water, it is rarely installed in rooms with high humidity. These are kitchens, bathrooms, bathrooms. Ceramic tiles usually take their rightful place there. And it is also very important to connect it correctly and beautifully with the laminate.

Why do you need a connection?

Why is it so important to correctly design laminate joints between rooms? There are several correct answers to this question:

  • It is sometimes easier to connect individual sections of the covering between rooms than to continue laying out the covering in a continuous pattern;
  • According to the recommendations of experts, every 7-8 meters between the rows of laminate there should be gaps about 10-15 mm wide. They are necessary to compensate for the thermal expansion of the slats;
  • registration of joints is necessary for docking different types laminate, the locking connections of which do not match;
  • the procedure is carried out by combining lamellas of different colors or different coatings when zoning a room;
  • it is also indispensable when decorating steps if the room has a podium.

By itself lock connection between the lamellas is quite strong and reliable; it will not allow individual parts of the coating to move. But laminate is a “living” coating; it is capable of changing its size depending on the temperature and humidity of the air, either expanding or contracting. That is why the presence of deformation gaps is necessary. Still, laminate also has a wood component in its structure, which reacts sharply to changes in humidity and temperature.

Note! Such deformation gaps must also remain along the walls around the perimeter of the room. Otherwise, the coating may rise over time.

Thus, it is necessary to join individual parts of the covering, and the reason is not always that it is necessary to connect the floors in separate rooms. It will also look unsightly if different types of coatings are left without joining.

How to connect laminate

Connecting individual laminate planks between two rooms can be done in several ways. It could be docking using locks, directly available on the lamellas, joining with thresholds, cork compensator or glue mixtures type of sealants or polyurethane foam.

Lock connection suitable if identical coating strips of the same structure and height are joined. Simply put, when lamellas from the same batch are used. In this case, the locks will match exactly. The method is also suitable for small premises, where additional compensation gaps between coating sections are simply not needed.

Thresholds are used more often than other joining elements. This is due to their ease of installation, availability and low cost - you can buy thresholds at any hardware store for little money. The profile is simply screwed or glued (depending on the type of product) into the gap left between the laid sections of coatings. This gap will be sufficient so that the lamellas can easily expand if necessary, and the coating will not rise. By the way, the thresholds can be made from the most different materials, but most often standard metal ones are used. Their length can also vary.

Note! With the help of thresholds, you can join a variety of types of floor coverings together, including laminate with ceramic tiles or laminate with linoleum.

Usually used only to connect two sections of laminated coating, less often - to connect different types of coatings. Such a product will allow you to avoid any gaps on the floor at all, since cork is a rather soft material and will simply wrinkle when the coating expands, and when it shrinks, it will return to its original shape. The cork expansion joint is installed immediately after installation of the entire covering - it is, with the help of a small spatula, inserted into the cavity of the remaining gap. Usually the cork is not even noticeable to the naked eye, since the color rarely differs from the coating itself. And if necessary, you can tint it with a marker or paint.

Sealant and foam are used less frequently as they can stain the surface of the coating. But with their help you can hide gaps of any width and join sections of coatings that have rather bizarre shapes. It is important to remove excess material immediately after application, otherwise after drying it will leave unsightly marks. Main disadvantage method - the impossibility of dismantling this section of the panels if necessary. Also, due to the sealant, the lamellas cannot expand, which means that the method can only be used in small rooms.

Sometimes connecting elements are produced along with the laminate. They are ideal for joining individual sections of coating. They usually cost more than universal connecting elements. Typically, such options are produced only by large and well-known manufacturers of laminated coatings.

Types of connecting strips

All connectors for individual areas of flooring can be divided into several categories. They are divided by the type of material from which they are made, as well as by shape.

Table. What can thresholds be made of?

Type/material of manufacturePeculiarities

This type of thresholds is made from pressed wood chips; in other words, these are MDF moldings. They have a laminated coating on the top, giving desired color product. Usually selected according to the texture of the lamellas. They allow you to seamlessly and beautifully join individual sections of the laminate floor. Disadvantage - MDF moldings are afraid of moisture.

Can be made of several types of metal - aluminum, brass, steel. The surface has decorative coating, which is often made in gold, wood or silver. Due to their high strength, the products are usually installed in areas with high traffic and significant impact on the floor covering.

Quite flexible and suitable option for designing shaped joints between coatings. This threshold is made of plastic, is inexpensive, and can be made in almost any color. The main disadvantage is its fragility, which is why such a threshold quickly loses its appearance.

Usually looks like corner profile and is used if you need to decorate the edges of stairs or podiums. Made from rubber. A strong, durable product with no sharp edges.

A rather expensive option for thresholds, which is rarely used for joining laminate flooring. More often used to design joints between individual sections of natural wooden floors. The threshold is difficult to maintain and constantly requires varnishing and sanding.

Combined flooring in the hallway - tiles and laminate

Also, profiles for decorating joints can have different shapes. They are:

  • straight– these are used to design joints between two types of laminate or between laminate and other coatings. The main thing is that they have the same height, otherwise the thresholds will be inconvenient to attach;
  • transitional– this version of the threshold is useful for joining multi-level coatings;
  • corner– such a threshold is useful if you need to connect two perpendicular surfaces together, for example, when decorating podiums and stairs;
  • final– allow you to close the edge of the last laminate strip.

What to consider before starting installation work?

Before you start joining two separate sections of laminate flooring or connecting it with another type of floor finishing, you should take into account several features and make sure that all the necessary requirements for the working conditions have been met. For example, installation of laminate and its joining can only be done if the rough base is perfectly level. There should be no differences on it.

Note! The maximum horizontal deviation of the floor prepared for laying laminate should not exceed 2 mm.

Also, you should not install the purchased laminate immediately. He must rest indoors for two days before starting work. Otherwise, the coating will most likely bulge over time, and even the presence of expansion gaps will not save the situation.

Installation of laminate can only be done at above-zero temperatures. Work begins from the corner of the room farthest from the exit. It is also recommended to orient the slats along the direction of incidence of the light rays, so the joints between the slats will be minimally noticeable.

Installation of connecting strips

Let's see how to install the connector thresholds necessary for joining individual sections of laminate between rooms.

Step 1. The first step is to measure the threshold and doorway. It is necessary to make sure that the product fits into the opening and completely covers the deformation gap along its entire length.

Step 2. The threshold is applied to the installation site, and markings are applied through the holes in it, which will allow you to mark the drilling points for the rough base. Dowel holes should be drilled in the center of the gap and not on the surface of the laminate. The location of the threshold is also noted.

Step 3. At the marking site, holes are made in the subfloor. The diameter of the drill should be optimal for the size of the dowels included with the sill.

Step 4. Dowels are inserted into the holes made in the floor.

Step 5. The threshold is placed in its designated place.

Step 6. The strip is secured with self-tapping screws, which are screwed into plastic dowels and tightened tightly.

There are also thresholds on sale that have hidden fasteners. In this case, you will have to act as follows.

Step 1. As in the previous case, the threshold and doorway are measured, and then markings are applied to the subfloor in the places where the dowels will be inserted.

Step 2. The threshold with hidden fasteners has reverse side groove into which the screw heads are inserted. The dowels are screwed onto the self-tapping screws immediately.

Step 3. Using the previously applied marks, holes are made for the dowels.

Step 4. The threshold is placed against the gap that needs to be closed with it. Dowels fixed on self-tapping screws, moving along the groove, are inserted into the holes made with a hammer drill.

Note! There are also self-adhesive thresholds on sale; on the reverse side they have a special adhesive tape that allows you to fix the product in the required place.

Joining laminate and tiles

If you need to join laminate and tiles, you can proceed in exactly the same way as when installing metal thresholds, or you can use another option for the joining profile - a cork compensator.

Step 1. To install a flexible cork expansion joint, you will need to cut it not only to the required length of the doorway, but also in height so that it does not protrude above the surface of the coverings.

Step 2. At this stage the laminate has already been laid, you need to start laying the tiles. But first, the cork threshold itself is glued to the base using reliable construction adhesive. First, glue is applied to the rough base along the edge of the laminate, onto which the threshold is then placed, but is not temporarily pressed.

Step 3. Acrylic sealant is also used to seal the gaps between the cork expansion joint and the laminate. The cork expansion joint is then pressed against subfloor and laminate.

Step 4. Excess sealant is removed with a sponge soaked in water. Next, wipe the surface with a dry cloth.

Step 5. Traditional way on the other side of the cork compensator, ceramic tiles are laid with glue.

In general, joining laminate and tiles is necessary to achieve aesthetic harmony, extend the service life of coatings, and protect the joint area from water.

It is not difficult to join individual sections of laminate or different types of floor coverings together. The main thing is to know how it's done. In general, if you follow the installation instructions, no difficulties should arise even for novice craftsmen.

Your repost will change the Internet :)

What is most often put on the kitchen floor? As practice shows, this is linoleum or tile, since the laminate, beloved by many, is not wear-resistant. But in some cases, a combination of tiles and laminate occurs: the first is laid in work area, the second - in the dining room. An excellent compromise in its practicality presents only one problem - the difficulty in finishing the joint between two different coatings. Let's try to figure out how to deal with it.

Closing the joint

Without threshold

The fewer elements on the floor, the more uniform and natural the coating looks. Unfortunately, there are not many methods for sealing joints without a threshold:

  • Cork compensator. This is nothing more than a strip of cork that is glued at the junction of the tile and laminate. The edge of the laminate must be treated with a moisture protection agent.

  • Putty or fugue. The fugue is already necessary when laying tiles, so the volume of its use can be slightly increased. With due diligence, you can also choose the putty of the required color. To ensure that the seams retain their natural color longer and do not get dirty, it is better to coat them with colorless varnish after drying.
  • Liquid plug. The principle of operation is the same as that of putty, with the only difference being the material itself. After drying it really resembles natural cork.

The joint between the two materials must be smooth when using either of these materials.

Using a threshold

Thresholds are the easiest and least expensive way to seal the joint between laminate and tile. But there are some tricks here too, since there are several types of “adapters”.

Straight sills. They are the least noticeable, but their use is limited by one condition: the levels of the laminate and tiles must be almost the same. There are thresholds with open and hidden fastening.

Corner profile. Suitable for too obvious height differences (from 5 mm), allows you to make the transition smoother.

Bendable thresholds. Suitable for curved joining of two materials. Installation method may vary - see video.

Photo

The joints are straight, but the colors of the tiles and laminate are radically different. A threshold of a darker color will indicate the transition more strictly and accurately.

Here we had to tinker with the joint, since such transitions require extremely careful cutting of the tiles.

The tiles are only dining area- in order not to completely highlight it, the joints are sealed with a fugue in the color of the floor.

There are two types of tiles on the floor. The second type - under a mosaic - made it possible to select a threshold of the same width and make the transition less noticeable.
