To supply water to the brush, you need to press the micro button hidden inside the handle. It is not necessary to keep it pressed all the time; short presses (30-50 s) with breaks of 15-20 s are enough. The washer motor is secured with a clamp made from a strip of plastic from the same canister using a brass M8 bolt with a nut and washer, placing it on the sealant. After unsoldering the wires, the “second bottom” is put on and secured with self-tapping screws. Then the rotary cover is also attached. Operation homemade car wash showed that polyethylene fits the self-tapping screw so tightly that additional sealing of the connection is not required. The same can be said about the bushings to which the connecting hoses are attached.


After the car is washed, the brush hose is retracted inside the canister through the neck, the wire is wound onto the shuttle and closed with a rotating lid. In winter, at temperatures below 0°C, if the washer is stored in an unheated garage or car trunk, the water from the canister should be drained completely.

Do not wash or treat the vehicle under direct sun rays. On a heated surface, the preparations dry out very quickly, resulting in streaks.

Don't save water. Abundant dousing washes away loose dirt and sand. If you rub a sponge over them, you can scratch the surface. The final rinse should be generous, otherwise streaks may appear.

It is better to wash the car with a hose, adjusting the jet pressure. With enormous pressure, areas of the underbody, wheel arches and wheels are washed.

Inspect the brush or sponge for any remaining sand. If they have sand left over from the preparatory wash, it can scratch the coating.

Do not pull the hose through the body. Pulling a hose through a painted surface can bring sand onto the surface and cause scratches to form.

Do not use household shampoos instead of special car shampoos. detergents, especially dishwashing preparations. The brutal chemicals contained in them to effectively dissolve fat can stain the car's paintwork and cause corrosion by penetrating microcracks in the enamel.

For different car care operations it is necessary to use separate products and devices. For example, towels that may have been exposed to compounds containing silicone should not be used to clean glass. And it is completely unacceptable to wipe the body with a cloth that has been used to apply grinding pastes or other abrasive compounds.

Do not use excessive force - this may destroy the paintwork.

To wash a new car, shampoo can be used immediately: the paintwork is already quite hardened. But, if you purchased a car directly from an assembly line, it is better to refrain from washing with shampoo and only wash the body for the first 2-3 weeks warm water. As for new repair coatings, shampoo can only be used three months after application.

Car shampoo contains wax to clean the car while at the same time creating a shiny, waxy layer of protection. Car shampoo based on paraffins and solvents with a high wax content provides shine and wax protection to the body for several weeks.

A car wash brush should be soft, with shaggy ends of synthetic bristles. To wash a large vehicle (buses, trucks), it is convenient to use a brush with a long or folding telescopic handle.

After washing the car, water must be removed from the surface of the body in order to prevent the drops from drying and causing stains and stains. To do this, use small towels made of natural fibers, usually terry, or suede, which, unlike fabric, does not leave fibers and threads on the car.
Natural suede - specially tanned leather, soft and elastic - no matter how annoying it may sound, over time it loses its elasticity and when dry it becomes like a piece of board, although it continues to absorb water, only it must be previously soaked and wrung out. Artificial suede does not have such a defect; it is made from natural production waste. In addition, it is more durable and less expensive. Even cheaper than artificial suede is synthetic suede (made of polyvinyl chloride). Some of its types have proven themselves better than natural suede; they also absorb more water. Artificial and natural suede must be dried before storage, but synthetic suede can be stored with moisture.

But since you want to do it yourself, I’ll tell you a little about whether it’s possible to assemble a sink and how well such a household or stationary homemade product will work.

Main Components

Since we do everything from improvised means, problems may arise with such a parameter as reliability. I believe that any sink or foam generator must be assembled in accordance with GOST and other requirements. If you violate all the recommendations and sculpt a structure from the first spare parts you come across, it’s better not to start.

If you are ready to act consistently and competently, then maybe something good will work out. Homemade car washes are not a myth at all. A lot of people, including my friends, collected them. They work well. Although my foaming agent works no worse. Yes, I bought it and I'm not ashamed of it.

So, since we are talking about homemade sinks, let's see what components they are assembled from.


  1. Pump or pump. The first priority will be to find a pump. Since a sink is a water supply device, there is no way to do it without a pump. Moreover, so that water comes out through the nozzle under high pressure, capable of removing dirt from the surface of the machine, we select the pump at 150 bar. Some charge more, but this is unnecessary. Otherwise, the paint will come off along with the dirt. The block head must be made of brass or bronze. Such materials are least susceptible to corrosion, and therefore the device will last a long time. Supplying 15 liters of water per minute is enough to thoroughly wash your car.
  2. Electric motor. Next in line will be a 220V electric motor. In addition to it, you need a condenser unit so that the sink starts without problems. The higher the rpm, the better the performance. Pumps that are too fast and produce a high speed will wear out quickly. Don't take them. A consumption of 2-3 kW and a rotation speed of no more than 2000 rpm is considered optimal.
  3. Clutch. It is needed to connect the pump to the engine. Some people also install a belt drive in one stage. Using this gearbox, the speed and load of the engine with the pump are balanced. The gear ratio must be selected based on the required output parameters.
  4. Water container. Use a tank that you can power from a constant source of water. This could be a regular tap or a well, for example. If the water is dirty, install a filter at the inlet. The main reservoir will serve to add car washing shampoo.
  5. Performance regulator. A special valve must regulate operating parameters and, if necessary, redirect unused water pressure into the container. This reduces the load on the pump.

We've sorted out the basic elements. But there is also a hose, nozzles and other components that are part of a homemade sink. Or think about which one to choose among ready-made sinks sold in stores.

External car wash units

External components are mounted on a frame, which is better to make yourself or choose a suitable ready-made structure. Usually the frame is made on the basis of a profile or curved pipe. You can install wheels on the bottom so that the sink is not stationary, but mobile. Stops, handles and clamps will help you move the device.


  • Hose. If you have sorted out the water intake, you need an element through which the liquid will begin to flow to the machine. Choose reinforced rubberized hoses or plastic products. Just make sure the hose is durable and has tight connections to the water intake. If necessary, you should be able to quickly repair the hose and change it.
  • Connections. It is better to connect areas where elements are connected to each other and come into contact with water using fasteners made of corrosion-resistant materials. For example, bronze or brass.
  • Gun and nozzle. You can take a ready-made sandblaster or another suitable gun that has a nozzle. Outwardly they resemble pistols at gas stations. The water jet should only be released when you press the button. It’s better to take a ready-made gun and not worry. My advice to you.

We do everything consistently and carefully, connecting the elements tightly together. In fact, selecting parts and creating a complete sink from them is not an impossible task.


But you will still need a cutter to cut the holes, a whole set of different components. It is far from certain that they will be at hand or suitable in size, type of material, and so on. Someone makes sinks from NSh 10 (gear pump) and is happy with the result. Others twist and turn something, but in the end they go to the store and buy a foaming agent, connecting it with the purchased branded sink. Although a foam generator can be made from a compressor and auxiliary mechanisms, I would prefer a ready-made product.


In some cases, it is better to think about which sink from a leading manufacturer to take to wash your car, rather than spend several days unsuccessfully trying to assemble a sink from scrap materials.

I am not at all opposed to making useful things with my own hands. But in terms of washing there are many pitfalls. In my opinion, it's better to spend more money and less time for a proven Karcher factory car wash, for example, less money and more time for homemade device. It remains to be seen how this homemade product will work and what surprises it will reveal during operation.


The rating of factory sinks clearly demonstrates the leaders of the segment. Will you be able to achieve similar characteristics to such devices by doing the washing yourself? Hardly. Can you save money? Most likely yes.

What should a car wash be like?

There is no need to talk about the advantages of mini-washing over bucket washing. You can assemble a sink with your own hands, but you first need to know what indicators the design must have in order for it to be of any use. You need to come to terms with the fact that it will not be possible to build a Karcher 7-series, but you need to strive for this if you really want to save 7-8 thousand on a functional, reliable unit. When planning the design of a homemade sink, you need to focus on the best branded models, so we will follow them.

Do-it-yourself mini-wash. Looking for simple ways

The main figure in the washing machine remains the compressor, which turns a garden hose with a nozzle into a high-pressure washer. The engine for the drive is the tenth thing. The main and most difficult task is to decide on the compressor and its type. You can take the simple path, as many do. Assemble the device according to the principle of a portable foam generator. For some reason, the famous Monsoon can serve as an example. The device is schematically a cylinder or any container, and in the case of Monsoon, a plastic cylinder into which air is pumped using any portable compressor. A foaming agent is not a high-pressure apparatus by definition, so it makes no sense to want an output of 180 bar from it. Firstly, you still need to look for a household compressor that can pump up high pressure, and secondly, you need to find a cylinder that won’t break into pieces.

Now about the enterprise price. Monsoon costs about 2.5 thousand rubles, and this is only a foam generator. It includes a cylinder, a hose, valves and adapters, seals, and sprayers. The foam generator operates at a pressure of up to 5 atm maximum and cannot be called a high-pressure washer. It can create foam quite well (which then needs to be washed off somehow), and it can be used to conveniently wash the engine compartment and wheels of a simple configuration. You can increase your blood pressure, but to reasonable limits. The manufacturer of Monsoon carefully hints that it is not worth raising the pressure above 4 atm, and this is indicated by the limit valve. The configuration is normal, as for a foam generator, it works from the Aggressor pump, so you can’t jump higher than the ceiling. From this we can draw a conclusion.

You can assemble a foam generator with your own hands, and this does not require mind-boggling expenses:

  • you need a plastic canister, the bigger the better;
  • flexible hoses, low pressure can be used;
  • compressor for inflating wheels, Berkut R20, Aggressor;
  • fittings, gaskets, sealants and clamps in place.

To make the device mobile, you can use car compressor, which works from the cigarette lighter. For example, K50 at 12 volts can provide a legal 2 atmospheres. You can inflate them using the nipple fitting from a tubeless tire. Thus, you can assemble a foam generator with your own hands cheaply and cheerfully. But this unit is still far from being a high-pressure washer.

Important characteristics of a mini high pressure washer

The performance of the device is not the most important indicator, but if a homemade mini-wash takes water not from the water supply, but from its own autonomous tank, then it is advisable to save water. On average, when washing a car using the bucket-rag method, 40-60 liters of water are used. Less will not work. From here you need to calculate the approximate volume of the autonomous cylinder. Branded sinks consume from 5 to 15 liters per minute. That is, if the container capacity of a homemade sink is 25 liters, then water must be added every two minutes.

Pressure is a sore point. In mid-price range sinks, Karcher or Shtil, high-pressure axial pumps are installed. In principle, it is possible to buy such a unit. Only it will cost 40% of the cost of the entire mini-wash. Therefore, the profitability of reinventing the wheel is rather precarious. You can not accelerate to such pressure, but take the path of least resistance. Take a pump from the fuel system of any car, just keep in mind that it will not work for a long time. Gasoline is its only lubricant, and water is a lubricant of dubious quality, so it will die after the first major wash, repairing it is impossible. In this case, we will lower the pressure even more and install a 12-volt pump from the glass washer of any car.

Even with such a weak pump, we must not forget about filters. Each model of a branded mini car wash is equipped with an inlet filter. Firstly, because a fairly large fraction can float in the water and it will damage the pump. And if it doesn’t cause any damage, it will clog the foam nozzle or spray nozzle. Secondly, it can get on the paintwork and leave a new scratch. A filter is necessary, but it’s better to abandon replaceable cartridges in favor of a filter that can be washed.

Nozzles and additional sprayers offered by well-known brands are only relevant if serious pressure can be achieved. If the pressure of a homemade mini-wash is at the level of 1-2 atm, then only one spray nozzle will be enough to prepare the surface. There is no point in using foam nozzles, since such a device itself is essentially a foam generator.

How to make your own high pressure washer?

Pump and electrical network . For any water supply device, the basis is a pump. And in our case, it must also be quite powerful (from 150 atmospheres).

When choosing a pump, special attention should be paid to the working units, that is, to the material from which these products were made.

If possible, choose a product with a high-strength metal or ceramic piston. In this case, it is recommended to select the block head from brass or bronze alloys. This design can last much longer. Its service life between repairs is quite high.

A speed of 15 l/min for the pump will be sufficient.

It is recommended to choose an electric motor with a voltage of 220 V. An additional capacitor unit can provide reliable starting. Thanks to the higher speed, greater productivity is also ensured. But at the same time, a pump that is too high-speed at maximum operating speed is subject to intense wear.

The best option is a consumer of 2-3 kW and a rotation speed of up to 2000 rpm.

A homemade high-pressure washer must also have safety elements to preserve important components in the circuit. This link is the coupling connecting the pump to the engine.

If possible, we install a coupling that can compensate for small axial misalignments between the shafts.

You can also install a single-stage belt drive, which will balance the speed and load between the engine and the pump.

The subordinate number is selected from the required parameters according to the rotation frequency.

Reservoir and performance regulator. A mini washer also needs a water container. In this case, you can use a simple tank, which, if necessary, can also be powered from a permanent source of water (well or tap).

To exclude the possibility of various debris entering, it is recommended to install coarse and medium filters at the entrance to the container.

We also add shampoo or other approved car cosmetics to the main water container. In this case, the washing process will be more efficient.

As a rule, the pump has a capacity regulator combined with an auto-unloading valve, which redirects unused pressure back to the tank, reducing the load on the pump.

External elements. All elements are mounted on a frame, which can be made from profile or round curved pipes. For ease of transportation of the unit, a pair of wheels can also be attached to the lower pipes. In addition, we also install stops for fixation and a handle.

For a high-pressure hose, you can use a plastic or rubberized reinforced hose. It is imperative to ensure the tightness of the connections using high-quality clamps or hydraulic sealing.

The fittings and valves used must be made of low-corrosion alloys: brass or bronze.

Water will be supplied through the gun from the nozzle installed in it. Visually it looks like a pistol from a gas station. A stream of water will be formed after pressing the key, which in turn will also save working fluid with consumable additives. You can buy a gun of this type at almost any hardware store.

  1. Periodically inspect connecting nodes, and if necessary wrench tighten the threaded connections.
  2. In order not to reduce the throughput of a homemade mini-wash, before each connection we inspect the filters installed in the device.
  3. To avoid accidents during operation, we must ground the electrical part. Therefore, the plug used must have a grounding terminal, and the cable must be copper, three-wire.

How to make a foam generator with your own hands?

You can make a foam generator at home. Of course, in terms of functionality, such a device will lag behind its analogue, but in everyday life its usefulness is difficult to overestimate.

The tools we need are:

  • Set of wrenches;
  • Roulette;
  • Bulgarian;
  • Pliers;

1) .We use an inch pipe with a length of about a meter. We fill the front part of the product with a polyethylene sponge, the purpose of which will be to form foam.

2) . We make a plug for one of the edges of the pipe, and screw in a special tee here. Then we connect the tap for the foam generator to the hole at the inlet.

3) . On the other side of the pipe we install a tap through which the compressed air from a car compressor.

4) . We connect the second outlet of the pipe through a special fitting with a hose for foam. To prevent the washcloth from getting into the tube, we also install a special filter. In this case, the filter element can have large sections.

Please note that the density of the foam produced depends on the length of the tube and the density of its packing with a washcloth.

Any container that can withstand the pressure of the compressor is suitable as a liquid tank.

How to properly wash a car with a car wash?

Hand washing is the so-called easy option cleaning the car from dirt. But as practice shows, in this way it is possible to partially clean the surface of dirt. Another thing is the use of special technical means– car washes that supply detergent and water under high pressure.

In this way, you can not only clean off the dirt, but also a layer of oxides and synthetic resins, which during driving are deeply “rubbed” into the paintwork.

  1. Use a stream of water to remove dirt from the car wash sprayer in various directions.
  2. Apply a weak foam concentrate to the body surface under low pressure, which will effectively wash off the first two layers of dirt.
