It is advisable to make a plywood table not from boxes left over from packaging material for large equipment. The optimal raw material is the Sh2 grade - it has double-sided processing, that is ready product won't need final revision. But if the table is intended to be used in areas with excessive humidity - for example, you are planning to replace the countertop in the kitchen - then it is better to choose a material with a moisture-resistant coating.

Necessary tools

Every business begins with the selection of tools that will allow you to carry out your plan. Whatever type of plywood table you plan, and even if you only need a tabletop made of this material, you will probably need:

jigsaw (preferably the electrical version);

You can practice on something like a working version of the table. It consists of only 4 elements:

countertops;

The dimensions of individual parts are determined individually, depending on personal needs. Drawing up a preliminary drawing indicating the exact parameters is mandatory.

Making a table can be reduced to the following manipulations.

Marking the proposed table element on a sheet of plywood.
Cutting the workpiece in accordance with the markings.
Processing of cut edges with a grinder or sandpaper. In the latter case, you should start with using coarse-grained sandpaper, gradually moving on to working with fine-grain paper.
Marking with a pencil and tape measure where the screws will be screwed in.
Drilling holes for fasteners. Note that the diameter of the drill is chosen slightly smaller than the diameter of the screws. Then the plywood sheets will not burst during assembly.
Countersinking: the top of the holes is processed with a drill with a large diameter so that the heads of the screws can be sunk into them.
Assembly. First, the tabletop and side racks are joined. After aligning the elements relative to each other, the back cover of the product is installed.

The penultimate step will be to put plugs on the screw caps. Alternatively, these defects can be filled with putty and painted to match the plywood.

You may have to go over the countertop with sandpaper: plywood does not always have a smooth surface. If you are making a table for the kitchen and have purchased a material that is not highly moisture resistant, you may need to impregnate it with an appropriate composition. In this case, it will take time to wait for the impregnation to dry completely.

Suitable for final finishing:

varnish that does not emit harmful fumes;
paint that meets the same condition;
self-adhesive film imitating the structure of wood or stone.

We would recommend varnish. Plywood has a fairly pronounced wood grain that will fit into almost any interior, be it a living room, a children's room or a kitchen. And most importantly, the varnish will not peel off (unlike film) under the influence of temperature changes. If bubbles do appear, they can be easily sanded and the surface can be covered with a new layer of varnish.

To apply varnish, it is better to choose a room with good ventilation and a temperature within the range of 19-20 degrees Celsius, where the table should be moved. The varnishing brush should have natural bristles with split ends - it allows for fairly long strokes without visible traces after drying.

The technique for varnishing a table is as follows.

The varnish is thinning. Usually, white spirit is used to dilute it, and the proportion is maintained 1:1, but this point should be clarified in the instructions attached to the composition. It’s very easy to do this yourself: the solvent is gradually poured into the varnish with continuous and slow stirring.
The first layer is applied along the grain of the plywood. You should not press the brush too hard; you should hold it at a slight angle relative to the surface.
After about a day, when the first layer of varnish has dried well, you need to remove any fluff stuck to the surface (if any). For this, fine-grained sandpaper is used. After treatment, the tabletop and other table parts are wiped with a rag soaked in white spirit, without pressing.
For the second layer, use varnish diluted with solvent in a ratio of 3:1. After drying, another sanding is carried out using the finest-grained sandpaper.

If you want to achieve a completely ideal result, after the described manipulations, you can cover the tabletop with 2-3 layers of undiluted varnish and walk over it not only with the gentlest sandpaper, but also with a felt circle. With this treatment, even the simplest table begins to resemble a work of furniture art.

Using a grinding machine, it is necessary to carefully and very carefully process the entire surface of each workpiece so that it becomes smooth and beautiful. There should be no burrs, sharp edges or corners left. After the surfaces are processed, it is necessary to assemble the table; ordinary screws can be used for fastening. The structure can be attached to the wall with special metal corners, which must be placed so that they are not visible from the outside. Now the main thing remains - you need to make the surface of the coffee table beautiful and stylish.

For decoration, it is recommended to use shellac varnish, which will give the product a noble matte surface. natural wood. Since the pieces of plywood were glued together at an angle, the whole structure takes on a very interesting, original pattern, which in no way resembles that the product is made from ordinary plywood and waste. It is not recommended to use paint for decoration, since the beautiful design will no longer be visible, and the table will take on a normal appearance.

Making from birch plywood

Birch plywood is perfect for constructing a coffee table because it has an attractive appearance, durability, very easy to work with. The structure will consist of plywood blanks glued together. moisture-resistant glue specially designed for working with wooden surfaces;

wooden pin;

oil or varnish for impregnating the future surface of the table;

sandpaper;

jigsaw;

a circular saw;

drill.

The manufacturing process consists of the following simple steps:

a drawing of the future table is drawn up. In this case, it will be a small structure, the length of which will be 800 mm and the height 400 mm. Based on these parameters, birch plywood will be cut;

It is recommended to draw the drawing in full size, after which it will need to be sent to the printing house so that the templates can be printed on a self-adhesive film on the plotter. Such templates will need to be glued to the surface of the plywood, and then carefully cut out along the edges;

All blanks are cut out with a jigsaw, and their edges are completely cleaned of burrs with sandpaper. Markings for fastenings are applied to the surface of the workpieces. Holes are drilled with a drill, then you can start connecting the parts;

it is recommended to first carry out preparatory work, and then begin wood processing. The material for the table itself is purchased in the amount of 3 sheets, the dimensions of each are 1200×2400 mm, the sheet thickness should be 18 mm;

The work will require 27 blanks. Each should have a size of 400×800 mm, which fully corresponds to the dimensions of the future structure;

Holes for fastening are made in each workpiece using a milling attachment. At first you can prepare only 23 pieces, leave 4 for further work. The holes must be cut in full accordance with the template so that the table looks attractive and neat.

Made with your own hands - priceless, heavy, powerful tabletop and storage space for yourself - also 5 points. Of course, sawing/drilling on the knee is not worth the possible savings of 1000-1300 rubles, but only if the cutting is done in a normal workshop. If there is the same guy there, who has no idea about disks and other basic knowledge, also on a shaky, trashed “like a table” in a “like a workshop”, sometimes even with an amateur jigsaw - easier cut it yourself.
I will share my vision of the shortcomings, I have a table from scratch in the foreseeable future, now I live with a monster “from the store” that was radically altered for myself and received for free.
1. The system unit is on wheels, or rather, I have on powerful casters; good wheels with movement in all directions were not at hand, and it is not necessary, as experience has shown - back and forth is enough. Firstly: it’s more convenient to clean around and under the SB. Secondly: access to the back of the system unit is greatly simplified (it generally needs to be moved to the left, since the cabinet is on the right), it just seems like you plug it in once and forget it, USB extension cords do not always solve the situation completely (or rather, they never solve it). Don’t forget to provide, along with the rollers, a locking and safety bracket at the back from any available material, so that during a sudden movement towards the wall, the system unit does not drive the protruding plugs into its ass with all its might.
2. The mess with cables needs to be resolved immediately and radically. Above the tabletop, you can use cheap ties, but they still collect dust; it’s better to come up with something with a cut of a box or pipe along the far edge of the tabletop. Below the table top, the horizontal is determined by U-shaped corners on back wall(the cables are again tied together, preferably in separate bundles for their intended purpose), vertical plastic ties as a completely temporary option, optimally ties made from pieces of Velcro sewn or glued to rigid tape. One edge of the tape can be screwed to the side wall, or you can hang these rings with a cable on the nearest U-corner.
Electricity needs to be solved by two pilots with maximum number places (there are never too many of them, 6+7 is not enough for me). We go from the outlet to the first pilot (you can even extend it), which we hang on the side wall, between the table top and the system unit, closer to us. Be sure to leave 2-3 free cells, in the rest we plug in something that can be easily switched off, such as charging and lighting, and most importantly, a co-pilot, good quality and with good protection (normal filter). It can be hung on the same wall, but further away, we turn on the power supply for the solar system, monitors, printer, whatever else is rarely pulled out. You can also use a router, but ideally it should be plugged into a separate outlet so that you can turn off the entire table and the router will still work. And it doesn’t belong on a system unit, it’s better to live on the top shelf, all you need to do is change the standard meter short one from the kit for a longer cable. If you catch an installer carrying the Internet to neighbors or friends, it won’t cost a penny, a sincere “thank you” is enough.

To make a small plywood table with your own hands, drawings are not required, but a template will be very useful. The table, which is described below, is attached to the wall.

Rummage through your bins and see if you have:

a piece of plywood for the tabletop;
a small but whole sheet of plywood or thick cardboard - it is needed for the template;
carpentry or other moisture-resistant glue;
jigsaw;
a circular saw;
pencil;
vice;
sanding machine (you can just use sandpaper, but it will take more time);
fasteners;
remnants of wallpaper, a sheet of Whatman paper or graph paper;
long ruler;
varnish, wax or oil.

Assembling the legs and preparing the parts

We start making the table with a sketch:

Think about the shape of the tabletop - it can be rectangular, square, round, oval, with a recess, or even a weird shape.
Think about the shape of the legs - you can make them straight or curved.
Draw it all on a piece of paper.
Estimate the dimensions. The table is small, so the main parameter you should focus on is the size of the plywood sheet, unless, of course, you plan to make a stacked tabletop from pieces.
Draw full size legs on a large sheet of paper.
Transfer the drawing onto thick cardboard.
Cut out the legs according to the template - if the shape is complex, you can use a regular one rather than an electric one manual jigsaw.
If the plywood is not thick enough, make the legs two-layer.
Glue the layers together.
Remove excess glue and let the pieces dry.
Place the legs on a flat surface.
Align them according to the template.

Important! The model that is attached to the wall has only two legs.

Tabletop

If the countertop is simple and made from one piece, there is no problem. It's simply cut out. It's a different matter if you only have pieces of plywood or if you want to make a typesetting drawing from different types wood In this case, the fragments are cut at an angle so that they can be formed into a flat surface and the seams are not noticeable. First you need to glue the pieces into a single whole, and only then cut the tabletop according to the template. After the blanks appear, do the following:

We sand the surfaces of the legs and table top - we get rid of splinters, sharp corners and so on.
On the underside of the tabletop we mark places for screws.
We screw the legs using furniture corners.
We mark a straight line on the wall for fastening.
We fix the table on the corners or on a metal profile.

Important! The corners need to be attached from below under the tabletop so that they are not visible from the outside.

Which plywood to choose?

You don’t have to attach your own plywood table to the wall. You can make a very ordinary table, with one or four legs. And its size can be much larger. But in such cases you can’t get away with leftover materials; plywood must be chosen specifically, and the question arises, which one.

Important! Plywood is a glued veneer, and the number of layers is always odd, and most often divided by 3.

This material has many advantages, and the main ones are strength and abrasion resistance. They are determined by the location of the fibers. For the manufacture of plywood the following are used:

birch;
coniferous trees.

Important! There are also types when the veneer is made from birch, and the inner layers are made from coniferous trees. These are fairly cheap varieties. There is also material made entirely from deciduous trees, but it costs more.

The brand designates such qualities of plywood as:

moisture resistance;
application area.

FC means that urea resin glue was used, this grade is used for furniture and interior works indoors.
For outdoor work, FSF is used - it is a moisture-resistant material, but it contains formaldehyde; this option is not suitable for furniture.
Melamine resins are used for FKM plywood, which makes it possible to use the material for all types of work.
FBA means that plywood is not resistant to moisture; it can be used for living room furniture, but it is not suitable for kitchens and bathrooms.
An excellent option is FOF. Plywood covered protective film. It is expensive, but high quality, and the film can be colored.

Variety

This indicator is determined by the appearance of the surface. It is designated by the letter E - this top quality. This is followed by reduction factors, they are designated by Roman numerals from I to IV or ordinary Arabic. In this case, the same sheet can be of two grades - separately for the face and the back.

Grinding

Unpolished material is designated as NS. There may be other options:

Ш1 – one side is polished;
Ш2 – the sheet is sanded on both sides.

Important! On some sheets you can see the letter F with different indices - this is how the amount of formaldehyde is indicated.

Some basic principles of working with plywood

Before you make a table from plywood with your own hands, as well as any other furniture, try to master the main principles of working with this material. This applies to tools. It is better to use a jigsaw, and for some particularly delicate work, a hand jigsaw. Any of them allows you to make high-quality cuts, and not necessarily straight ones. Sawing with a jigsaw is a separate genre; a manual jigsaw allows you to cut fancy lines that require high precision, and an electric jigsaw speeds up the process where ultra-precision is not needed.

Important! Pay attention to the files. The smaller their teeth, the more accurate the cut will be.

Fasteners

Do-it-yourself plywood table, as well as a cabinet, stool or hanging shelves, you only need to fasten with special screws. They are designed to be attached wooden parts and they hold up perfectly even in chipboard, not to mention plywood and solid wood.

To work with self-tapping screws, you will need a drill - manual or electric, and a set of drills.

Important! A hole is made in advance for the screws, and it should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the fastener - about 2 mm.

Place the tabletop blank face down.
Find the center (this must be done very precisely).

On these diameters, drill holes for the legs, retreating 5-10 cm from the edge.
Glue the legs or secure with corners.

DIY children's table made of plywood

You will need:

a piece of thick plywood for the tabletop (can be glued together from several sheets);

Screw the legs in the corners so that their upper parts are inside the frame.
The tabletop can be glued or secured with self-tapping screws.
Be sure to chamfer the corners.
Cover the tabletop with edge tape.
The legs can be connected with crossbars at the bottom for greater stability of the entire structure.
