From forks of the “Tornado” type

It has the simplest design, somewhat reminiscent of a corkscrew. Consists of a vertical stand and a horizontal handle. You can safely make such a cultivator yourself using a regular pitchfork.

To do this, you will need a plastic attachment, which is usually used for forks, shovels, in the shape of a handle. We slightly modify the nozzle so that the handle looks like a horizontal pipe. Take a part as it plastic pipe size 0.5 m.

Please note: In order for everything to fit together, the diameter of the pipe should be slightly larger than the diameter of the nozzle.

  1. A cut is made along the pipe so that when turned out, it fits onto the handle.
  2. For reliable coupling in the future practical application, secure everything with electrical tape.
  3. All that remains is to twist the forks into a corkscrew shape. To do this, bend the teeth in the desired direction with a hammer.

Bicycle based

In order to make a homemade cultivator from available materials, you will need old frame from the bike and one wheel.

Assembly method:

  1. The cultivator head is attached to the frame, which is either ready-made spare parts from an old machine, or made independently from steel rods. A small plow is suitable for the frame. And for ease of control, the handle is made of steel pipe.
  2. The crossbar is made from a pipe with a diameter of 2-3 cm.
  3. The entire structure is secured with bolts; nothing should be loose.
  4. For convenience, take a medium-sized wheel and secure it with locknuts.
  5. This type of cultivator is designed for weeding the soil between the beds.

Disc rotary

This type is designed for breaking up hard pieces and leveling the soil. The main working element is a disk in the shape of a sphere. The whole difficulty lies in their manufacture.

The work order is as follows:

  1. Spherical plates 4 mm thick are made of metal. The bowls are knocked out with a hammer in the center of the plate itself.
  2. Discs are welded to the bushings, replacing them on the axles.
  3. The edge of the axle is secured with special cotter pins in brackets.
  4. The ledge is made in a bracket that is larger in size; a pipe and a handle are passed through it.
  5. In a smaller bracket, a rod with a diameter of 25 mm and a length of 26 cm is made. A rod 15 mm thick is also screwed into it.
  6. The convex corners of the cultivator are fixed using wing nuts.
  7. Due to the rotation of the convex angles, the large bracket bends, the rod rises, and the angle of the elements changes.

Chainsaw cultivator

It is made on the basis of a chainsaw engine. It’s good if you have all the components; if not, you need to buy more.
Materials you will need:

  • metal corner;
  • fuel tank;
  • tube;
  • rubber wheels;
  • sprocket for the intermediate shaft (41 teeth);
  • moped sprocket.

First you need to weld a cube frame using metal corners for a walk-behind tractor. The frame size is 32 by 32 cm, the engine is mounted on top of the transverse corners, and the fuel tank is installed on the bottom on brackets. Then the intermediate shaft is mounted on the corner vertical stands. For the running shaft, bearings are attached to longitudinal angles. From all this comes a walk-behind tractor resting on the surface of the wheel.

For handles, pipes with a diameter of approximately 30 mm are used. Good wheels will come out of rubberized ones. Here you will need a sprocket for the intermediate shaft with 41 teeth and a main sprocket (a moped sprocket will do). All that remains is to assemble all the parts into one mechanism, and you will get a garden cultivator from a chainsaw (by the way, you can read how to choose a chainsaw).

This can be done even without drawings. In addition, the cultivator is not very demanding on materials for refilling, unlike purchased models.

Cultivators significantly facilitate land work, help to properly cultivate the land before planting, fight weeds, and are simply irreplaceable for large areas. And if you don’t have the funds to buy these expensive machines, then you can easily make them yourself.

Hoes, hoes and shovels have long since sunk into oblivion. Now most summer residents prefer to cultivate their plots mechanically. For this purpose, special units are used - cultivators.

This type of equipment is capable of performing many different functions. For example: pre-treatment lands, caring for agricultural crops, improving lawns and lawns, cleaning the local area.

The versatility of the equipment depends on the equipment used, and this costs money. If you just want to cultivate the land, then there is no need to overpay for additional functions.

It is much easier to make a homemade manual cultivator; fortunately, there is nothing complicated in the design of the unit. We will present several assembly options so that you can choose the one that suits you.

Simple solution

Commercially available cultivators are divided according to their operating principle. The most simple design for the Tornado model. They are inexpensive, but you can avoid even such minimal expenses.

To reproduce this model at home, you will need an old pitchfork and a shovel handle.

  1. The forks need to be placed on the handle and the structure is almost ready, now you need to turn it into a cultivator.
  2. To simplify the work process, you will need a cross handle. The fact is that soil cultivation is a rather labor-intensive process that requires significant physical effort.
  3. The cross handle will help reduce physical activity. To do this you will need a piece of plastic pipe about 50 centimeters long. The part is cut lengthwise and placed on top of the handle. To ensure that the handle sits firmly, additional fixation makes sense.
  4. Now you need to give the fork teeth the desired shape. On the original model, this element has the shape of a spiral or corkscrew. This ensures optimal loosening of the soil. You can give it the desired shape using a hammer.

Don't be too zealous; forks are usually made of hardened steel, so the teeth may burst from a strong impact.

Having completed the manufacturing process, you will receive a convenient cultivator that is suitable for work in a greenhouse or on a small plot. If you are the happy owner of a large personal plot, this option will not suit you, so let’s move on to the next model.

Using an old bike

Of course, you won’t need the whole bike; one wheel and frame will be enough to make it.

  1. The bicycle frame is connected to the wheel using special bolts. This will be the chassis.
  2. A cutting element is attached to the bottom of the frame to loosen the soil. Here you can use ordinary pitchforks, as in the previous case.
  3. If you attach the cultivator head to the frame (you can borrow it from an old unit or purchase it in a store), it becomes possible to install a plow on the homemade product.
  4. To mount the control handles on the cultivator, you will need two pieces aluminum pipe. This element can be replaced with wooden slats, but the option with aluminum tubes will be more reliable. The tubes are attached to the frame by welding or threaded connections.
  5. To give the structure additional strength, we recommend installing a stiffening rib between the handles. Suitable for this metal profile or a corner that is bolted between the handles.

As a result, you will get a cultivator with a working surface width of about 20 centimeters.

This option is suitable for processing medium-sized areas. Considering, light weight products, virgin soil cultivation will cause a number of inconveniences.

High performance

For processing large areas the best option will use a rotary cultivator. You can also design it yourself. You will get a homemade cultivator for inter-row cultivation, soil leveling, harrowing and cultivation.

Making such a device requires certain skills, but is not very difficult. This is what the assembly diagram looks like:

  • Metal discs are used as working elements, which are welded to the bushings. The number of discs depends on the width of the land cultivation.
  • The disks are mounted on a metal axle, the ends of which must be bracketed and secured with cotter pins.
  • Staples must be used different diameters. A groove is made in the large bracket, which serves as a holder for the control handle. A metal rod is welded to the smaller bracket.

The main difficulty is giving the desired shape to the disc cutters. Using a hammer, they need to be cupped. To change the angle of soil penetration, special wings are used.
