Main news

Many years ago, in a province in the south of France, a light, transparent fabric was created and named after this province. It immediately found its application among the most fashionable girls of that village who began to decorate their dresses and hats with it. And some used this material to cover windows, which remains relevant today.

Nowadays it is impossible to imagine a bedroom without curtains. And designers never tire of surprising us with a variety of fabrics, shapes and colors. Drapery

We create masterpieces from simple transparent or translucent fabric.

  • The use of tiebacks, tapes, and magnets to create large horizontal folds.
  • If the fabric is assembled into the shape of a bow or other unusual designs, they are secured with a stitch on top of the fabric.
  • Airy lambrequins can be made from the same fabric as the main curtains. They will create the effect of gentle clouds for the relaxation room.
  • Collecting tulle onto a ribbon. It is necessary to stitch a special tape onto the canvas and then, with a slight movement of the hand, collect it - you get uniform small folds.
  • Using thread or tape along the curtain. Gathers the fabric into a tail shape. You should not make this option too long - they usually use short tulle to the windowsill.

Attaching tulle to eyelets

These are the most used and practical tulle mounts. They come in plastic, wood or metal. The fabric is attached to such rings with the same spacing; the larger the gap between the rings, the deeper the fold will be.

Eyelets are suitable for both light, airy fabrics and denser and heavy materials. They move freely along the cornice with the movement of one hand.

This mounting option will suit you if the bedroom is decorated in a modern style or you need to slightly modernize the good old classics.

The choice of tulle is one of last stages room decoration. This type of drapery is valued for its practicality, lightness and versatility - it fits harmoniously into the interior of any room. It can be used either on its own or in combination with other curtains - curtains, curtains, drapes, etc. How to choose the right tulle and can it be replaced with other decorative elements?

What is tulle, what fabrics is it made from?

Window tulle is a thin translucent fabric made from silk, wool, linen, cotton and synthetic threads. Tulle is sewn from materials such as:

Organza
  • Organza. The most popular fabric, valued for its good light transmission, shine, high wear resistance and ease of care. The main thing is not to wash it at high speeds so that creases do not form. The material may have a matte or iridescent (if a metal thread is used) surface. There are many varieties of organza: plain, chameleon and rainbow, with decorative elements, sputtering, embroidery, etc.

Veil
  • Veil. Airy matte fabric that folds easily and falls beautifully along the window opening. Mainly used in classic or romantic style. Requires careful care, otherwise it turns yellow. It cannot be washed in a machine at high speed - only by hand or in a delicate cycle, and it is also unacceptable to bleach with chemicals.
  • Fatin. Depending on the degree of rigidity, there are hard, medium-hard and soft mesh. This lush lightweight material It looks good only when assembled in numerous folds, so it is not suitable for decorating small narrow windows. Tulle is a fairly wear-resistant fabric, but it is better not to decorate a nursery with it, windows with a balcony door and other window openings where it will be touched frequently.

Chiffon
  • Chiffon. It is a thin matte fabric with a fine-grained surface. It is made from both natural and synthetic fibers. For decoration, the material is supplemented with embroidery, printing, embossing, etc. Chiffon should be washed by hand or on a delicate cycle, ironed slightly damp, from the inside out, at a temperature of 100–150 degrees.

Batiste
  • Batiste. One of the softest and lightest materials. The advantages of the fabric also include environmental friendliness and the ability to dim sunlight, which makes it an ideal material for decorating a bedroom and children's room. The cost of fabric depends on the raw materials used: the most expensive is made from cotton and linen, a little cheaper is a combination of natural and synthetic fibers.

How to beautifully decorate a window with tulle without curtains?

Using tulle without curtains is an excellent option for a room whose windows face north. Curtains without curtains and heavy lambrequins are chosen by housewives who do not like the complex care of home textiles or do not have the time for this.

To diversify the interior, decorative elements are used - from bugles and beads to cords and ribbons for picking up double tulle. How to beautifully decorate a room using tulle?

Lush and airy tulle

Gradient tulle

Lush tulle is relevant for an interior in the Rococo or Baroque style, for example, as well as with an abundance of other decorative elements, in order to highlight them and not overload the room. Double tulle is a great option for a living room with a balcony door in the middle or large French windows. To make the tulle look light and airy, its width should be at least twice the length of the cornice. There are several ways to drape tulle:

  • one-sided - folds are directed in one direction;
  • counter - folding the canvas from the edges towards the center;
  • bow drapery - laying one-sided folds in different directions.

Light muslin

Thread curtains

Kisei is a name given to long, freely hanging threads that are not tied together. It is also known as a rope curtain (see photo). This type of curtain is used without any additional elements. Most often, muslin is hung in the kitchen, but it is often chosen for youth-style rooms, as well as as a partition, for example, in a studio apartment. These curtains are prized for their bright decorative effect, achieved through the use of beads, stones, glass beads, shiny threads, etc.

Kisey allows the sun's rays to pass through well, providing a play of light; heavy curtain rods are not needed to attach it. Another plus is ease of care: you just need to tie the threads with a few loose knots before washing.

Combining two or more colors

There are two ways to combine colors in tulle: by combining shades of the same color or contrasting tones. In the first case, it is allowed to combine 3 or more shades and use decorative elements - ribbons, braids, bows, etc. In the second case, it is best to use only two colors. If the combination of several varieties of the same color allows you to observe a harmonious play of shades, then the combination of more than 2 contrasting tones looks pretentious and hurts the eye. Popular color combinations:

  • white with beige and cream is one of the rare harmonious combinations of cold shades with warm ones;
  • white with turquoise;
  • various combinations yellow color with green, blue or gray;
  • combination of shades of green - from light green to acidic;
  • dark shades of red with cream tones.

For the mood: tulle rain

Tulle rain

Rain tulle is a type of curtain in which thick threads are woven into a thin fabric (see photo). The lines can be denser on one side and thinner on the other, which makes the structure of the canvas even more reminiscent of rain. There are single-color and multi-colored types of tulle, including those with a gradient. Tulle rain looks good in a children's room and rooms with a laconic finish, for example with laminate flooring and walls painted in neutral, soothing colors.

How to decorate a narrow window?

When decorating narrow windows, it is better to avoid heavy structures - lush lambrequins, heavy curtains, ruffles, voluminous folds and wide cornices that “cut” the window. The material should be dense, but not hard, it should flow and brighten up the narrowness of the window opening. Decor for narrow windows is chosen taking into account the following rules:

  • using a minimal amount of material - lush double tulle is best left for rooms with large windows;
  • decorating a high window with colored contrasting tulle or material with horizontal patterns;
  • the use of small one-sided lambrequins with tulle to hide the large distance between the window and the ceiling;
  • the use of light curtains, which are secured on one side with ribbons or braid;
  • the use of Austrian curtains with scalloped folds made of airy but dense material (especially important for kitchens).

Curtains " hourglass»

Decorating tall narrow windows in french style, it’s worth taking a closer look at the hourglass curtains (see photo). In this case, the material is fixed on the bottom and top sides of the window using fishing line, thread or Velcro so that tension is created in the fabric, and tied in the middle with tape or braid. It is best to give preference to colored plain materials, since white tulle can give the room a resemblance to a hospital.

How to save on curtains: tulle on glass

This technique involves gluing tulle onto glass. Thanks to this method, you can forget about caring for curtains for a long time. Suitable for decorating verandas, bathrooms and kitchens. If necessary, the fabric can be easily removed from the glass surface using hot water and sponges. To decorate a window, you need to prepare fabric, tape measure, scissors, gloves, a brush and potato starch paste to make it as white as possible.

During operation, the window must be closed, because the tulle will fall due to the draft. Procedure:

  1. clean glass detergent with alcohol;
  2. measure the length and width of the glass;
  3. cut the fabric according to these dimensions, adding 1 cm on each side;
  4. Then you can proceed in 2 ways: apply the paste to the glass and fix the fabric or glue the material already soaked in the adhesive solution;
  5. straighten the cloth on the glass to prevent the formation of bubbles;
  6. remove remaining paste from the edges of the window.

How to do without curtains and tulle at all?

The use of curtains in some cases is impractical - in a minimalist style or in a room with large French windows. What can replace tulle? Traditionally, instead of fabric curtains, blinds and roller shutters are used.

You can diversify the interior by ordering a canvas with a reproduction of a famous painting or with another interesting image. Original analogue curtains are expensive stained glass and more affordable stickers and frosted glass– it is not necessary to change the glass unit; you can apply a special coating to it.
