Czech-made Viadrus floor-standing boilers operate on solid fuel and therefore have a fairly wide range of applications; they are completely autonomous. Their feature is also their unpretentiousness to operating conditions, in particular, they are ideal for Russian heating systems, both for newly installed and old ones. Due to its technical features, quality of equipment Viadrus boilers became known and popular back in Soviet times.
Model Viadrus U22 C is a universal low-pressure cast iron heating boiler with a sectional design of the device. It is designed for burning all types of solid fuels, including coal, coke, firewood, and peat briquettes. The manufacturer specifically notes that the combustion of other materials is not provided for in this boiler model.
The Viadrus U22 C boiler range consists of nine items, which differ in the number of sections and, accordingly, power. Design features of the VIADRUS U 22 C boiler
- The boiler is assembled from cast iron sections, fastened to nipples and anchor bolts with crimping of the mating points. The boiler firebox, water jacket and convection chamber are formed by the sections, or rather by the perforation in them.
- The front section is equipped with doors for the fuel loading chamber and ash pan. Moreover, in the lower damper (door) there are standard fasteners for mounting a pressure burner operating on gas or liquid fuel.
- Bends for wiring the heating system and a chimney pipe are pressed into the rear section. The pressure pipe of the jacket is mounted closer to the boiler lid, and the return outlet is almost at the very bottom.
- The total number of sections in the middle part of the boiler ranges from 2-4 to 8-10 pieces. Moreover, the boiler furnace is formed by these sections.

- The boiler combustion chamber (furnace) is additionally equipped with special dividing partitions that cut the flow of gaseous combustion products and return part of the “exhaust gases” back. Such a scheme speeds up the process of heating the coolant in the boiler jacket. Moreover, such partitions are built only into the rear sections of the middle part of the boiler. The front sections forming the firebox are devoid of such partitions, which facilitates the process of loading fuel.
- The combustion process is regulated using a throttle valve in the chimney pipe and a supply valve in the ash pan door, the throughput of which is regulated by a thermostat.
- There are pipes cut into the boiler lid for mounting a thermometer, thermostat or a single unit - a thermomonometer.
- A hatch for cleaning the channel that removes combustion gases is built into the chimney pipe.
- On the outside, the cast iron sections are covered with fire-resistant insulation - mineral wool. The sections and insulation are packed in a steel casing coated with heat-resistant paint.

The hero of our review today is the Czech solid fuel boiler “Viadrus” U22 C/D. We will talk in detail about its advantages and disadvantages, provide the main technical characteristics and some tips for installation and maintenance. Also, owners of country houses will share their experience of using Viadrus boilers.
The Czech Republic supplies quite a lot of heating devices to the Russian market. We have already talked about some models in our previous reviews. Today we will take a closer look at the Viadrus U22 C/D heating boiler.
Features of the model and its main characteristics
“Viadrus” U22 C/D is a heating boiler that is capable of operating on various types of solid fuels such as coal, firewood, fuel briquettes, pellets. The differences between models with indexes C and D are that the model with index D has a wider opening of the loading chamber door, which allows the use of thicker logs when burning wood.

The basis of the design is a cast iron sectional heat exchanger. In addition to the front and rear sections, solid fuel boilers of various sizes have several internal sections. The more there are, the greater the power of the model. A total of 9 standard sizes of the C series and 7 standard sizes of the D series are produced.
The heat exchanger sections connected to each other form a single volume filled with coolant. The internal space serves as a firebox and ash pan chamber. The rear section is equipped with a chimney outlet and has a supply line pipe in the upper part and a return line pipe in the lower part. The doors of the loading chamber and ash pan are mounted on the front section. Depending on the size of the Viadrus heating boiler, some internal sections may have a different design from others to increase fuel combustion efficiency.

There are also two channels for supplying air to the boiler. The first is the flap on the ash pan door. The amount of its opening, and therefore the volume of air supplied to the combustion chamber from under the grate, is regulated either by an automatic draft regulator or manually using a screw. There is also a hole on the door of the loading chamber for supplying air directly into the boiler firebox. The amount of its opening is adjusted manually.
To visually monitor the temperature and pressure of the coolant in the heating system, a thermomanometer is located on the top cover of the water heating boiler. Its sensor is immersed in the rear section, and the device itself is located in the control box.
