Prayer to the Honest and Life-Giving Cross

When reading the Prayer to the Honest and Life-Giving Cross, they mark themselves with a cross.

“May God rise again, and His enemies will be scattered, and those who hate Him will flee from His presence. As smoke disappears, let them disappear; as wax melts before the face of fire, so may demons perish from the presence of those who love God and signify themselves with the sign of the cross, and who say in joy: Rejoice , Most Honorable and Life-giving Cross Lord, drive away the demons with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, who descended into hell and trampled upon the power of the devil, and gave us to you, His Honest Cross, to drive out every adversary. O Most Honest and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord! Help me with the Holy Virgin Mary and with all the saints forever. Amen.

Weaken, forgive, forgive, O God, our sins, voluntary and involuntary, even in word and in deed, even in knowledge and in ignorance, even in days and nights, even in mind and in thought: forgive us everything, for it is good and Lover of Humanity.

Forgive those who hate and offend us, Lord Lover of Humanity. Do good to those who do good. Grant to our brothers and relatives the same petitions for salvation and eternal life. Visit those who are out of power and grant healing. Manage the sea as well. For travelers, travel. Grant forgiveness of sins to those who serve and forgive us. Have mercy on those who have commanded us unworthy to pray for them according to Your great mercy. Remember, Lord, our father and brethren who have fallen before us, and give them rest, where the light of Thy face shines. Remember, Lord, our captive brethren and deliver me from every situation. Remember, Lord, those who bear fruit and do good in Your holy churches, and give them petitions for salvation and eternal life. Remember, Lord, us, humble and sinful and unworthy Thy servants, and enlighten our minds with the light of Thy mind, and guide us on the path of Thy commandments, through the prayers of our Most Pure Lady Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary and all Thy saints: for blessed art thou unto the ages centuries. Amen".

Prayer to the Honest and Life-Giving Cross briefly:

The Cross of Christ is called Honest because it is honored as a great shrine, an instrument of our salvation (they pray before it, they honor it with bows, the use of the sign of the cross in prayers and sacred rites, etc.)

The Cross of Christ is called life-giving because it gives life to those who through baptism have partaken of the fruits of the Sacrifice of the Cross, and because by the death of the cross Christ defeated bodily death, laying the foundation for the general resurrection: Christ rose from the dead, the firstborn of the dead(1 Cor. 15:20).

Life-giving cross of the Lord prayer

May God rise again, and may His enemies be scattered, and may those who hate Him flee from His presence. As smoke disappears, let them disappear; as wax melts in the face of fire, so let demons perish from the presence of those who love God and signify the sign of the cross, and who say in joy: Rejoice, Most Honorable and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, drive away the demons by force on you of our Lord Jesus Christ, who descended into hell and straightened the power the devil, and who gave us His Honest Cross to drive away every adversary. O Most Honest and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord! Help me with the Holy Virgin Mary and with all the saints forever. Amen.

Will be squandered- they will scatter, run away. Besi- demons, devils. famous- overshadowing, imposing a sign on oneself. Verbal- speaker. Most Honorable- venerable. Corrected- victorious, prevailing. Damned- crucified. adversary- adversary, enemy. life-giving- life-giving, resurrecting.

In this prayer To the Honest Cross we express our faith that the sign of the cross is the most powerful means of driving away demons, and we ask the Lord for spiritual help through the power of the Holy Cross. The cross is called Life-giving because Jesus Christ, being crucified on the Cross, thereby delivered people from eternal death in hell and granted eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Words descended into hell and trampled upon the power of the devil mean that Jesus Christ after His death and before the Resurrection was in hell, from where He brought holy people (for example, Adam, Moses) into the Kingdom of Heaven and thereby showed that He trampled on, or destroyed, the power of the devil.

Translation: May God rise again, and may His enemies be scattered, and may all who hate Him flee from Him. As smoke disappears, so let them disappear; and as wax melts from the fire, so let the demons perish before those who love God and are marked by the sign of the cross and exclaim in joy: Rejoice, Most Honored and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, driving away demons by the power of our crucified Lord Jesus Christ on you, Who descended into hell and destroyed the power of the devil and gave us You, Your Honest Cross, to drive away every enemy. Oh, Most Revered and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, help me with the Holy Lady the Virgin Mary and with all the saints in all ages. Amen.

Protect me, Lord, by the power of Your Honest and Life-giving Cross, and save me from all evil.

Fence- garden, protect.

Translation: Protect me, Lord, by the power of Your Honest (Honorable) and Life-giving Cross, and save me from all evil.

This prayer should be said just before going to bed, after kissing the cross worn on the chest and protecting yourself and the bed with the sign of the cross.

Prayer to the Holy and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord:

God is our Refuge and Strength, our Helper in the sorrows that have come upon us greatly. For this reason let us not be afraid, for the earth is always troubled and the mountains are given into the hearts of the sea. They made noise and trembled their waters, they trembled the mountains with His strength. The river's aspirations rejoice the city of God: the Most High has sanctified His village. God is in his midst, and does not move: God will help him in the morning. The pagans are in turmoil, and you will stray from the kingdom: let your voice from the Most High be heard, and the earth will move. The Lord of hosts is with us, our Advocate is God Jacob. Come and see the works of God, who have placed miracles on the earth: taking away the battle to the end of the earth, the bow will crush and break the weapons, and the shields will be burned with fire. Be abolished and understand that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted to the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us, our Advocate is God Jacob.

Prayer to the Honest Cross

“Let God rise again, and let His enemies be scattered, and let those who hate Him flee from His presence. Drive away the demons by the power of our drunken Lord Jesus Christ, who descended into hell and trampled upon the power of the devil, and who gave us to you His Honest Cross to drive away every adversary.

O Most Honest and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord! Help me with the Holy Lady Virgin Mary

and with all the saints forever. Amen".

“Protect me, Lord, by the power of Your Honest and Life-giving Cross, and save me from all evil.”

In this prayer we express our belief that the sign of the cross is the most powerful means of driving away demons, and we ask the Lord for spiritual help through the power of the Holy Cross. The Cross is called Life-giving (life-giving, resurrecting), because Jesus Christ, being crucified on the Cross, thereby delivered people from eternal death in hell and granted eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven. The words “who descended into hell and trampled the power of the devil” mean that Jesus Christ after His death and before the Resurrection was in hell, from where He brought holy people (Adam, Moses) into the Kingdom of Heaven and thereby showed that He trampled, or destroyed, the power the devil.

Protect me, Lord, by the power of Your Honest and Life-giving Cross and save me from all evil. Lord, direct my path for good. Lord, bless all my comings and goings.

So in a deep cave on which a pagan temple stood, three crosses were discovered. But no one knew which of them caused the terrible torment of the Son of God. And suddenly the Savior himself gave the answer to this question, pointing to the healing effect of the structure. In order to find out the real Cross, the following was done:

  • it was brought to a seriously ill woman - and the disease instantly left her forever;
  • placed on the deceased - and after touching him, the deceased came to life.

After this, Queen Helena brought one part of the Cross to her son, and left the other in Jerusalem. For You are the Guardian of our souls and bodies, and we send glory to You, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

There are prayers that form a kind of spiritual shield around a Christian. It protects against attacks from invisible evil forces and protects the soul. One of them is the prayer “May God rise again” - what is its meaning, in what situations should it be read?

Prayer text "May God rise again"

May God rise again, and may His enemies be scattered, and may those who hate Him flee from His presence. Like the smoke disappears; let them disappear; as wax melts in the face of fire, so let demons perish from the presence of those who love God and signify the sign of the cross, and who say in joy: Rejoice, Most Honorable and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, drive away the demons by force on you of our Lord Jesus Christ, who descended into hell and straightened the power the devil, and who gave us His Honest Cross to drive away every adversary. O Most Honest and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord! Help me with the Holy Virgin Mary and with all the saints forever. Amen.

What's the point

The prayer books indicate that this text is an appeal to the Holy Cross. In fact, Orthodox Christians do not turn to wooden sticks; prayer is directed to God. The cross is simply a symbol of salvation, the embodiment of the divine plan to save people from eternal death. To protect and sanctify their body, believers use the sign of the cross. And you should protect your soul with the help of the text of the prayer “May God rise again.”

The prayer is short, so it must be learned by heart. But understanding the text may be difficult at first. Church Slavonic words are completely incomprehensible for those who are just beginning to become church members. What are we talking about here?

If you read the text in Russian, then all the questions will disappear by themselves. You can find parallel translations on many sites. So, here it is said that the Lord can scatter his enemies, put them to flight, and they will melt like smoke, melt like wax from an open fire. The beginning is taken from the Bible, from chapter 67 of the book of Psalms.

When to read

There are situations when a person fears for his life. For example, he walks down a dark alley at night, it becomes creepy. Or is on a dangerous journey. Then you should resort to prayer to the Holy Cross.

  • To ask for help, you must undergo the rite of baptism yourself.
  • Before pronouncing the text, you must cross yourself and bow after finishing.
  • You can read the prayer as many times as you like - at least 40 times. But one will be enough if you have strong faith.

The holy words “May God rise again and His enemies be scattered” will also help in those cases when the soul is heavy, bad thoughts and temptations overcome. They will remind you that our salvation was bought at a high price - Jesus Christ innocently took upon Himself the entire burden of human sins. This was very difficult, since the Son of God was sinless. Therefore, Christians today should not re-injure Christ by their bad behavior.

Listen to the prayer “May God rise again” 40 times in a row

The interpretation of the famous text was given by the holy fathers of the Orthodox Church. They say that referring to an inanimate object in this case is just a metaphor. This is often found in church books. Also in the Bible you can find examples when believers are called to worship holy objects - the temple, as the dwelling of God, the Ark of the Covenant, where He also invisibly dwells. Therefore, there is nothing of idolatry in prayer. You can turn to her as often as you like, maintaining pure faith in your soul.

Orthodox prayer appeal“May God rise ...” is also called the prayer to the Venerable Cross, Psalm 90. However, this does not mean that believers turn to a silent subject, like ancient pagan idolaters. To understand the meaning of this, it is worth looking into the depths of history.

Story

At the beginning of the 4th century, the Roman Emperor Constantine, for his services to Orthodox Church subsequently called Equal-to-the-Apostles (i.e. equal in importance to the apostles) and Great and canonized, set out to find the Cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified. His mother, Queen Helena (also awarded similar titles), went to Jerusalem with this mission.

One can imagine the difficulties that she encountered on her way to her goal - after all, three centuries have passed since those biblical events.

However, this noble goal was destined to come true. When the hope of finding the “honest tree” was almost lost, the queen met a decrepit Jew who showed where the Cross of the Lord could be hidden in a deep cave. A pagan sanctuary was erected on that site. Queen Helena ordered to destroy it and begin excavations.

Three crosses were discovered at the indicated location. As you know, two thieves were crucified along with the Lord Jesus. Which of the structures of the cross is the one you are looking for? The wise queen quickly found a way out: the Son of God himself will tell you the answer. A seriously ill woman was brought to all the crosses. Two of them had no effect. And the third woman rose up healed.

The same test was carried out with the body of a deceased city dweller: at the third cross he came to life. There could be no doubt: it was on this Cross that Jesus suffered torment, who during his lifetime healed the sick and infirm, resurrected the dead and continued to do this after His Resurrection.

Thus, the instrument of execution retained the powerful healing power of the Savior. And believers turn in prayer not to the cross in its literal sense, but to the Cross as a symbol of the Lord’s protection from evil forces.
